New XPS 8500 with GTX 660 1.5GB--system not regulating fan speed--HELP!

I tried asking Dell tech support and they didnt have a !@#!@# clue what I was talking about.

New XPS 8500 with GTX 660 1.5GB--system not regulating fan speed--HELP!

The money for the system was a major investment for me right now. I value anything that will extend life over quiet :). I can deal with a noisier fan while I'm gaming.

New XPS 8500 with GTX 660 1.5GB--system not regulating fan speed--HELP!

I'm getting NO performance problems with the card. It just seemed unusual for the temp to spike that much without the fan budging. Everything is running fine. I'll probably set a slightly more aggressive fan profile in Afterburner--after all the fan shouldn't be able to laze around all day...

New XPS 8500 with GTX 660 1.5GB--system not regulating fan speed--HELP!

So if you're saying that it's ok for the fan to stick to 28 percent when temp shoots up to 72C, it's ok for the card to cool down slowly after gaming, since the fan's at 28 percent (instead of a faster fan speed cooling it more).

New XPS 8500 with GTX 660 1.5GB--system not regulating fan speed--HELP!

ROFLMAO...I happen to like Hellgate London. Seriously though, you seriously think the fan speed is alright not budging from 28 percent when the thing hits 72C?

New XPS 8500 with GTX 660 1.5GB--system not regulating fan speed--HELP!

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but it's a brand-new system, and if the fan speed isn't acting as it should I want to bring it back...

New XPS 8500 with GTX 660 1.5GB--system not regulating fan speed--HELP!

I know I can do that, but the system should be doing SOMETHING with the fan speed when the temp is going to over 2.5 times the temperature at idle (26C vs 72C)

New XPS 8500 with GTX 660 1.5GB--system not regulating fan speed--HELP!

How do I change that? Restarted computer, hit F12, can't find anything in the BIOS about the video card favoring quiet over cool. If it's the video card's BIOS settings, how do I change that?

New XPS 8500 with GTX 660 1.5GB--system not regulating fan speed--HELP!

I just doublechecked it--played for a bit with HWinfo64 running in background. Temp went to a high of 71C, fan speed never budged. No increase in noise from the case, either, so I doubt it's a faulty monitor.

It was the video card fan--I'm using GPU-Z.

New XPS 8500 with GTX 660 1.5GB--system not regulating fan speed--HELP!

Have a brand new XPS 8500, i7-3770, 16GB RAM, 1.5GB GTX 660. Video card with 0% GPU load is idling between 26 and 28 degrees C. Was just playing about an hour of Hellgate London singleplayer, DX10 option, all settings maxed. The card temperature went from 26C to a high during my play of...

New system, weird video card fan issue, and question

I just figured...since the temp went all the way to 51C from 25C while playing Skyrim, that the automatic fan speed control might have kicked it even higher than 35 percent in order to bring the temperature down more. By the way, what is YAGNI? :)

New system, weird video card fan issue, and question

Just picked up a new Dell XPS 8500 yesterday. Having a weird video card issue (GTX 660 1.5GB). If it matters, the system specs are: i7-3770 16GB RAM 256GB SSD 2TB HD GTX 660 1.5GB My last system had an ATI 6750, and I got used to controlling my own fan speeds through profiles. If I...

Can the power supply in this system handle the drain?

Thank you, Torn--reading that review settled that discussion :). I'm sorely tempted to do that, it's still a good buy for that setup with two 660 Ti's, especially if I can bargain them down a touch at Microcenter...

Can the power supply in this system handle the drain?

Can the power supply in this system handle the drain?

I'm looking at this system from MicroCenter: http://www.microcenter.com/product/411149/G218_Desktop_Computer Yes, I know, I know I could put it together cheaper, but I tried it once and for me it's less agita to buy it off the shelf--it's worth the additional money. The question I have...

Micro Center Memorial Day desktop sales?

I know, I know I could do it cheaper, but I've tried to put my own system together before and I'm better off with buying a prebuilt--less agita for me.

Micro Center Memorial Day desktop sales?

Anyone heard anything about a Memorial Day/weekend sale on desktop PC's at Microcenter? I'm salivating over the HP h9-1215t but it's a touch outside the budget and I'm hoping for a sale. Hot deals forum is for posting deals, not asking about where they are. esquared Anandtech Forum...

ATI 6750--temps on some games--should I be concerned?

Gigabyte ATI 6750 OC 1GB, 6 GB Ram, 750GB HD, i7-920, 500W Coolermaster PSU. Since I got the card a few weeks ago, I've been idling at 39-43C, with temperatures going as high as 67C for a few games (with fan at 80 percent). Since then, however, I've installed a couple of games that are...

What is the fastest video card that can do this...

Just out of curiosity, what would the normal "minimal speed" for a video card fan be? 20, 30 pct?

Need some advice re video card fan speeds and temps

I'm running it at 30% right now for non-gaming and I have a profile for gaming with it set to 60%. The noise at 30 is negligible...at 60 it's pretty noisy, but I can live with it as long as 60 or 70 percent isn't going to damage the fan or card, which folks are saying it won't.

Need some advice re video card fan speeds and temps

Don't know which it is, I have a ATI 4850 that came straight from Dell with the system, hardware ID says it's a Sapphire Radeon HD4850 512MB. Don't know if that's single or dual-slot cooling.

Need some advice re video card fan speeds and temps

How often should I blow out the system with compressed air? I'm a newbie--don't feel comfortable taking over the cover and doing it myself, but I have a friend who could do it for me.

Need some advice re video card fan speeds and temps

Great--thanks. I didn't know if running the card's fan at 30 pct when not 3D gaming could damage the fan/card or reduce the life of the fan or card.

Need some advice re video card fan speeds and temps

Was wondering...was looking through Catalyst Control Center (have a Dell 435MT with a Radeon HD4850 512MB) and noticed the ATI Overdrive settings. I've always wondered if my fan on the video card wasn't running enough...when I'm at 0% GPU load (using GPU-Z) my GPU temp tends to be around 56-57...

Can someone please tell me the difference between these two systems?

On the 435...would I notice any appreciable difference in performance if I pulled out 3 of the 1GB sticks and went to a 3x2GB, 3x1GB (9GB total) system?

Can someone please tell me the difference between these two systems?

The specs listed are exactly the same for both. The only visible difference is they each come with different included software. Does anyone know what the hardware difference is between these two systems, if any? Dell XPS Studio 435...

Israel's role in the coming war.

We are infinitely better off if Israel stays out of this war. We are getting support...basing and logistical support...which would be MUCH more difficult to get from the Arab states in the area if Israel was involved. Besides, if Israel were to get involved, if you seem to suggest, every...

Is there any reason to NOT overclock a video card?

Hi. Probably a stupid question here :-), but like the title said, is there any reason NOT to do this? I've got a PowerSpec 8350, P4@1.6, 256MB PC133 ram, and a GeForce4 MX 420. Yes, I know the MX sucks, and the PC133 bottlenecks the system also. At the time, it was all I could afford in...
