    i5-2500K system worth a major/minor upgrade?

Thanks for talking me out of it. I think that's what I needed someone to say... If I do run across a decent upgrade in mobo I might go with that. But like you say, I don't feel any great rush to go out and buy something just for the sake of buying. So thanks!

    i5-2500K system worth a major/minor upgrade?

Hi there, I have a base system of a i5-2500K on a ASUS P8P67 LE board that I've been running for almost 4 years now. Other parts have been upgraded so for instance I have a GTX 970 4GB GPU which have taken my gaming to a whole other level. But I'm starting yo worry about my motherboard. It was...

    Low choppy noise TX650

Hi, I'm having an issue with the fan supplied with the Corsair TX650. On idle the PSU is completely quiet. But after a period of standard use (browsing, mailing, nothing power consuming) the fan revs up to a low rpm, presumably due to slightly increased heat. That noise is fine, it's very quiet...

Fractal Design Define R3 or Antec P183?

I prefer not to wait until the 550D comes out, in fact I'm on my way to pick up my R3 right now. I ruled out the P280 on account of it having a 30% higher price and from reading reviews that stated that the P183 is superior to its predecessor, hence the P280 being something of a let down...

Fractal Design Define R3 or Antec P183?

The R3 is supposed to include a fan controller, isn't it? But yes, if the included fans are too loud I might change them. In that case, the R3 over the P183 I take it?

Fractal Design Define R3 or Antec P183?

Hi, I'm looking to get a new case for my rig. I'm currently unhappy about my Antec Sonata II which gives off too much noise, sometimes to the extent I get a metallic rattle when one of the fans comes up to a high enough rpm. After looking at Silentpcreview I've narrowed it down to the...

P8P67 PRO bites the dust... did it take my CPU along for the ride?

Just wanted to echo your experience, I had the exact same symptoms and end result. One fried mobo and one dead CPU. Same brand and type of mobo and CPU by the way.

    P8P67 LE, no Q-fan control?

Really? I know from experience that both the standard P8P67 and the pro version can use voltage regulation to control 3-pin fans. Seems odd that the LE board wouldn't be able to do that. But then again, it is the lowest of the low in the product line so maybe you're right.

    P8P67 LE, no Q-fan control?

Hi, I'm using a Noctua NH-U9B SE2 (92 mm fan) to cool my i5-2500k on a P8P67 LE board. My problem is the Q-fan feature on this board does not seem to work, at least not with this particular CPU fan. Regardless of whether I set Q-fan control to "enabled" in the BIOS (yes, it detects the fan and...

    New built, no POST... Help?

I second what mfenn suggested. OP, I had the exact same experience as you with first a P8P67 and then a Pro board in that series. The difference being my rig worked for 2 weeks before displaying that behaviour. In my case, it was a dead CPU/mobo and on the second board a single bent socket pin.

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

Actually, I got the NH-U9B. It was the only Noctua fan the store had in stock and I didn't have the time or the patience to travel across town to another, bigger store in the same chain that carries all of the others. It's a compact fan solution (92 mm) but still very quiet. Just not as quiet as...

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

New cooler from Noctua with a much better back plate and mounting mechanism, not quite as quiet as the ninja 3 though. At least now everything works. Thanks for the encouragement mfenn. Hopefully this is all behind me now... And Skyrim runs well maxed out!

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

They do. I'll see what I can find. The guy at the repair shop said the bent pin was surely not caused by the cooler, but more likely that it was damaged to start with or when removing the plastic cover. I was careful when seating the cpu so I have a hard time seeing how I could've damaged the...

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

Quick update: I received the bad news from the shop. Both the CPU and mobo are dead. The mobo had one bent pin in the socket and the CPU is just completely dead. I'm now highly suspicious towards the mounting mechanism of the Scythe Ninja III. The back plate presses down on some components at...

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

I'm worried that the mounting mechanism for the Scythe Ninja III might have damaged something. Although how could it do that on two mobos? I made double, triple sure to be careful and followed the instructions for mounting to the letter. But still, the back plate presses down quite hard on some...

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

The rejoicing continues. I tested another brand new PSU and got the same result on a bare necessities start (mobo on cardboard box, cpu, ram, gpu and screen connected). I think that rules out the PSU as the root cause. CPU and mobo the only possible culprits as far as I can tell. Yes, the CPU...

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

I did, there are no bent pins as far as I can tell, and nothing else looks off. Will take the thing into a different shop tomorrow.

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

Yup, just came back here from testing the bare minimum. Same results. On the mobo there is also a CPU LED that is a constant red for me whenever I switch the system on. Not a very good sign I take it... Note: I took out the mobo and placed it on a piece of cardboard and tested it with just the...

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

Just an update: This is turning into a horror story. I turned in my new rig for testing, and the shop confirmed that the mobo was dead - just as I had suspected - but that all other parts were ok. So I got my dead mobo replaced and installed everything again. And here I am, with a computer...

ASUS P8P67 blown - any reason to upgrade?

Ok. Not too bothered about the extra features a Z68 board offers. But if the store offers me a good deal to make up for the faulty mobo (and that they initially messed up my order to boot) I will take it. Thanks for the feedback!

ASUS P8P67 blown - any reason to upgrade?

Thanks for the input. I'm looking at the P8P67 Pro as an upgrade. I've always been very happy with ASUS products. Well, apart from this latest piece of course. The P8P67 Pro is also generally better priced than their competitors' comparative products in the shop where I buy my hardware from...

ASUS P8P67 blown - any reason to upgrade?

See my sig for the rig I just built a little over two weeks ago. It died on me all of a sudden and it seems it was the mobo that somehow gave up. I only did a moderate overclock of 4.0 Ghz with CPU voltage at 1.225, CPU PLL at 1.8, memory at 1.5 and everything else on auto. I was stable, no...

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

Crap. This morning I had the best and quietest system I have ever built. Now I have a piece of junk that refuses to even post. I was happily watching video previews of this and that when all of a sudden my rig went completely dead. Tried to reboot, nothing. Disconnected the power chord...

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

Nevermind me, I'm an idiot. An idiot. I had connected the 3-pin fan header to the mobo AND the fourpin IDE power connector to the PSU. Brilliant piece of thinking there on my part. No wonder the Qfan settings didn't work... All set now and yes, the Qfan settings work as they should. Ok, you...

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

@lehtv: Well, I'm going by Realtemp to measure temps. Nevermind Tcase, I have no way of measuring that. Sorry for making you refer to that thread again. You had already pointed me in that direction previously. Laziness I guess. Anyway, I think I'll stay at 4 Ghz to keep my rig quiet. That...

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

I'm going to try 45 tonight. But I don't want to produce too much excessive heat. When I went from 3.3 Ghz to 4 my CPU load temp during Prime95 rose from around 53C to 64C (ambient temp around 24C). Does that sound normal, especially given that I should have a pretty good cooler? Granted...

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

You mean the line of SSD's that Corsair recalled? According to Corsair only the 120GB version of the Force 3 series with serial numbers starting with 1123 and below were affected. Mine starts with 1330-something. But yes, a lot of people seem to have had issues with the Force 3 series in...

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

Ok, that's good to know. I've managed to open and read dump files but can't make much sense of them other than the fact that it was csrss.exe that always crashed causing the BSOD. f4 was the base error code. Hopefully that issue won't return, but if it does I now know where to turn for help...

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

Ok, so I finally got myself a new rig! As you can see in the sig I also decided to get me a pretty little SSD for my OS and games. I ran into some serious BSOD-issues at first, with Windows dying randomly after about 30 or so minutes of use. But I think I managed to get stable after...

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

Ok then, since all the experts agree I guess I'm going with the TX650. By the way, that was the PSU I was going for originally... Since I'm eager to learn - why NOT pay extra for a gold-rated PSU?
  35. B

775 system: Upgrade or total refit?

Why not? The HX650 is just a bit too expensive for my tastes. And I don't need a modular PSU. I went for FSP after mfenn recommended that particular PSU. And it's gold rating is a big selling point. The TX-series is only bronze-certified. And when I start caring about how a component that...
