I built this computer about a year ago and it works great with one exception. If I leave the computer on overnight one of the four drives in my RAID 10 array will become unstable and crash. If I mark it as normal in the ASUS RAID setup and rebuild it everything works fine until I leave the...
I am building a new computer this week and will be using RAID for the first time. I need a little advice on how to set it up.
The motherboard I am using is an ASUS P7P55D-E-LX. I have four 1TB HDD's and one 2TB HDD.
I want to run the four 1TB's in a RAID 10 configuration and the 2TB as a...
I will probably be adding more HDD's in the near future. That is why I was thinking of the larger PSU. What would you recommend for this setup and the possibility of up to four more HDD's?
When I ran the Newegg.com PSU calculator it recommended a 574w PSU for that setup and a 672w PSU for the...
So, I had everything decided and ready to go for my build and the SB issues came up. I won't be able to put off getting my new computer until the repaired boards come out, so I have decided to go with a bit older technology and then worry about upgrading the motherboard and processor next year...
I appreciate the advice and as always the banter between people with differing opinions. In my situation the data corruption could cost me money and isn't an option. Also, time is money in business, so i think I will be going with the i7 instead of the i5. It sounds to me like the P55 option...
I will be using Lightroom 3 and CS5 primarily with some other add ons. I think I will go with the i7 then. I didn't know if there was something I was missing that would make the i5 better for some odd reason.
I have a NAS that I back everything up to, so that isn't a problem.
I am leaning toward an i7-870 right now, but I still don't know which motherboard to go with. It seems like the 870 is the bang for the buck processor now with the SB's out of the equation.
I would love to go with a SB 2600k, but it looks like Micro Center and Newegg have pulled the motherboards from their shelves. If I could find a good motherboard locally that supported it I would definitely buy one. I don't have a problem using a separate card for SATA.
I wouldn't be willing to...
I had decided on a SB build for my photo processing computer, but we all know the story on that one. I need to build a computer in the next two weeks and I am now looking for recommendations on a processor and motherboard.
I prefer ASUS, but will listen to other recommendations. I need it to...
The EA231WMi-BK isn't for editing, but rather to declutter the editing monitor by placing pallets and such on it. The editing monitor would be either the NEC PA271W or LCD2490W2-BK. That was a typo. The Spectraview package is a given.
I am about to build my first computer devoted to photo processing instead of gaming. I am going to be using two monitors and would like a little advice. The first monitor is going to be a NEC EA231WMI-BK. For my main monitor I am leaning toward either a NEC PA271W or EA231WMI-BK. Other than the...
After looking into it I may wait on the Cinema monitor. It would be nice to do my editing on it, but I think I will wait to see if any other cards come out that use the mini DVI connector, if it ever happens. Of course Apple says that is the new standard. I just don't see using a $300 adapter...
I will see if I can find it again. I saw it about two months ago, when I started my new PC research. The 6 Core was in my original equipment in the first post. That was what I had come up with through my prior research.
The Apple Cinema display was one of the reasons I was originally leaning...
That is the reason I decided to go with the Sandy Bridge processor instead of the 6 Core processor. Not to start arguments, but rather to take some advice. I don't see why you would argue with someone who took your advice.
I have not seen any benchmarks that were geared to photo processing. Most benchmarks did not show the 6 core being drastically faster than the fastest quad core processor, but lightroom and cs5 ran much faster on a six core.
I have the P8P67 Pro motherboard as you say is definately necessary...
If everyone seems happy with the Samsung drives I might as well try them. They will be for storage only, so the speed isn't as critical. I also might as well lower the wattage a bit. Here is the latest iteration.
1 - Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W...
I said it had been a while since I built a computer. Thanks for your input. I have changed a few things around. I have always liked WD and ASUS hardware, so here is what I am thinking. I am not really looking at a gaming machine, but I may play the occasional Civilization game or something along...
I figured I would update the first post and answer all of the questions in the board recommendations.
1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing. Photo editing, light gaming (Civilization and the sort), and basic office document work.
2. What YOUR...
