Just wondering, since I could do this on my sony, if I can adjust it so my battery parameters on my sony, if I can make it so my battery will not charge over 85% to save battery life. I have an hp laptop. Thanks
Instead of spending a lot more money for a new laptop, I thought I would just spend a couple bucks to upgrade my current notebook. I have this exact notebook:

Here is my current build and list of prices I bought them for. This computer works flawlessly and overclocked like a DREAM. No compatibility issues:
1. Intel i5 750 w/ Gigabyte UD3 motherboard- $225
2. Kingston DDR3 1600 4gb- $115
3. WD 640gb Black Series - $50
4. OCZ ModXstream 600w- $35 AR

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have an antec 900 case so I don't think cooling will be an issue. I guess I'll give that little thing a try for 3 bucks and see how it does!
But does anyone have any recommendations for aftermarket cooling?
Yes that is my card. Didn't really pay much attention to it when installing. What's my best option to quite the thing down? New cooling solution? Accelero S1?
Can't really figure this out. Every program I have tried to use is reading the fan speed on the card as zero when it is in actuality turning just fine. Using windows 7 64 bit and the newest ATI drivers. The fan is just stuck running full speed which is annoying and want to be able to adjust it...
I would say the issue lies in your psu or the motherboard itself. I don't have any fluctuation in voltages under load. I would suggest using the f5c bios I have since I know 100% that it works. Have you tried a lower oc.....does it still drop the volts that low?
Using the F5c bios....I can send it to you if you want. My vtt is set at 1.19 in the bios. Definitely try to reflash because I had to do so twice to get mine to work well.
Turn LLC on and use the 21 multiplier! 21 x 191. Set your vcore to 1.4 in the bios and you should be good to go. Also, try prime 95 as well. Post back with what you find out
Just off the top of my head, here is what I have:
Turbo: enabled
C3/C6/C7: auto
C1E: enabled
V-droop correction: auto (or enabled)
QPI multi: 32x
CPU multiplier: 20x
BLK: 176
Cpu voltage: 1.161
Memory Multiplier: 8x
PCI-express frequency: 100
Ram voltage: 1.62
Memory Timings: 8-8-8-20
Vtt...
Wow sounds like you got a nice little chip there. What kind of cooling do you have for those kind of temps?!?! Do you think you are gonna do the coveted run of prime95 for 24hrs? My last run before I was able to do the full 24 hrs failed at 23 hours and 22 minutes....LOL....kinda pissed me off...
What kind of volts are you working with right now?!? 3.8 + turbo needed 1.28 v in the bios which I thought was too much for the hot weather southern cali!
Awesome! Post back with your final OC and voltages. How are you going be testing for stability? Make sure you disable c3/c6/c7 states or else you will be at like 4.8ghz on 2 cores!!
I had the same thing happen. Go to gigabyte's website and update your bios to the most recent (I think it's F5c beta). I flashed with Gigabyte's @bios without any trouble. Let me know if that works or else I'll post all my settings!
Finally figured out how to get the 24x multi. I had c3/c6/c7 state set to auto. Once I set it to enabled, I could not boot into windows @ 1.15v. Had to put my vcore at 1.25 to boot into windows at 4.2+ ghz under 2 core load. Tested 2 cores with prime and the temps only got to mid 40's after 5...
Did some more testing and finally decided to leave it at 21 x 176 for 3.7 @ 1.15v under load. This passed 150 loops of LinX with a high temp of about 50! I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the 24x multi or how some people are getting the vcore to go down during idle!
So 4.0 as in 200 x 20? Or are you talking about 190 x 21 w/ turbo? But good luck on getting it stable with all the features on! Definitely the most finicky oc i've done!
Kemmitch,
Let me know what your OC ends up being and at what volts! Still at 3.7 ghz @ 1.152v. Going any lower would error out LinX within an hour or so!
Thanks for the response. I look forward to hearing about what your OC ends up being as well! Just got finished test 100 loops of LinX @ 3.7 (175 x 21) with only 1.152v on CPU-z. Pretty sure I'll leave it at that for today but tomorrow I am going to try to tweak to get the voltage down a little...
Awesome reply! Thanks for all the info. So you are pretty much running the same overclock I have meaning 180 x 20? 3.6 + turbo which means ~3.8 when it kicks to the 21x multi. For some reason, I am getting ZERO v-droop according to cpu-z. When I say zero, I mean IT STAYS CONSTANT! Don't know...
LinX really does a good job of finding errors faster than prime. And I do not think I am over 95w....if you look at that review posted of the i5 750, i'd guess I was in the area of 75-85. Mrk6, I am assuming you did away with Turbo correct? What volts you running at?
Update- Tried running prime on just one core and the multiplier still is only 21x
Also, it is interesting that my vcore does not change under load AT ALL. Setting the bios to 1.175 yields 1.152 in windows and will not change at all. Bumping it up one notch to 1.1825 yields 1.168 in windows and...
Thank you for all the replies! Very helpful information! Very interesting article. I have yet to see the 24x multiplier though. How can I get cpu-z to see it and/or test it for stability at 3.6ghz (which should be ~ 4.3 ghz....yikes!). I don't have water cooling but have not seen the temps go...
Hello all,
Been out of the overclocking game for a while and finally got a new setup. Have the following components:
i5 750
gigabyte p55a-ud3
4gb dd3
750 gb seagate
ocz 600w modxstream
So far, the highest stable OC i've gotten with stock volts is 3.3 + turbo. I just finished a 24hr...
So reflashed it to my original bios w/ @bios. Still showed the 15x multi until I loaded optimal settings. I stupidly forgot to check the vcore but oh well. Flashed it back to f5c bios and it is prime stable at ~4.0 ghz at only 1.175 volts! Whatever it is I'll keep it this way since it is rock...
I may have been overclocked when I did the flash. I'm cruising right now at 3.8 + turbo thought at only 1.175 volts! But I am going to go back and reflash it. Thanks for the help!
Just build a new rig last night:
i5 750
Gigabyte p55a-ud3
4 gb ddr3
Seagate 750gb hd
ModxStream 600w psu
Win 7 pro
Originally had the F2 bios installed. It detected everything fine. Trying to find how much I can oc the thing on stock volts I ended up at 3.3 + turbo (1.15 volts). For...
Any idea where to get the latest bio from? Don't know if I want to risk flashing since it is 100% stable with the current bios. Also, how can I adjust my computer fan down so it is not running full blast all the time?
The Heatsink is seated properly....never gets above or below 98 in the bios. In windows, with realtemp, using prime 95, core 1/2 start at about 39 and only climb to 44 or so degrees celcius. Overclocked to only 3.6ghz for now and it is 100% stable.
