very casual question about GTX 1070 or similar temperatures

Mine idles at 30C, and seems to max around 65C. I have a dual fan card, your temps seem pretty normal if not really good for a card with lots of [components] jammed on a small PCB. ID be happy with those temps. I have a huge full tower case with a ton of fans and have a somewhat large overclock...

Modern Graphics Cards vs. Game Consoles

Why on earth would you use a mouse/k-board on a console? While I agree that reaction times and accuaracy are much worse on gamepads, I couldnt see myself playing Black Ops on my PS3 with them. I wouldn't be fair and it would be just plain awkward.

Modern Graphics Cards vs. Game Consoles

When games are tailored to a specific platform using the same hardware for multiple years, developers can take advantage of prior knowledge to create game that couldn't normally run on said hardware. This is why consoles are for more casual gamers, the longevity of the console itself. I own...

ok my video stutter with the gtx460

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=333572 Could be the mobo, could be drivers as well? Try these 265.90 Quadro drivers, modded INF is available at that link as well. I am using these on my GTX 460 1GB and they are the MOST stable drivers I have ever used. Not one game or video related...

    Which GTX 460 to get?

I really like my Gigabyte 1gb version. It idles at 28-30c and maxes at 66ish(23c room temp), and has a pretty good overclock(125mhz on the core, 100 on the memory). Driver support has been ok, but it is a new card and it needs some time.

    Monitor Question +27/28" Choice

I have a 25.5 inch Samsung T260, 1920x1200 res, and it is a spectacular monitor. I would suggest looking it up, mine was $400 at the time I bought it (cost at Best Buy :)), which was over a year ago, may have gone down. The Hanns-G is good too from what I have seen.

    GTX 460 cyclone or 4890?

I have an Intel SSD and my system just doesnt make noise. It is kinda creepy actually, silent beast.

    HD 5850 Catalyst Question

Nope, my 4870 just never liked forced settings, never really looked into it. I will try with my GTX 460 though, maybe it was just a brand thing.

    HD 5850 Catalyst Question

^ Really? I always had crash issues with CCC when trying to force settings through the CP.

Selecting processor for my new dekstop

AMD here hands down. While the i3s are cooler and overclock very well, things are going multi-threaded, having those two extra cores will be key in the future. I find AMD setups to be cheaper overall as well.

    HD 5850 Catalyst Question

As the others have said, application settings should be used, they are just more stable. You start forcing things and issues will arise.

    GTX 460 cyclone or 4890?

I just upgraded from a 4870 to a GTX 460, and while I don't see a huge difference in the games I play(MW2, DA:O, COH), it is cool and absolutely silent. Overclocking can get you close to 5850 levels, would a 5850 not be an upgrade over a 4890? I think so, as long as you can sell your card and...

GTX 460 Fan Speed Locked ?

Same problem here, I have the Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB and Rivatuner will not work, have not used it before either. Although MSI Afterburner works, I can mess around with voltage, all clocks and can set fan speed to 100%.

Need a graphics card for 1920x1200 max in StarCraft2/Diablo3

Yes that PSU is good, I have the exact same one and im running i7, you should be perfectly fine. Look into the Gigabyte GTX 460 1gb, it has a quiet and effective cooling system.

Is it my card? *update* card dead, suggest a new card :)

Then just run a couple clean cycles, but your right, its not worth poisoning yourself over a broken graphics card....or is it :)

    Power Supply for GTX 460

The point was most pre-fabbed units would have a useless power supply because they just need to run the basics. EDIT: I retract my snippy comment, after actually looking into Dell PSUs.

    Power Supply for GTX 460

^Exactly, is it a PSU from some pre-fabbed Dell or Acer, or is it a decent PSU from a name brand.

    Power Supply for GTX 460

Whats the rest of your system like? Depending on your other components you may be able to. What is model of the power supply? You will need to make sure the 12v Rail has enough amps for that card as well.

    Does hyperthreading impact...?

Turned off HT last night, load temps dropped aproxx 10c, no noticeable performance gains or losses, on Vista 64bit by the way.

Need a graphics card for 1920x1200 max in StarCraft2/Diablo3

Whats your budget? I just purchased a GTX 460 for $250, thats Canadian though, it will be able to max that game just fine. If your budget is lower maybe look into the 57xx series from ATI. Coming from an HD 4870 owner, you would probably want something with at least that caliber; I also game...

Is it my card? *update* card dead, suggest a new card :)

Agreed, a lot of people over at the NBR forums have tried this on they're laptops graphics cards and it worked. As he said you have got nothing to lose by trying it.
