Advice on Specs to connect to 1080p TV to watch CBS, Hulu, etc

I have looked into boxes like the Roku. They seem to be similar to tablets in that you have to have an account with someone (hulu, netflix, amazon, etc) to get to shows. Also, the relative is willing to spend a bit more to have something they can travel with - thus the leaning toward laptops...

Advice on Specs to connect to 1080p TV to watch CBS, Hulu, etc

What is the minimum GPU/iGPU/APU/etc needed to stream internet content over HDMI to a TV at 1080p? I have a relative who is looking for a something they can connect to their TV and watch TV shows on. They do not have paid accounts with any service, the goal is to be able to watch shows...

    IP / Security Camera suggestions

Thanks all for the advice so far. That would be great, if you don't mind. I've read where others mention that software but haven't seen it live before. Also, what kind of camera(s?) are you using?

    IP / Security Camera suggestions

Looking for some advice on security cameras / ip cameras. I'm looking for a decent indoor cam that has good low light (night) capabilities. Was looking at the Panasonic BL-C230A but that seems to get panned for its low light capabilities. Saw the Compro 540 review here at AT and that has me...

    Which RAM for Gigabyte P55M-UD2?

The more important spec would be, what CPU are you using? Then if you say anything other than an i7 8xx, the question is whether you are going to overclock or like to play with RAM BIOS settings. If you don't plan to overclock the RAM and do NOT have an i7, then you will not be able to run at...

Looking for a Wireless-N printer that operates at 5GHz- do they exist?

Looking for a Wireless-N printer that operates at 5GHz- do they exist?

I'm looking for a wireless printer that can operate at a frequency of 5 GHz. I have a single-mode home router that runs at 5 GHz because of interference/reliability issue experienced at 2.4 GHz. I discovered almost on accident that some of the top (marketed) printers that are wireless-N only...

    Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3R Memory issue

With the 1366 and 1156 CPUs, a common cause of seeing 4GBs but only showing 2 GBs as usable is poor pin contact between the CPU and the socket. Some have resolved the issue by simply reseating the CPU. Others have had to find and straighten bent pins on their motherboard. If the idea of...

core i7 860 not running at full speed (have read sticky)

Good work figuring that out. I've helped a number of people who have mysteriously had their multiplier set to 15 and only recently figured out that they had not been selecting Load Optimized Defaults after loading a new BIOS. Actually, it will go down to x9.

    Programs to monitor

I've discovered a problem with CoreTemp recently. I noticed it doesn't pick up my i7 860's multiplier correctly when Turbo kicks in. Up to a x22 it's fine but past that it just sits at 22. Maybe I've got an old version. I'm running 0.99.5. EDIT: I just downloaded version 0.99.6. In a way, the...

Ga-p55a-ud3 (does this support 1600 ram??)

As I mentioned, with an i5 750 you cannot run RAM any faster than 1333 without effectively OCing your computer. You can often turn on XMP in BIOS, and many people recommend doing this, but this changes your BCLK which also affects your CPU speed. It might, as a side effect, end up turning off...

    HELP - new i5 build won't post!

I didn't see it mentioned so I have to ask, did you plug in a system speaker? You won't hear any beeps without one. And a common misperception - helped along because this is often called a case speaker - is that you can plug you case's speakers or other computer speakers in and get sound...

Ga-p55a-ud3 (does this support 1600 ram??)

That board can run 1600 MHz RAM. With an i7 860 or i7 870, you'll have a memory multiplier you can use to reach 1600 MHz. With an i5 750 (or any i3 or i5 Clarkdale CPU) the highest you can reach at stock is 1333 MHz. But if you OC your CPU and memory the board will support the faster frequencies.

My Intel i7 860 runs hot!

My i7 860 idled at 25C with the stock cooler. That was with ambient temps of 18C, and Speed Step enabled. Under 8 threads of Prime95 it would shoot up to 80C. Intel Burn Test at 5x, High, 8 threads would take it to 85C. With the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ the idle temps dropped to 18C (with...

    Help, computer wont boot

6 hours should do it. I also like to use Intel Burn Test (uses linpack), you can decide whether or not that's necessary. But I would run a few gaming sessions to make sure its stable under your 'every day' use. Once you've done some stability testing and put it through a few normal use...

    Help, computer wont boot

Glad to see you got the memory situation sorted. Usually with the socket 1156s (and I think I've read 1366s) when you run into the problem with 4 GBs installed but only 2 GBs usable it's because of poor contact with pins. Sometimes reseating the CPU is enough to fix it, sometimes you have to...

    Help, computer wont boot

Have you done any tweaking in the BIOS? So each stick works by itself in slot 1, or by itself in slot 3? But with both slots filled it doesn't work? It sounds like you have the right slots but just to be sure - by slot 1 you mean the 2nd slot from the CPU and by slot 3 you mean the 4th...

    gigabyte P55m-ud2 issues

Once again, for what it's worth, this board works fine with my Corsair CMPSU-450VX which is ATX V2.2. Last time I checked I couldn't find a PSU spec requirement for the board. That doesn't mean there isn't one, I was actually surprised not to find one.

    A-Data & Gigabyte Proper Settings

Nope, won't hurt it. If it's stable at 1.5V that's even better. You can set it to 1.5V if you want, I like to set values when I know what they should be because "auto" can sometimes change depending on other settings. I don't think DRAM Voltage is one of the settings that would ever change, but...

    A-Data & Gigabyte Proper Settings

It will not hurt your RAM to run it at 1333 MHz. In fact, you might even be able to run with lower V, for example see if it's stable at 1.6V. You could also try tightening the timings. Either way, once you have it running, test it with memtest86+: http://www.memtest.org/

    A-Data & Gigabyte Proper Settings

What CPU did you purchase? The only socket 1156 CPUs that support 1600 MHz without OCing are the i7 860 and i7 870. Unless something has changed with the Clarkdale CPUs, you will not be able to run RAM faster than 1333 MHz without OCing for an i3 or i5 chip. Your RAM has a very wide range...

Modify USB car charger to work with Motorola phone?

I bought two sets of USB to micro-B cables and USB car chargers from monoprice.com for use with an LG Lotus and a Motorola Q9 (e or c). They work great with the Lotus. The cable works fine with the Motorola Q9 when connected to my computer. But when I try to plug it into the car charger, it...

    1156 stock cooler wiggle?

I don't remember there being any wiggle on mine. I've since upgraded to a Hyper 212+ so I can't check. It's good you can't lift the fan away, but I'm surprised that you can "rotate the cooler back and forth slightly." Do you see the plastic feet sticking out the back of the motherboard?

    Micro ATX build, need comments

I'm running the same board (GA-P55M-UD2) with a 4670 GPU and an i7 860. The thing idles around 70 (measured with kill a watt) and at max CPU load I don't think I've been over 190. I picked up the Corsair CMPSU-450VX after reading this review: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/540 A...

    1.65v modules too much for P55? 1156/i7, i5

With the i5 750's, what has it done to the CPU multiplier? Every one I've seen so far compensates for the increased BCLK by lowering the CPU multiplier to 17. This means that you're running at a constant 2.72 GHz with no Turbo. As opposed to 2.66-2.79GHz with the ability to turbo up to 3.20GHz.

    i5-750 & Turbo Boost question¿

To enable Turbo for the i5 750, the multiplier has to be set to 20. This is not a limitation of your board. For i7 860s, the multiplier would need to be set at 21. I believe the other requirements are to have Turbo and C1E enabled. You may also have to have the C-states enabled.

You're welcome. Good luck with it. If you do swap for new RAM, consider something that runs at less V. If the Vtt to Vdimm difference does have to be less than .5, then 1.5 V or even 1.35 V RAM would work better.
  34. E

    Most frustrating build in years

A couple things I've seen recently may relate to your problem. First, Vtt may need to be within .5 of the Vdimm or it won't boot stably. Since you're RAM is running at 1.65, this may be why you had to up QPI/Vtt to 1.17. Also, BSoD 124 might be solved by raising the Vcore or the Vtt. So if...

    1.65v modules too much for P55? 1156/i7, i5

If you turn on XMP on in i7 860 for any RAM with greater than 1600 MHz frequency you will lose Turbo (you may be able to bring it back by OCing your CPU) and will likely have to turn on power saving features and sleep states (EIST, C-states) although it's not a bad idea to specifically enable...

I don't know what else to suggest. Post the BSoD error and see if someone else knows. What does google say? You could reformat and reinstall Windows and see if it goes away, without installing any other software (assuming you've already installed some other software). If you have any...
