Alarmingly high temps on watercooled GTX 570

My guess is that the waterblock is not making proper contact with the GPU core. High idle temps and no ceiling are telltail signs. If it was a waterflow problem as you mentioned it would affect the CPU temps as well since your loop is a single loop. My advice is to take off the waterblock...

Performance worse after SSD alignment - confused

Good call. I remember reading somewhere a few days ago that microsoft decided on 1MB (1024k) as default seeing that many manufacturers have page erase sizes ranging from 32k (older stuff) all the way to 512k (OCZ comes to mind). Since 1 MB is a multiple of all these values, it's a nice hassle...

    C300 or Vertex 2?

You can't really go wrong with either drive. But personally I'd go for the Vertex 2 mainly because sandforce has way better internal garbage collection. I have a Mac Mini my brother left behind, and I to retire my Vertex 2 to it after seeing that Intel comes up with in a few months time. Well...

    Memtest86+ issues

If I remember right it's memtest86 that shows the red lines for errors by default, and not memtest86+. Memtest86+ is a fork based off the original memtest86. It's been over a year since I've encountered any ram with errors so i cannot answer if memtest86+ does or doesn't show red lines detailing...

2 microsd cards in one slot?

Yes you're right. I must've skimmed that particular post for some reason. My bad.

2 microsd cards in one slot?

Yuriman didn't say what exactly he intended to be used for. If its for something like a digital camera personally I wouldn't bother as most cameras are designed so that the card slots are easily accessible. If it's for something like a portable mp3 player then most have internal storage or...

    WD3200AAKS - disappearing bad sectors?

Does the bad sectors still show up after the full erase? As logical bad sectors can be fixed with a full erase whereas physical ones cannot. You can try using the "format" command in cmd prompt with the /p switch to force it to zero out the drive multple times in an attempt to fix logical errors.

2 microsd cards in one slot?

It's not exactly impossible. Photofast have been making multiple micro SD to single CF and Memory Stick adapters for years. The Sony PSP community have been swearing by the Photofast CR-5400 for a long time. I have a few of these I use in my PSP and a Sony digital camera, and they are amazing.

I now have two SSDs... which one for gaming pc, or work pc?

Well depends if your work PC was bought with your own money, of it was from your company (ie if you quit/get fired you have to return your work PC). If the work PC is your own then I'd probably put the Super Talent in my work PC. If the company owns the work PC then screw it and just blame your...

SSD - When we hit the laws of diminishing returns

I think you obviously haven't seen an SSD in action. The advantages of SSD drives is for it's speed not for it's mass storage. Last year madshrimps timed 2 identical dell laptops, one with a typical 7200 rpm HDD and the other a OCZ Vertex and filmed their boot times. They mirrored the hard...

    why indilinx controller called barefoot?

Maybe the Koreans have a foot fetish? It's just a name. Does it matter?

    Win7 cant see SSD

This is the reason why you put a fully charged battery in the laptop before you flash anything. Even a old battery that can't hold it's charge will last 5 mins to at least finish off the flash. Battery in laptop = free UPS. Anyways. I'm not sure if it's applicable with laptops, but with...

    1-2tb SSD for MacPro?

SSD technology is still advancing, and quite fast too. So if you don't plan on getting new VI's in the next 12-18 months, you're better off just getting enough storage size for your current needs with a little spare. Reason is the $/gb is slowly dropping and speeds are increasing. The next...

    1-2tb SSD for MacPro?

You using Digidesign Pro Tools I assume? How many tracks do you run at the same time? Don't know what sort of performance gain you expect by getting 2TBs worth of SSDs. The only advantage in using SSDs in Pro Tools i can think of is a reduction in lag time if you like to do a lot of sudden...

    1-2tb SSD for MacPro?

Maybe he might have too much money to burn, but the main question here is, what exactly does he plan to do that justifies that amount of SSD capacity? If it's general storage it really is a rather inefficent use of cash. Only reason is if he's running some massive database server (which I doubt...

Intel SSD X-25M 80GB G2 Win7 Trim, but defrag enabled?

I'm pretty sure by disable it means the schedule has been disabled by default, as in it doesn't run in the background automatically. But it's not supposed to stop you from running it manually, nor stop you from re-enabling the auto-run feature if you choose to turn it back on yourself.

    Which 128 GB budget SSD?

Thanks for the link on the refurbs, but unfortunately I am based in the UK, and the UK arm of crucial don't seem to have refurbs for anything for sale. As for the Corsair Nova it's actually out of my intended price range, it's going for around £290 whereas I can get myself an intel X25-M 160GB...

    X25-M(V) erase block size?

Since 512kb is a multiple of 128kb, why not just align the partition assuming it's 512kb? It'll still be aligned either way.

    Which 128 GB budget SSD?

Thanks for the posts. So, how good is the new JMicron controller compared to the Indilinx used in the Solid 2? I am starting to lean towards the OCZ mainly for their better firmware support. On another note, after chatting with my mate about SSDs, he seems interested in jumping on the SSD...

    Which 128 GB budget SSD?

I'm interested in getting a budget SSD for my laptop. Since my laptop can only take 1 HDD I plan on getting a 128 GB SSD for it. The laptop runs Win7 64 so TRIM support is important since it'll also be used for storage as well. Currently I'm interested in either the OCZ Solid 2 120GB or the...
