Alignment is your biggest concern when cloning. Acronis TI 2011 or later will allow you to correct the alignment. I have had the best luck by inserting the drive into my system and use Win 7 to setup and format the drive before copying the system to the new drive. If you formatted your current...
Yes, there are reviews out there with the new FW, do a search on Crucial M4 reviews. Read performance is now on par with the others, write performance is better then it was but still slower then the Vertex3/ForceGT.
Jury is still out. But for me it is day and night difference. With the old FW I was getting 4 to 5 BSOD daily. I pulled the drive last week it was so bad. When they came out with the new FW 2.15 I reinstalled the Vertex 3 with the new FW. Changed nothing but the FW on the drive. I have now...
Just installed a new SSD in one of my systems using Acronis TI 2011 to copy the drive. Windows, Office, Street & Trips transferred without any activation required. Diskeeper did not as I had exceeded the activation count. A quick e-mail to them fixed that. The activation thing with Diskeeper...
Have been running for nearly 3 days with the new FW and it does appear to have cured the problems I was having with the system freezing and BSOD 4 to 5 times a day. No other changes to the system but the new FW.
I installed the Crucial M4 I bought to replace the Vertex 3 with in my backup...
Maybe or Maybe not. How is that for a definite answer. I have done what you are describing and had varying results. I have had to reactivate at times and have not had to on other swaps. Most of the time if it is nothing but a HDD swap Windows will activate without any problems. The worst...
I agree. I have 2 Intel, 1 Mushkin,an OCZ Vertex 2 LE, and the Vertex 3 Max. And the only drive I have had that was not plug and play was the V3. I did do some tweaking of the system but that was only after the drives were up and running. I had problems getting the V3 to work at 6GB/s with...
OK now, so I change out the OCZ Vertex 3 with another SSD or HDD changing nothing else and my system becomes stable and it is my drivers, Bios settings, MB, etc. that are causing the problem?
I don't quiet follow your logic!
I have had my Vertex 3 Max I/O 128GB since May and had no problems of any kind until about a month ago. Nothing was changed on the system. System starting BSOD with no dump file created, started looking for causes and narrowed it down to the V3. Installed my old V2 LE with a copy of the...
It is working for me so far. Jury is still out to see if it is a real fix. I was to the point that my system was getting a BSOD 4 or 5 times a day with a Vertex 3 Max I/O 128gb. I finally pulled the Vertex 3 and copied my drive with Acronis TI to my old Vertex 2 LE and had no problems.
I...
1. For me 2.09 reduced my ATTO benchmarks by about 4%.
2. It (2.09) allowed me to use my Vertex 3 Max in my hot swap bays, whereas I could not before. System would hang at boot with previous firmware. I had to connect directly to the motherboard and bypass the hot swap bays. I will...
I did check the facts before I posted. I did not say all SSD's have to be in AHCI, I said that SOME do, that is not all. There are several SSD's that need to be in AHCI to update.
Below are examples:
Corsair: Corsair states that the drive must be in AHCI to update firmware on the Corsair...
I have a Vertex 3 Max with the new Firmware. The throttling in my case is less then 4% on the ATTO benckmark. I can now use the drive as a boot drive in my hot swap bay whereas I could not before. The slight reduction is speed is worth the stability and functionality. In my opinion anyway.
My failure rate is 50%, the first Vertex 3 Max lasted all of 2 days before it bricked. The replacement has worked fine for close to 5 weeks. And I did give it a 1 star rating because of the failure. I setup both drives the same way and did not use the lengthy multi-step procedure...
And this problem is not just with OCZ, the new Corsair Force 3 with the same Sandforce controller is experiencing the same problem. I have been following it on both forums and the problem is being looked at very hard by all parties. And as groberts101 points out the drive cannot be flashed...
If computers are not similar motherboards, processors, video cards, etc. you stand a very good chance of screwing up both computers. You need to have a backup of both hard drives before you begin. You could pull the hard drive from computer A and install in computer B and test the drive for...
I recently upgraded to a Vertex 3 MAX IOPS from a Vertex LE and other then the bench marks being higher I really can't tell any difference. I also have the G2 80GB in another almost identical system and in real world performance I really can't tell the difference between the Vertex 3 and the...
Pretty much what Cerb said. If you don't have access to a Win 7 computer you will need to check alignment. Win 7 is much better for SSD's. With XP I don't know if trim works.
Possibly, or it could be a screw up in packaging. I recently received a couple of 4GB USB drives that were in the correct 8GB packaging from the factory. They were in blister packs that were not tampered with.
Something is out of kilter on Newegg. Today I was looking at the Vertex 3 Max IOP. It showed out of stock on the list of SSD but if you go to the item it shows in stock. I was able to order one today when it showed out of stock in one place on Newegg.
Update: Keep checking stock at NE as...
I have never had a problem reading external hard drives formatted on other systems with Windows 7 and I switch USB ports without problems. Anyway, glad you solved your problem.
Are the external drives using power from the USB port or from an external power supply? If they are powered by the USB cable you might try an external hub with its own power supply.
Also try a different cable, I have had problems similar to this where the cable was bad especially with USB 3.0
Most people (including me) that have OCZ drives are for the most part satisfied with the product. Just don't much care for their business ethics (or lack of). They do have good products and decent tech support but also have a lot of negatives from a business stand point.
This is one of the major issues that the firmware updates were supposed to fix. There were other minor issues but the "bricking" of the drive was the big one and rightly so.
OCZ has a new toolbox (2.36) that allows you to flash the boot drive and worked great for me. Mostly positive results on the OCZ forum and the one that are having problems are not having their drives borked.
FYI: Groberts101 is a BIG OCZ supporter (fanboy) and received a Vertex 3 drive from OCZ to test. Maybe this info will help put some of his comments into perspective.
I too would be very unhappy with a $550 drive that has the problems that you and others are having. Should not have to do...
There is a significant difference in speed between USB flash drives on the market. I have quiet a collection and to get a fast drive you usually have to go with the high end flash drives. The el cheapo drives are not normally going to preform as fast as the higher end (more expensive) drives...
You did get paid in a way. I sure didn't get a free Vertex 3 to try out. I know your are not a OCZ employee and do know that you are vocal on the OCZ forum, but you do need to be upfront about this fact on the Vertex 3. The problem I and a lot of people have with OCZ is not their product (I...
The part that bothers me the most about the whole OCZ thing (and I have read the whole debate on the OCZ Forum) is the fact that they introduced the 25nm SSD's with lower performance and capacity without any change to model #, revision #, or any method short of opening the drive to tell the...
I also would go with the X25-M 120 GB.
The 120 is faster then the 80 and the Intel drives do have a better reputation for reliability. I do have both and the benchmarks are better on the 120, especially on writes. As, far as rebates, I have never had a problem with rebates, but you do have to...
Not just the Plains or Utah. I live 75 miles from Dallas Texas and dial-up and satellite or my only options. I would love to have a good wireless solution. Cell phone coverage is marginal right now and not good enough for internet service.
