ACA (a.k.a. Obamacare) Upheld

Why are you giving Bush credit for having higher employment, a lower deficit, and somehow a free pass because he was dealing with a 'changing world'? Presidents have very little control over any of that, and Obama was the one who had to deal with a massive recession brought on in part by the...

AT Cycling Log - 100,000 miles done! Next stop ???

52 miles of mashing? You are a beast. You'll also really love how easy spinning for the same distance is once you acclimate to the change (it takes a bit of time, but you'll appreciate it greatly once you adapt).

    Started Insanity on moday

I'd worry less about calorie cutting so extremely (2000 would be minimum) and focus more on eating better quality foods. Starting a fad diet and fad exercise regiment would typically indicate that after you're done you'll go back to a sedentary lifestyle and your previous diet, completely...

    Newegg.com: Intel 520 180GB $149.99AR+FS [DEAD]

Did they actually name it 'Cherryville' because they cherrypicked components? If so that's pretty awesome.

    Need substitute for running.

Seconded. Spinning at a fast RPM (100+) gives you an incredibly low amount of resistance. You can go for hours, cardio permitting, and have crazy-low wear on your joints. "Mashing" the gears at 60ish RPMs will mess you up over extended periods of time.

    healthiest type of cereal?

I LOVE Grape Nuts... such a weird brannish flavor. When my local brewery is brewing the surrounding area smells exactly like it... makes me hungry every time. To the OP, cereals aren't great for you. It's mostly highly processed corn, HFCS and other additives to make it taste good. If you had...

Is beef bad for you (what if it was organic?)

Beef is still hurting from the low fat, low cholesterol diet fads from the 70s or whenever, but it is absolutely great for you if the cow is fed a proper diet. Organic matters less than grass fed, but the combination is (obviously) best. Try a local farmer's market or CSA that sells local...

Looks like HDD prices are going down?

Except if one company produces excess they'll be able to undercut their competitors and outsell them 10-100x. Made up numbers of course, but you act like there aren't many HD manufacturers out there.

    Question about HIS Radeon HD 6970 2GB for $203 w/MiR @Amazon

I called their support line and got connected with a nice lady from the US. I told her that I had waited three weeks while it was back ordered and had previously been told by a different CSR that it would definitely ship, she just wasn't sure when (which is true). I mentioned how 'people online'...

    AMD Radeon HD6850 ($150AR) and HD6870 ($185AR) at SuperBiiz

Honestly, what is the difference between the 6850 and the 4850? I just checked out the GPU bench and it seems like they are essentially the same card. Seems kinda messed up to pay $165 before rebate when I got this card 2 years ago for the same price.

    Help with a build

Tipping the Mailman, newpaper guy, etc

My dad's a letter carrier and goes door to door pretty often. He knows almost everyone on his route, some for years, and a few get him small gifts or bake him bread or other treats for special occasions/holidays. I've never heard or tipping though.

    100,000 miles for AT

4 miles. Apparently a one day break isn't quite enough to be back at full strength. 22 days until the 5k. There's no way I'll reach my goal of an 8 minute mile but I'm sure as hell going to try. 14,027

    100,000 miles for AT

Hey thanks, it certainly will be nice to get the first out of the way. It's hard for me to continue when it starts getting painful but I'm doing what I can to psychologically trick myself into thinking I've just started. Anyways, 4 miles today. My legs got tired way faster than yesterday so...

    100,000 miles for AT

Hmm it's time I start contributing to this. I've just begun training for a 5k, which, much to my dismay, is only a few weeks away. I have from today to January 10th to get my ass in gear so hopefully that goal plus contributing to this will keep me motivated. Ran 5 miles today, plus...

Until TF2 is fun on the console I'll stick to the PC. 1st person shooters without a mouse/keyboard are brutal to play.

Healthcare Industry to Propose $2 trillion in cost cuts

Yeah, and later in the article: "Many of the lenders believed the administration wouldn't let Chrysler file for bankruptcy. "The plan was to call the government's bluff. The game was to game the government," said a manager of a distressed-debt fund." Creditors were attempting to force...

Sun oddly quiet - hints at "Little Ice Age"?

I've been thinking about this a lot recently and what I've come up with is that it's sensational news and people who don't give a shit about saving 20% on electricity bills need the threat of global destruction to get them to change out their light bulbs or recycle. It's easy to change people's...

    Swine flu outbreak

From the WSJ, "Flu pandemics have been known to occur every 25 years or so, and public-health experts have long warned that the next one is overdue. The last two pandemics of 1957 and 1968 together killed about four million people." This isn't just a few Mexicans, these are 20-50 year old...
