    Gaming mouse

I have the Razer Imperator and I love it. I play wide variety of games WoW, Fallout series, MassEffect, Star Craft II. I came from an old wireless logitech, but so far I've been very impressed.

What CPU cooler are you using?

Do these temps seem about average...

I'm wondering if the hyper212 isn't on quite right? I did the whole, spread some arctic silver 5 to fill in the grooves, made by the heat pipes and used the rice size spot on CPU. If its acceptable I'll probably just leave it as is.

Do these temps seem about average...

CM 690 with 1 extra intake and exhaust. CPU: Core i5 760 @3.3ghz HSF: Hyper 212+ Idle: 28-29C (according to CoreTemp) Load: 58C Highest shown (After running Intelburntest 3x) Should these be lower, higher? I have a feeling these are well within acceptable but I'd just like to get some...

    Thank you everyone!!

Wow, now I feel even dumber! lol. I just remember the old days, if that fan didn't spin when you powered up, then shut her down b/c its gonna fry. I'll swap it back and see what happens.

    Thank you everyone!!

Well, while it was installed in the case.. I maybe, kinda sorta forget to plug in the power switch on the front of case...:$ lol I felt like the biggest goober ever. Built 4 PC's and I forgot that.. oh well However, for whatever reason, the Coolermaster fan on my hyper 212 will NOT work on the...

    Thank you everyone!!

After some troubleshooting and stupidity on my part, new rig is up and running. I wanna thank everyone who helped out, mfenn, blackmage, and Boomer D. Specs are in my sig now ... and it runs like a champ. Turned WoW to 1920x1080, Ultra settings, it sits at 60fps according to WoW in...

New build will not power up...

Took PSU, mobo, out of case. Plugged in both power connectors, no light on mobo, no cpu fan spin or PSU fan spin... Would my heatsink cause this problem...Im pretty sure its installed correctly, but for the sake of troubleshooting, should I take it off and reseat?

New build will not power up...

Ok, I used a paperclip to jump the green and black wires and the fan spins.. I took the video card out, and left everything else plugged in, still no light on mobo, no cpu fan spin... Gonna take it all out of the case, see if its a grounding/short issue... update coming.. oh and Thank you for...

New build will not power up...

I have the PSU plugged in, both power cords are plugged in...2x4 12v power and 2x12 Main Power... Right now I have no light on mobo, nothing.. If I took the PSU out and plugged it into the wall while hooked up to nothing and turn it on, should the fans on it spin? Corsair 550w psu, gigabyte...

Good 1156 mobos that aren't expensive?

@Brencat You mentioned yours doesn't have Sata 6gb/s...if I was wanting to add a SSD later down the road, thinking around March-ish, should I be sure that whatever mobo I choose have Sata 6 or will it make that big of a difference? Really sorry btw, not trying to hijack a thread or anything...

Good 1156 mobos that aren't expensive?

Well, damn! lol. I've got everything I need for my new rig except mobo/OS. I was leaning towards ASUS P7P55D-E LX or GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3 LGA but they are the under $200 variant so I should just wait for rev 2.0??

    New build please help! :)

I dodged that "future crossfire" trap myself, which if I remember was thanks to mfenn. Settled with good mobo, 550w psu, used those savings towards a hd5870 on sale and nice 23" HD monitor. MORE than pleased.

Just to be sure I'm understanding....

Ok, this whole 12v rail thing... here's the situation: Corsair vx550w psu, powering i5, 1 HDD, 1 DVD, and an HD5870. The VX has one 12v rail @ 41amp, with 1 x 6pin and 1 x 6+2pin. SO my question is, I would just pop those 2 plugs into both spots on the 5870 (I'm assuming it doesn't matter the...

    Bad build example thread.

I would have been one of those "bad thread" people, if it hadn't of been for folks like mfenn and fffblackmage. Now my rig is almost complete, i5-760 ($170), 4gb DDR3($50), hd5870 (@$215), 550w corsair($59), 1tb Sam. HDD+ CM 690 Case ($65 combo) Total so far: $559. Not bad, but all thanks to...

    OC 6850 vs 6870

Well I did it. Got the XFX 5870, less than month old and had warranty transferred to me... for $215. I really hope I did the right thing! :\

    OC 6850 vs 6870

So if I could get a 5870 for less than $230 should I?

    OC 6850 vs 6870

I'm really trying to stay away cf/sli , my psu can't handle it and I don't believe my mobo can either. hopefully a video card round up once new gpu are out will make this an easier choice.

    OC 6850 vs 6870

My main concerns were: Price: approx. $250 Performance @ 1080p Longevity I've always had Nvidia but was hoping to go Ati this time around, but I'll just play it by ear over next couple weeks and watch the prices of the HD6870/GTX470/HD5870. I'm just hoping to get a good 2 years outta the card...

    OC 6850 vs 6870

Well, I think that pretty much sums it up. I'll go for either the 6870 or 5870 depending on which has better deals at the time. Thanks everyone!

    OC 6850 vs 6870

Would my Corsair vhx 550w psu power that 5870? Rest of components are : i5 760, Samsung 1tb and dvd burner...the basics pretty much.

    OC 6850 vs 6870

If the OC 6850 is $210 and 6870 is $250, is the performance jump enough to justify the extra 40$ or could I save myself some coin and just go with an OC 6850, ex. Sapphire Toxic 6850, etc.. OH yeah, its for a 1080p monitor, 23". CPU is an i5-760. I'd really like to game with this for at least 2...

    Help building a new pc

If your traveling quite a bit, try and see if you'll be around a Micro Center. They have the i5 760 for approx. $169.99. Getting it at that price, would save ya come coin or you could apply to a nice heat sink, and OC the bajeebus out of it.

    Help building a new pc

I think most people go the AMD for the savings in overall budget which they apply to a beefier graphics card. I went with the i5-760, just b/c I think its a beast @ its price range AND mfenn suggestions when I came here looking for advice. so +1. Don't quote me on this, but I've always heard...

I'm back, but its a good thing

I think I'm gonna go with the SSD option. The 6870 should more than handle my gaming needs at 1080. I also think I can shave a few bucks and get a less expensive mobo, not sure which one but I'll do some research. Who knows *crosses fingers*, come 2011 with a refund from Uncle Sam , I'll just...

I'm back, but its a good thing

I was thinking approx. $1200 with anything less being fantastic, but keeping price/performance in mind as much as possible. I'll spend that extra bit for nice boost in performance. It will primarily be used as gaming/internet computer. Only thing not listed below is key/mouse. I can re use old...

I'm back, but its a good thing

I had initially planned on an OC 6850 or OC 460, but if that wasn't going to last me long enough for a 1920x1080res I was going to up to a 6870, depending on budget and what was released at that time. So if I could apply that extra savings and bump up to a 69XX series I would but I thought...

I'm back, but its a good thing

I asked for some input on a build few weeks ago, but the holiday sales have breathed new life into my budget. So far I've got: Coolermaster Case + HDD= $60 Core i5 760= Free 4gb G.SKill Ripjaw=$50 Corsair 550w=$55 So right now I've got $165 into my build. I was going to use the extra budget...

A Medium-High Gamer asks: Should I wait for Sandy Bridge?

I'm no tech expert but I was in the same boat as you: do I pull the trigger now or wait for Sandy? I pulled the trigger. i5-760 @ microcenter with 6870 is a powerful combo. With decent cooler the i5 has amazing oc potential. I play the same games as you, and the money I saved bought me a new...
