    Gtx 670

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4139 Actually, it happens on the GTX Titan as well which has a lot of space below. I think its some software issue cause I am getting a lot of Windows random devices connecting and disconnecting...

    Gtx 670

I think my GTX 670 is overheating (getting some stuttering in some games), I have a GTX Titan immediately below it... anyone have a resolution what I can do to lower the GPU temperatures? The Case temperatures are really good and cool tho.

    Titan owners and GTX 780

doesn't bother me, and even today still continue to purchase Titan for the extra (compute) performance. time == money, this is only $300-$400 saved per card which is really nothing in the grand scheme of things.

    Dead GTX Titan?

Thanks all. problem fixed. It was the motherboard. The original second test I did was dumb, I forgot to plugin a hard drive.

    Dead GTX Titan?

I just got my GTX Titan. It won't boot on two motherboards. Computer 1] Boots up, shows BIOS screen (e.g., press F10 for BIOS etc...) Freezes, no keyboard works Single Beep Computer 2] Boots up, goes past initial BIOS screen "A bootable device has not been detected. Please refer to...

    Canon 50mm f/1.4 Refurbished 271.99 + free shipping

Direct from Canon: http://shop.usa.canon.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10051_10051_269493_-1 In my opinion, the refurbished canon lenses are pretty much as good as new, maybe even go through QA more thoroughly. The 50mm 1.4 is also a very very nice lens.

CUDA vs OpenCL needs a reality check...

Pretty much any non-consumer custom software. OpenCL is relatively hard to work w/ compared to CUDA. Most of the PhDs graduating are trained to work w/ CUDA, its only natural when they enter the industry to use CUDA as well. For example many custom software such as oil & gas exploration, monte...

    Titan: Excellent Performance per Dollar

If you read my OP This isn't for the "average joe", unless you are suggesting every "average joe" here is a PhD that requires intensive computing for their research. Titan is a high end product (and priced such), and definitely not for the "average joe". However, if your work / research...

    GTX580 Temps

The relationship is complicated ;) They're locked up in a sever room somewhere, I supposed I could get physical access.. but it'll still be a pain in the ass. Plus, flashing non-OEM BIOS is almost certainly never going to be approved.

    Titan: Excellent Performance per Dollar

7970 is a non factor,, unless we get like literally 100 cards for free we will probably never switch to AMD. Our codebase is CUDA and it not economical to switch to OpenCL. We also heavily invested into NVIDIA's libraries (thrust, cublas, etc..) which OpenCL may or may not have similar...

    Titan: Excellent Performance per Dollar

I think the trick is you just need to show whoever is in charge of the $$ that you will get a good ROI. imo, its not a waste of money. If you don't purchase the hardware and get research results faster, another group will and they will publish before you. Publish or perish...

    Titan: Excellent Performance per Dollar

It really depends on what you do,,, mixed results. On some things it is actually faster for the gemm matrix size we are using. e.g., see this: http://blog.accelereyes.com/blog/2012/04/26/benchmarking-kepler-gtx-680/

    Titan: Excellent Performance per Dollar

I meant 10% over 680... ~2x for Titan over GTX580. Where can you buy GTX580s for 200? newegg.com still has them for $400... 1k is really nothing... Consider the simple mathematics of a PhD student costing $10 / hr. Suppose you run your GPUs 24 hrs a dy for 300 days in a year (good estimate)...
  24. L

    Titan: Excellent Performance per Dollar

This is a mixed answer... it really depends on what you are doing. Very roughly we find for our applications they are more or less equal, maybe a 10% edge for the 580s.

    GTX580 Temps

I guess there is no way to do it if I don't have physical access to the cards? =\ The hardware isn't mine, pretty sure they won't approve a BIOS flash not from the OEM.. =[

    GTX580 Temps

How can I do that in Linux? Is it set in the bios?

    GTX580 Temps

The reason I ask is that I am getting code crashes on my GTX580s but no crash on my other cards that run a lot cooler (e.g., Tesla). =\

    Titan: Excellent Performance per Dollar

For the PhD minions out there, its time to convince your advisor to buy Titan. We're experiencing a x2 speedup over GTX680 without any code modifications!!! Time to tell your advisor time is money, double the research throughput w/ Titan!!

    SeaSonic X750 w/ 2x Titan

thanks... i think i might get a higher wattage psu, since im going to be running CUDA and that might hit the cores a lot harder than games.

    SeaSonic X750 w/ 2x Titan

step 1] become a grad student step 2] work around 100 hrs per week step 3] don't complain when you get paid $6 per hour after you have accomplished step 3, you have been deemed worthy by the research gods and hardware will be thrown at you.

    SeaSonic X750 w/ 2x Titan

I find out my lab is using supermicro 1800W PSUs, however they are not ATX format but some custom server format? I am surprised to see the highest rated seasonic is only 1250W... Is it a good idea to invest in a 4U chasis + PSU??? That should last me a lifetime? But I guess power supply...

    SeaSonic X750 w/ 2x Titan

Im thinking whether to get even more power now actually, there's a high possibility I might get 4 cards and I want to put them all in one system... I suppose that means I would need a 1250W? I can't find a seasonic for that power on newegg.com ... what would you recommend?

    SeaSonic X750 w/ 2x Titan

Actually I'll be getting the Titans for free... But the consensus seem to be I'll be at the edge and I should get a 1k PSU?
