Corsair F120 dead (?) after two years

Thanks for your reply. I dunno if this is something you can answer, but do you have any idea what drive is likely to be sent as replacement to a Force120? (I'm just assuming there are none of those around any more)

Corsair F120 dead (?) after two years

Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but I got this picture in my head of a bored but curious tech, that gets the drive going and starts to look around. I know if I worked in the area and given the chance, I would be very curious to look around what people got on their hard drives. I'm sure there's very...

Corsair F120 dead (?) after two years

Thanks for all the input. I'm leaning more and more towards just letting it be, and buying a new drive. The Samsung 840 Pro 256GB looked awfully tempting at first, but after doing some more reading I'm currently thinking about the extremely priceworthy Samsung 830 256 GB instead. Is this...

Corsair F120 dead (?) after two years

The Problem I've been using a Corsair F120 SSD for OS, programs and a game or two on occasion. Bought it January 2011, so it's been 21 months of what I'd consider heavy, but normal use. A week or two ago Windows crashed, and upon reboot I got an error message about boot drive (the SSD) not...

    2 Sets or 1 Set?

On your first question, the only difference should be that G.SKILL guarantees that the 4 sticks will work together. Personally I would consider it a non-issue in your case really. I'd say you can be 99.9% certain it'll work just fine getting 2 packages of 2 sticks instead, and save the 50...

Some help setting up a RAID 1

Well, I've been fooling around with this for a while now. This is my experience: I started with installing Intel Rapid Storage to try to set up the array through the motherboard option. I couldn't get it working, didn't get any options to actually create a RAID even though I had changed from...

Ah, that makes some things more clear to me. Thanks.

Some help setting up a RAID 1

Thanks for your answers. This answer confuses me a bit, is it based on RAID 0?. If I set 2 drives up in RAID 1, they should be complete mirror images of each other. If 1 drive dies, the other can take over. Shouldn't this mean that if I reinstall Windows, the 2 drives will now show up as...

Some help setting up a RAID 1

I'm preparing setting up two drives in a RAID 1 array, and I'm confused about a couple of things. Using the Intel Rapid Storage BIOS option on my motherboard, I've figured out how to create the array. However, it seems it needs to clear all the data on the drives first, it can't seem to use...

My storage setup, does it make sense?

Thanks for your input, definitely gives me some things to think about. I would like to note that when it comes to personal documents and similar that could never be replaced, I do have several different backup solutions. I also don't have anything so vital that I would consider storing it...

    Hmm? Could you explain that?

My storage setup, does it make sense?

Current setup: 1x SSD 120GB (boot drive, and some other misc stuff) 1x Caviar Green 2TB (newly bought) 2x 500GB During the last weeks I've tested the 2TB drive by doing full format, and copying a ton of data to it. I'm starting to somewhat trust it. The 2 smaller drives though. They are old...

How does this 2600K OC look?

Well, only other that could possibly affect my temps would be the case I guess, which is a Cooler Master HAF 932. Lots of fans, which keeps the inside cool. I think I simply have a very good chip. Seems to require quite a bit less voltage to overclock than most others I see. I ran it at 4.4 GHz...

How does this 2600K OC look?

Those temps looks fairly high to me, considering you got a high end air cooler. I get 60-65C under load, and ~32C when idle. That's with 4.6 GHz, 1.29Vcore (manual) and a Cooler Master Hyper 212 (which is a budget cooler for a third of the cost of a Noctua). Though with that said, I don't think...

How does this 2600K OC look?

Got a question about this. It's my understanding, offset means Auto +/- whatever your offset is. With your numbers, that'd mean Auto gives a ~1.1V, and then the +0.35 offset you have adjusts up to the 1.4-1.45V you mention. But, why would Auto voltage only be 1.1V on a 4.9 GHz overclock...

How does this 2600K OC look?

CPU-Z is known for showing wrong core voltage with Sandy Bridge. Google for 1.56.4 (it's not available on the main website) and it should hopefully fix that problem. Personally I would not be using 1.385 core voltage, I plan on using this CPU for like 3 years, and don't want to risk anything.

    What's your windows experience index?

I certainly don't put much trust into WEI, but here's mine: Processor 7.8 Memory: 7.8 Graphics: 7.9 Gaming graphics: 7.9 Primary hard disk: 7.6 i7-2600k running at 4.6 GHz, 2x4 GB 1600 MHz 9-9-9-24, GTX 570 (stock), Corsair F120. Is it even possible to hit 7.9 processor?

    i5-2500k temperature?

For reference, my overclocked 2600k shows ~40C in BIOS and ~30C idling in Windows. Did you apply any thermal paste on your own? The stock cooler comes with it preapplied I think.

New computer not booting anymore [concluded]

Update: Board was sent back to where I bought it, and they confirmed my problem. I received a new one a few days ago, and it installed just fine. After some problems with cold boots and memory speed defaulting to 1066 MHz (common problem with this board with the early BIOS), I even dared to...

    SB Overclocking Thread

I'm observing the same, whether it's normal or not I'm not fully certain. At full load, I'm seeing roughly: 58C-60C-63C-57C, on a 2600K. I'd definitely recommend trying to get your Vcore a bit lower, most people seem to feel around 1.38-1.4 is absolute max for an everyday OC.

    SB Overclocking Thread

Finally got my machine up and running after a lot of problems with a bad motherboard. I've only done some basic OC for now, sitting at 4.4 GHz at 1.25 Vcore. The cores seem to max out at 55-60C running IntelBurnTest using a CM 212+ cooler. My goal was around 4.3-4.4 GHz, but seeing how easy...

    i5 2500k and P8H67

You can not properly overclock with a H67 chipset. I think you can fully use the Turbo mode and maybe change the FSB as much as it allows, not sure about that. Either way you're not gonna reach any high numbers. CPU-Z can show you what core speed your CPU is running at in real time.

    [Q] Have 2500K Maybe I7 950 as a Replacement?

Last I read, Intel had only been able to replicate the problem by using way more voltage and heat than normal, to speed the process up. Personally I think exchanging a SB setup for a i7 950 over this SATA issue is crazy, but as long as you're happy that's all that matters.

    New Computer boot issue

This seems to be a fairly common problem with the Asus P67 motherboards, seen it mentioned in a lot of places. Sadly I have no idea if there's a proper solution. Edit: Try resetting the BIOS if you haven't already, a some people say it solved their problem.

New computer not booting anymore [concluded]

Thanks for the tip emueyes, I'm afraid I've already done that a few times as part of my troubleshooting. The board has been sent on RMA, I'm praying they'll conclude it's defective and send me a new one. Worst case would be that they say it's working fine for them and sends it back to me, and...

New computer not booting anymore [concluded]

I don't have the CPU cooler installed per se anymore. I do however have a fan connected to the CPU_FAN connector on the motherboard, to rule out the possibility you mention (I've tested both without and with the cpu fan connected, doesn't make a difference).

New computer not booting anymore [concluded]

My problem hasn't changed, it's been identical since I flashed the BIOS. With everything put together properly, the CPU LED goes red during the POST and I can't do anything (nothing shows up on the monitor, keyboard isn't responding as far as I can tell, etc). With only graphics card and memory...

New computer not booting anymore [concluded]

I can tell because the CPU LED remains red. I've also doublechecked by temporarily putting in a graphics card and monitor. This is also why I'm thinking it fails during the POST, before the BIOS comes into play. I've simply applied the big heatsink to the CPU when I've tried booting up, no need...

New computer not booting anymore [concluded]

I don't have anything other than the absolute minimum connected, not even any memory or video card. It doesn't make any difference what I put in or take out, I get the same error. I've also removed the CPU backplate, and have not reinstalled it. If it is as you say, that might just be it. I...

New computer not booting anymore [concluded]

Is it bad practice to simply use the power switch at the back of the PSU? That's how I've always done it over the years, and until now I've never managed to break anything (if I indeed have now). Is it necessary to physically remove the cord to be "safe"? (In addition to grounding yourself of...

New computer not booting anymore [concluded]

Nope, I have no access to the BIOS. All that happens on powerup is that fans start to move and the CPU LED goes red. If I connect my graphics card, it powers up and its fan starts to spin as well, but I get no video showing up on my monitor. Nor does it seem to reply to any keyboard commands...

New computer not booting anymore [concluded]

Thanks for the answers. I already have the board outside the case, and I've more or less done what you describe a number of times by now. I've used the power switch on the PSU though. I think over the night I'll pull the cord, remove the battery and leave the jumper on reset CMOS. I doubt...

New computer not booting anymore [concluded]

I had been reading up a lot on the board before I got it delivered. It was very clear that the best bet to avoid problems with memory and other stuff, you should update the BIOS. Additionally, many people have had problems when they did NOT reset the BIOS after the update. This is something I've...

Is the CPU socket pins supposed to look like this? (pictures)

Thanks for the answers. Sadly if the pins look ok, that means I've still got absolutely no clue what part is causing my computer to not run. It's not a stability problem though. My newly built computer won't POST, it gets stuck early on with the CPU LED shining red. Feels like I've tried just...

New computer not booting anymore [concluded]

There is thermal paste both on the CPU and the heatsink, I just haven't kept washing it off and reapplying every time I've removed things. I realize that's not optimal, but certainly it must be fine for very short idle times. If I ever get things working I plan on redoing it properly. When I...

New computer not booting anymore [concluded]

Hi, I'm afraid I don't anywhere near far enough to try to re-flash the BIOS as things are right now. Unless there's some trick to it. I don't think the Asus P8P67 Pro have dual BIOS's, sadly. I did use thermal paste on the cooler yeah, and as mentioned the CPU was running at 30C when I got...

Is the CPU socket pins supposed to look like this? (pictures)

I'm having some computer problems, and I'm worried that the CPU socket pins have somehow been bent. I've taken pictures with my camera, but finding it very hard to get good ones. When I look closely with a flashlight in my hand, to me the pins look to be tilted, not just a few but all of them...

New computer not booting anymore [concluded]

Update: I have removed the CPU Cooler backplate from the motherboard. I have also tried the PSU in my old computer, it works fine (while still within my new case). My main suspicion now would be either that the CPU socket pins are somehow broken, or that some electricity lines around that area...

New computer not booting anymore [concluded]

Edit: The post ended up long. The very short version, which probably won't be very useful: Motherboard sitting outside of computer case, won't POST, CPU LED shining red. So, I built myself a new Sandy Bridge machine. These are the parts I feel could in any way be related to my problem Asus...

If you bought 2600k over 2500k were your reasons?

I upgrade my computer roughly every 3-4 years (new CPU, MB, Memory, probably graphics card). So when I do upgrade I want to make sure it'll last a long time, without going crazy and spending 1000€ on a CPU or anything like that. For me the biggest point was HT, and then the extra cache and...
