    Spec me a 60" tv on a $5k budget

Hey guys, I've just moved to the US for work and will be here for a two year period, at which point I will be heading back to England. Im in the market for a new tv but am mindful that there may be issues with anything I buy here working back in the uk. The specific issues that I can think of...

Spec me a 24" gaming monitor for £250

Mainly fps to be honest. Perhaps on that basis Id be best off going for the 120htz models. Thanks again

Spec me a 24" gaming monitor for £250

Thanks. Is 120htz really 'all that' for gaming? I only ask as i have no real interest in 3d at present so Im wondering what the fuss is about 120htz Also, is it worth considering some of the ips panels out the like the dell ultrasharp?

Hey guys Theres another thread on similar lines but its getting a little out of date. Does anybody have any suggestions for the best monitor out there for gaming at a budget of around £250? Ive been using a 24" samsung tn panel until now but it packed up today so im in the market for a...

    Hard Drive Woes

"To resolve your current issue, your data is intact. You'll need to do a partition recovery. I highly recommend testdisk. It's free, extremely powerful, but it's not user friendly, but it sounds like you got enough knowledge to use it. However, if I were you, I'd download the manufacture's...

    Hard Drive Woes

Thanks ill try one tomorrow. Weird thing is that windows sees the drive but not only does it not detect any file system under properties (not even RAW which i understand is normal for corrupect disks) but if i go to format it it detects the disk size as only 31.8gb

    Hard Drive Woes

Having an infuriating problem with my hard drive. I have 2 hard disks, one for Windows, the second for Steam and other games. I was doing a big of cable management earlier and to change something around had to pull the SATA cable out of the second hard disk. After a couple of seconds I put...

    Wonderfully weird GFX issue

Thanks gents. Looks like a replacement is needed. I'm thinking GTX 460 or 470. Probably 470 given the price has come down so much. There's one I cant get for £180 including Mafia 2 which seems like a good bet. EDIT: Er... sorry double post. Not quite sure what happened there.

    Wonderfully weird GFX issue

I've tried the dust option with no success. Regarding the driver corruption option, you could be right but wouldn't that only kick in once windows loaded? I'm getting visual madness from the first screen onward. Even if I jump straight into bios the text is all over the place. Regarding...

    Wonderfully weird GFX issue

Hi All Having some incredibly odd graphical quirks going on with my system at the moment which I wondered if anybody might be able to shed any light on. Basically I was playing a game the other day when suddenly my PC bluescreens on me and restarts. I figure no big deal and try again on...

Spec me a new GFX card

Thanks Powermoloch A few follow up questions if I may: - I hadnt considered the power. Is it more power hungry that the 8800 GTX? I always thought those things were the most power hungry card on the planet, but I may be out of date. Given my rig (see first post - no overclock running) do...

Spec me a new GFX card

Gents, My faithful old 8800 GTX appears to have died on its arse, so I find myself in need of a new card. I'm reluctant to buy myself a whole new rig, so all I can really afford to upgrade right now is the card itself, so I'll be needing a card that will work with my system. I'm a gamer and...

    Mobo/Ram compatability question

Morning All, I usually consider myself reasonably PC literate, but this has got me totally stumped. Given how cheap components are at the moment, I thought now was a good time to pick up some nice cheap Ram and storage. Ta-da! 8gb of ram and 1tb hard disk ordered and arrived for under...

    Intalling a New Hard Drive

Hello All, Quick question if I may (I've searched, and whilst there is a myriad of info out there nothing seems to fit my specific issue) I'm close to filling my 250g drive and need to invest in a new HD. I'm running Vista 64, and want to add one of the new Seagate 1tb drives so that I...

    So... CoD 4

The fixed gun on the marine part of downpour is just ridiculous. You can sit on that thing the entire game and as long as you've got a half way competent team to protect you you'll pick up hundreds of kills.
  23. E

What changes would you like to see in CoD4?

I'd agree with all the OP's suggestions
  24. E

    So... CoD 4

That isn't the point. Everybody but everybody who plays the game knows to run away when they see the nade symbol or hear the sound. The point is that several of the maps are in highly enclosed spaces where getting away is sometimes difficult, either for space reasons or simply because chances...

    So... CoD 4

Thanks. A perfect example of what I was referring to in my original post then.
  26. E

    So... CoD 4

Thanks, but I think I'd rather see the nade launcher fixed and get to enjoy an excellent game than ditch the game for the sake of a few badly balanced weapons. I don't care about how many perks it takes up, the net effect is that its broken. Whether its the weapon itself, or the perks, or both...
  27. E

    So... CoD 4

Agreed. Nade launcher is the number one noob weapon on the planet. It's basically CoD2's shotgun reborn. I can't figure out if I hate this worse or martyrdom. I particularly love that some noob tubers seem to think they're using a real pro weapon.

    COD4 question for multiplayer aces.

    1. Learn the maps 2. Stick to a decent assault rifle (probably the carbine if you're still a bit noobish) and get hold of the red dot sight, which makes 100% different to your aiming ability. Make sure you add any perks you have gotten hold of to increase damage.

COD4 multiplayer tips and class loadouts

Even the range of the SMG's (let alone the assault rifles) is silly. I was having a wonderful time on pipeline the other night hidden up in the hills picking them off from miles away with my dragunov, when I suddenly got nailed. When I watched the kill cam I see a little oik take aim from the...

COD4 multiplayer tips and class loadouts

My enjoyment of the game has gone up significantly since I got to level 55, since I no longer go XP hunting. That means that I now no longer have any use for the following items, which I quite frankly wish they would signiciantly tone down, or just take out of the game - P90 - Grenade...

Unreal Tournament 3 for PC -- why don't you want to buy it?

The demo killed it for me. In a quieter period (i.e. away from Crysis, CoD4 and The Orange Box) I would have taken a punt, but there's just far too much quality around at the moment to take a punt on UT. I loved 99, but 2003 burned me bad. CoD4 and TF2 have all the multiplayer goodness I need...

    So... CoD 4

Ha ha. Brilliant. Love moments like that when they crop up. My current favorite is my sniper class (since they fixed the sniper rifles) but it does lead to me running out of ammo quite a bit on some of the more sniper friendly maps. Fortunately you can still snipe a little with the desert...

    **OFFICIAL** Mass Effect Thread

I went there as my first planet and it really is incredibly difficult at that point. The best solution is to sprint to your right when the cutscene (that you just watched for the 100th time) finishes. You can hide around the corner where the building is in the way of the large droid...

    CoD4 Challenges

You can also do it by jumping and firing an RPG into a group of enemies at close range. I don't go after the challenges, but I think this is one of the ones I just did by accident (along with the challenge to fall a certain distance and not surive - lol - that was a real challenge)

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (no spoilers please)

That's true for the most part, although I have a custom 'sniper hunter' class for some of the more sniper heavy maps which includes a silenced SMG along with UAV jammer. It allows you to sneak in the back of positions undetected. Some of my longest kill streaks have used that combo since the...

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (no spoilers please)

Absolutely fantastic MP game, but it does need some tweaking - Martyrdom is idiotic. Just wrecks the game, particularly on enclosed maps where you often can't get away. They should make it so that you have to have a grenade in your inventory when you die for it to work - The grenade...

    COD4 Sniper Mission

Very difficult on veteran setting, but it can be done. I did it (eventually) by 1. Completely leaving my buddy to his own devices. Certainly don't worry about protecting him. He's Scottish, which means he's made out of steel and bricks rather than flesh and bone. 2. Plant the Claymore's...

Is an 8800 GT good for DX-10 gaming now?

Yes. It should have no issues whatsoever provided you aren't running a ridiculously large monitor or insist on playing on maxmum settings. Apparently 8800 GTS's run Crysis pretty well and the GT blows them away. I run a GTX, which is apparently only marginally better than a GT and can run it...
