HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

Yeah it was completely stable for about three days, then it just turned off in the middle of Stalker Call of Pripyat. I reached down and turned it back on and a fucking butane-like torch came up from that black heatsink.

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

So take the CPU and the motherboard, and that's it? P.S. I use a flathead screwdriver to power on my computer by shorting the two power pins.

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

But now I'm left with: My CPU my be burned, and nothing may be wrong with this motherboard and then this shit will go in circles. I get another motherboard and it works and I have to shell out $100 on another power supply. Edit: It's not a comp, my system is completely open, there's no case.

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

At first I called them and told them about the fire, I asked if I could returned it and I was seriously told 'hell no, are you crazy?" I cleaned that motherboard off, I took the black heatsink off and wiped all the scorch marks away as good as I could. Tried to clean the mosfet melted shit but...

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

I think they're already suspicious of the last board I returned and got replaced with this one, it smelled like an electrical fire/rotten eggs/1986 when Chernobyl melted down. From the outside of the box. Like you could smell it thirty feet away.

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

I think I have a few 350W or something around there, but they don't have those extra four pins on the ATX connector. Or the 4/8 pin situation. I've even powered this up with no RAM in it whatsoever and it still just sits there with the lights, by the way. I don't think my CHEAP AS HELL...

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

Yeah I was just trying to figure the quickest way to have this checked out, and not necessarily have to pay MORE money on that since I'm already going to have to buy a new power supply before I do anything since I didn't have my genie lamp and my genie to tell me which power supply to buy.

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

Yeah I've pulled the battery out a couple of times. What do you mean by have it checked out? Take it where? Just like, to some random computer repair guy? Or is there some secret place where I can have this stuff looked at?

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

Yeah I've already tried the one stick RAM thing, its still doing the same thing. The lights that are on are the four lights next to the RAM. There's four of them, green, greenish-yellow, light yellow, and dark yellow. They come on and just stay on, nothing else ever happens. I think the...

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

I think I already did that and nothing happened, it just stayed on. I dunno what to do and now I'm being cut down because of a power supply that was no good. If I had a genie or a spiritual guider I would've bought a better power supply. Like a stone tablet that tells you "DONT GET THIS ONE".

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

So just get a new power supply, put it in the new board and see if it powers up? I'm trying to figure out if the new board is faulty or if my CPU died when the last one caught on fire.

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

Oooh, okay. So after the cut-down (I mean run down) the Raidmax power supply was probably the problem? Or did I do something wrong? I've had this power supply since my last build (Asus P5KC) and since it was "630" and I'm only using a GTX 460, I figured it would be good enough for this...

Motherboard fried and I replaced it, now the new one won't POST. CPU Dead?

No, the second motherboard won't POST. I have it hooked up and when I turn it on, it starts fine and the four red, yellow, yellow-wish green, and green lights come on near the RAM, then it just halts. The system stays on with the lights on, it never goes any further. I don't know if the...

Motherboard fried and I replaced it, now the new one won't POST. CPU Dead?

I alright got another board. It burned up and I took it back to Microcenter, even after taking the UPC code off for a rebate, and they replaced it. Now that I have the new board hooked up, it won't post. The four lights come on and then nothing else happens. I'm using the same CPU I was...

Motherboard fried and I replaced it, now the new one won't POST. CPU Dead?

The flame cme from about 4' from the CPU, but somethings definitely wrong. All the four lights come on, but that's all that happens. It never gets past that. Is the CPU fried or is it another bad board?

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

Good advice, this Raidmax was kind of a Fry's Electronics "store brand" PSU. Any advice on a good PSU for this setup (nothing like 10000W because I don't need that apparently).

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

Voltage settings were 1.42 vcore, system agent was at 1.05, QTT was 1.25 PLL was 1.900, had my memory set to 1.65 since it defaults it at 1.5. Temperatures were only hitting 90 C in prime95, in games the max temps were ~75 C max. Build: Raidmax 630-Z Intel i5 2500k Patriot Sector 5 Viper 2...

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

Looks almost like the same type of thing, just on a different side of a different board. It was like puddles of hallucinogenic melted parts, it looked pretty cool but it smelled (smells) so bad.

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

This was my first Gigabyte board as well, I have always been an ASUS (and Microstar (MSI) back in the day) and I had a feeling something was going to go wrong. I'll have some photos up before I RMA it. The underside of the black heatsink has a narrow strip of thermal padding and it's all...

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

I need one of those little protection CPU cap things, the thing they tell you to never lose and to trust with your life. I seriously need one because I had sent mine off on an eBay transaction on another board. Can these things be bought anywhere?

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

I took that black heatsink off and it's a mess under there, that's where it all happened. It's basically a row of mosfets (I think) and two of them are just melted on some Chernobyl type stuff, no kidding. So yeah, I guess it was one of two of those little mosfet things under that black heatsink?

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

I keep calling Gigabyte and even though it says they opened an hour ago, the phone message says they're closed. It gives me a chance to leave a voice message and I've left three messages so far with my phone number and description of what happened, so hopefully these people will wake up soon...

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

I just laugh when I look and see "Ultra Durable" on the side of those black heatsinks and then think of that damn flame, it was almost some three stooges style stuff.

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

I'll get some photos of the actual board tomorrow but the part of the board that caused this is in the yellow area: It's really almost the only part that's black and burnt, everything else surrounding it is still fine. But you can tell from the back of those black heatsinks and the back of...

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

Well another reason I'm making a big fuss is because it smelt really bad, I mean for the minor damage that it did, the burnt electrical smell was the worst.

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

All of the above, I'm sorry to say. The actual 2-foot flame that came straight up from the board was actually the most scenetic part, it was ridiculous. It was almost like a torch. But yeah. RMA of course, just thought I'd like to share.

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

You can see my previous posts on the other boards when I first got the board and I was asking questions about it all the way up to this point. Whole Story: 2500k was at 5GHz (?)

HELP!!!!! Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 caught on FIRE!!!

I bought the motherboard about a week ago, got a 2500k and played around a little bit with it, I was playing Stalker: Call of Pripyat and the computer goes out. So I turn it back on and there's like this fucking FLAME coming up between the outskirt (with the onboard stuff on it) and that black...

i5 2500k getting too hot, new cooling solution? H80 or more air?

I'm sure too much voltage would be a problem for any processor after a while.. How much voltage is too much for these? This is what I'm dealing with:

i5 2500k getting too hot, new cooling solution? H80 or more air?

I know that the limit is 100, but how safe is it for these chips to run at 70-80 C for hours at a time (let's say someone's playing a game). I remember 'back in the day' when chips were running hot like, people would say they'd have a better chance of going out on you. That's sorta the...

i5 2500k getting too hot, new cooling solution? H80 or more air?

Heh.. The "just stop torturing it" really made me laugh because it's the truth, I really should, I just have this nack for wanting it to be completely stable. Real world temperatures in games are about 74-78, most I've really seen is 85. I'm pretty sure I'm okay with this cooler, I'm...

i5 2500k getting too hot, new cooling solution? H80 or more air?

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, I'll remount the heatsink in a little while and see if I can get it better adjusted. Also, thanks for telling me about better temperature monitoring software. I really appreciate it.

i5 2500k getting too hot, new cooling solution? H80 or more air?

I've managed to get my i5 2500k to 5GHz on air with a Cooler Master 212 with a push-pull situation with the fans, but I'm starting to get really high temperatures when torture testing and it's worrying me. Someone suggested that Corsair H80 water system, but I checked and to me it kinda seems...

If I had the choice, 1333 7-7-7-18 or anything higher 9-9-9-24?

Alright, thanks. What about the command rate? Does that matter either?

If I had the choice, 1333 7-7-7-18 or anything higher 9-9-9-24?

I've found the 7-7-7-18 timings to be super fast if the RAM can support it (sometimes it requites a voltage boost). If you had the option between 12GB of 1333 ram at 7-7-7-18 or 12GB of 2100 or higher of 9-9-9-24 stuff, what would you choose? Just asking. Thanks.

    Sandy Bridge system won't BOOT

Just tried my old card and it's doing the same thing. Like it's try to start up, then g out. Then keep trying to come on, but never fully come on. If I set the switch in the back of the power supply it'll come on and stay on but nothing ever happenes.

    Sandy Bridge system won't BOOT

I can't find any information on the error codes, but I do see red, yellow, greenish yellow, yellow LEDs on the board. It usually flashed those when it boots, now it's just stuck like that.
