This might be Cypress / Fermi all over again --- in terms of time to market.
Finally, Magic Lantern for the T1i / 500D has progressed to the point where it is really function. If you aren't familar with it, Magic Lantern is a custom firmware. It's been out for a lot of Canon DSLRs.
Most of the functions work, and a big benefit is the extra quality to he had from video...
The 6790 is going to be dropping shortly, and it's similar in fashion to Barts as the 5830 was similar to Cypress. It looks like salvaged chips from 6870 were used (hense the 2x6 pin power requirements).
It would seem it has a relatively high power draw for it's capabilities, but the price...
