What is the best DX mid-zoom for a D7000?
I'm looking for sharpness, fast aperture, quick auto-focus, VR for low-light shooting and good build-quality to include a smooth/precise zoom ring. I want it to be a joy to use and to never be the limiting factor in my shots.

Will the Olympus FL-14 flash work with classic Olympus Cameras like the Trip 35 and the PEN EES-2? Both of these cameras are in perfect working order and each have one contact on the flash shoe. Flashes from the proper era are either very expensive or iffy due to age.

Shot with the Nikon V1 , 32mm f/1.2 lens. Converted to B&W in Lightroom 4. 1/125 sec, f/1.4, ISO-560 under bad stage lighting in a darkened room. The girl was singing "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", so I thought it would be cool to emulate B&W Film for the shot. I’m trying to emulate...
I noticed this Nikon D40 kit on Adorama. Refurbished by Nikon which means it's better than new.

I'm so tempted to buy it, just because I miss my old D40. I traded it in, along with the old D2H, toward a D7000 and a couple of lenses.
The D40 just...
I'm looking to purchase a camcorder and want to spend $1000. What should I get?
I have filmed family events in the home and Symphony Concerts with my Sony, but it isn't HD and I am unhappy with the video quality and have been using my Nikon V1 more and more. I sometimes run into problems...
I'm fixin' to send in my 35mm f/1.8 for calibration under warranty. I have to set the focus fine-tune to -18. I never noticed any issue with my old D40 (which I sadly sold). I've also just purchased a refurbished 50 f/1.8 and am having to set it to -6. I've shot mostly with a Tamron 17-50, which...
Since I upgraded from the D40 to the D7000 I have not used my 35mm 1.8 lens very much. Playing around with it yesterday, I noticed that it just was not very sharp when viewing at 100%. I don't remember this being the case with the D40.
So, playing around with the Af fine tune, it seems that...
The old rule-of-thumb is that your min shutter speed s/b the inverse of your focal length - rounded up. (e.g. 50mm = 1/50 rounded up to 1/60 shutter speed)
I am often hearing that with crop sensor cameras you would need to multiply this by the crop value. (e.g. 50mm = 1/75 rounded up to...
I've started carrying around the Nikon V1. Light, easy and snappy. I took this shot today @ the Battle of Newton, AL.

Very interesting info on how Nikon repair service is getting much more expensive and taking much longer to do (plus other good stuff)
Very good stuff about Tamron, btw. Matches my experience with them.

I just realized why Canon shooters hate DxOMark scores so much. There's no Canon cameras in sight. Check out the top 10:

I know this has been done before, but I am uber-pleased with how well this works. Bought a roll of Scotch Rubber electrical tape at Lowes, cut two small pieces and suddenlly I have a very secure one-hand grip on the ol' S95. The rubber tape is a "soft" finish and might have to be redone if it...
FWIW
I noticed the other day that Adorama has a much larger selection of Nikon Refurb (Better than New) items than usual.
The 14-24 has already sold out (was $200 less than new)
The D700 has gone up over $100 in two days, now @ $1900
The D7000 is down another $100 to $900
The P300 P&S is...
Steve Huff and Craig Litten have me thinking I'd really like to have a Nikon V1. The prices are dropping; I suspect trying to move stock prior to the announcement of the V2.
What do you guys think...
So, it seems the D3200 sensor has the same overall IQ score as the 5D MKIII sensor. I know there are a ton of other considerations, but it does seem Canon is really behind on sensor technology...
I pass by this old run-down polling station in rural Alabama once a week. I want to take a shot as sort of a political statement and was hoping some of you guys would help me plan how to set it all up. I'm no photographer, just a hack who has generally liked cameras more than actually taking...
I finally have had some time to go out and play around with new lenses. This one is the 105mm F/2 DC lens on my D7000. My oldest son goofing around...
I started another thread showing some of the snaps from a 70-210 AF-D I recently bought off Ebay. JPEG straight from camera.
JR
Got the 70-210 AF-D off Ebay for $120 shipped. Played around with it a bit today. This one was taken @ 210mm, f/5.6, 1/100, ISO 1100. Taken in fading light (right at dusk).

Here are a few others...
I'm thinking about picking up a Nikon 70-210 f/4 as I rarely need a zoom (2-3 times a year) but like the idea of constant f/4 rather than f/5.6 at the long end (which is where I will use it mostly).
Or am I thinking wrong, and would be better off with VR and f/5.6? I will not be shooting...

Due to a perfect storm of workflow/hardware failures, I lost 32 snapshots.
I was able to use LRViewer to extract the Previews from Lightroom and save all the photos. It's not the same as having the original RAW's, but it is much better than losing the shots altogether...
It looks like....
D800 to be announced on Feb. 7
D700 and D300s officially cancelled.
D800 will have 36MP instead of the 24MP leaked earlier this year.

I had great plans to do some comparison test between the Tamron 17-50 and my Nikon 35 f/1.8. However, the fates conspired against me. I did, however, run out to the backyard and take a few snaps. Thus far, I am pleasantly surprised with this lens...

Nearly pulled the trigger on the Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 DX, but just could not do it with all the good press about the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8.
The $1000 difference is incredible (half a 24mm PCE, or a whole 105mm DC). I did go with the screw-drive non-VC model, which is recommended by Thom Hogan...
Is it still worthwhile to shoot architecture with a tilt-shift lens, or can somebody give me some advice on framing in preparation for correction in photoshop? I want to start a project, shooting country churches in the local area. In the past I have had the illusion of the bell-tower or...
My wife and I are planning to go to Atlanta in Feb. for the two-day Nikon School. Is this worthwile? What do we need to take? Is there any particular thing I need to know beforehand?

I am going to buy two flashes and was wondering if the sb-700 is really better than the older sb-600.
The sb-600 is $250 refurb.
The sb-700 is $290 refurb.
I was hoping somebody here had some real-world experience with these flashes.

Saw another discussion of this on a hijacked thread and wondered if there was any real information out there.
