Shouldn't a "twice the speed/half the cores" cpu (like the i5 3470, no turbo) have the same performance? let's say they have the same IPC, cache size, level and latencies. I think they switch threads fast enough.
Let me rephrase, in which way a "twice the speed/half the cores" cpu will be...
Thanks a lot for your answers.
When I was talking about driver support I was thinking of GPUs mainly and peripheral support from manufacturers. Are most drivers developed by the community or the manufacturer cares enough to develop (and maintain) drivers for linux? The community is excelent...
What are their respective strengths/weaknesses?
I know Windows carries a ton of legacy libraries, but that means it can support your older software, the new and it's widespread.
Mac Os X imho doesn't carry that amount of legacy around making it slender, but it's like you have to adapt to...
Are SSD partitions the same as HDD partitions? I mean, HDD partitions seem "physical" as they "divide" the drive in sections.
Are SSD partitions "logical" so the controller will still use all the channels/nand available for maximum performance or are they "physical", dividing nand and channels...
Be careful, I updated silverlight in two different computers and "lost" the ability of firefox to remember the tabs I had open in BOTH.
Solved the issue deleting the "sessionstore" files located in
drive:\Users\youruser\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\yourprofile
but I hope it...
If the updates are for the .NET framework it's normal, after installed those updates compile a ton of things, look for the process using the cpu and search for it using google.

Sorry to hijack your post but,
I've been seeing the M4 price going down a lot lately, do you think they're using cheaper/lower quality/smaller process NAND? something like the OCZ "incident"?
I hope it's just inventory cleaning like angro says.
Some google guided me to this:

It's for C# but maybe it will be useful to you to examine the sources.
I had the same issue a year ago or so, I was using the ramdisk for firefox like you but waiting that long or worse, having to shut down the computer using the power button was annoying. So no ramdisk for me now.
From Asus site:
*1: The PCIe x16_3 slot shares bandwidth with PCIe x1_1 slot, PCIe x1_2 slot, USB3_34 and eSATA. The PCIe x16_3 default setting is in x1 mode.
But I don't think you're using the black pcie so try to plug the keyb and mouse in the USB2 ports and use USB3 for high speed...
Not a national security problem of course but...
Must be nice to live in America right now. I've checked some online and physical stores (big chains):
65 -> 125
75 -> 214
add about 10 for shipping.
Other just remove all stock and tell you to wait, maybe they sold out, maybe they're...
Any tips? How are you coping with it? Cause they're selling us HDDs they had stocked for months for twice or more the price, getting astronomic margins.
With that explanation I got what I wanted. I was thinking about PSU efficiency variation (AC/DC conversion and temperature) and it's influence in global power consumption, but you made it clear that it's pretty constant in your tests so, well done, I really enjoy your posts.
I'm sorry I didn't check the link, just the image posted. The differences are minimal anyway.
I'dont know how many patches or steppings does BD need to look just a bit better. Hope AMD reduce power consumption at least, performance/watt will skyrocket.
I just love these "CSI: Idontcare" posts.
Don't hate me but, if you are really bored, you could add two more variables? PSU efficiency and (I think it's a BIG "and") PSU efficiency dropping because higher PSU temps. Maybe they both negate themselves, don't know. Is there a way to...
IIRC Idoncare raised an interesting question not about minimun stable voltage but minimun "non-eccdroppingperformance" stable voltage.
The experiment was something like testing until you reach the lowest stable then increase the voltage. If the gflops of LinX increase then test again raising...
Damage control sure it's fun.
AMD give me BD with that performance, but cheaper and comsuming less power than a 4 core unlocked SB and I'll buy it. No point being cheaper if I'm going to spend a lot more than the difference in electricity.
Nice comparison, did they disable all power saving...
What about "harvested" FX-41xx? are they 2m/4c? someone "lucky" will get a 4m/4c with 4 non-adjacent integrer units disabled? and FX-61xx, 4m/6c, 3m/6c? lol funny benchs "disclaimer: YMMV"
And about Bulldozer, I'm hoping they solve the power comsuption issue because if you use your pc a lot...
Really weird indeed...
something to do with vista and dual monitor setting? try to set it to default, same with the desktop resolution (standard vga 640x480 or so).
good luck!
Sell it, unless you get lucky, by the time you can build something to full use that gpu there will be better options to choose from.
And by selling it you may cool down your anxiety to play those games, thus getting even more time to buy something nice and cheap in the future that can play BF3...
Ask yourself, do you need your processor at full speed when you're idling? thats a power save feature even my old C2D has.
Maybe you like to rev your car when you're waiting for the light to go green but new cars even stop the engine while waiting doing... nothing :P
Oh well, if you are cold...
I think you can start purchasing now, at least if you live in Germany or Spain (haven't checked other stores). The Intel DH67CF is the first I've seen for sale, weird it only allows 65w TDP processors so you're limited to the i5 2400S.
What's the point of P67 if you can just allow overclock via software? (BIOS or something like Lucid to allow Quick Sync using a discrete card)
It seems ASUS has P67 micro ATX boards already (with 3 PCIe wtf o_O) so it's just a step further, don't want to wait for Z68...
Overclock, maybe I'm being ambitious wanting to overclock on an ITX board but thinking I could miss about 1Ghz (being conservative?) makes me a sad panda.
I have used @bios to update my board and had no troubles, but didn't use the internet option, I downloaded the bios first.
Don't know what happens if the bios doesn't recognize the cpu, maybe it won't boot so the best option should be to update first, try to download a dos boot cd and the dos...
