Recommend a TV tuner for my HTPC

I just received the HD Homerun Dual and so far it has been great! I have one computer wired to the router and it performs very well (very little pixelation). I also have a laptop that does pretty good with wireless, but there is definitely more pixelation so I will probably upgrade to a...

New build - any suggestions appreciated

Thanks for all the suggestions mfenn! After thinking about it, I think I will build the computer. It will be fun and save me a good chunk of change. :)

New build - any suggestions appreciated

No gaming. It will be used for either streaming video from the internet or viewing/encoding 1080p videos. I thought the video card would help with the encoding and viewing of videos. If that is not the case, maybe I don't need one and the integrated HD Graphics 4000 will be enough? Good...

    Intel i7 3770k or i5 3570k?

I am trying to decide between these two CPU's. I will be building a computer that will be used for streaming video (Hulu, ESPN3) and viewing/editing pictures and video (1080p). I have been pretty set on the i7 3770k, but I am not sure it is worth the extra money. What CPU would you...

Thanks for all replies and suggestions. I just order the HD Homerun Dual, so I will give that a try. It was on sale for $70 with free shipping on Amazon. :D I will let you know how everything turns out!

Recommend a TV tuner for my HTPC

I really like the fact that with the HD Homerun, I can stream OTA channels at any computer in the house. My biggest concern is having enough network bandwidth (I am considering getting the HD Homerun Dual). I only have a wireless G router, though I could upgrade to an N if needed. For those...

Recommend a TV tuner for my HTPC

Very cool, I have not heard of anything like this. If I have a wireless G router, will it stream the content ok, or will I need to upgrade to an N router?

Recommend a TV tuner for my HTPC

I am looking at getting a TV tuner for my HTPC, which one would you recommend? I will be using it to record HD OTA channels. I am currently looking at Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250. Are there any other better/cheaper options? Do I want one that comes with a remote? Anything else I need to...

High Mileage Oil - worth the extra cost?

Same here, I began doing my own oil changes several years ago, but I have been usually use regular oil. I was never sure if the high mileage oil actually worked or was worth it.

High Mileage Oil - worth the extra cost?

I have not tried this, but I might look into it. I would like to figure out the root cause of the oil burning, I just don't want to spend a lot of money to fix it. :D Has anyone else used Oil Stabilizer before and what are your thoughts?

High Mileage Oil - worth the extra cost?

I will have to look into this. I don't know a whole lot about engines, so I will have figure out where these parts are and check to see if they are good or not. :) What exactly should I be looking for with the valve stem seal?

High Mileage Oil - worth the extra cost?

No leak that I can see. It is actually a very good mosquito fogger...a couple times a year I have to scrub the back of the car above the tale pipe because it turns my white car gray! :D What plugs should I look at?

High Mileage Oil - worth the extra cost?

There is no leak, it just burns through oil for some reason. I have looked around online and it seems to be a common problem for Corolla's around 1998-2002. The only fixes people have mentioned are expensive. Some people have mentioned adding valvoline max life oil additive and that seemed to help.

High Mileage Oil - worth the extra cost?

Wow, I just noticed your signature, you sure keep those Honda's going! I hope to keep my Corolla up and running for that long. :) I typically just use regular Pennzoil or Castrol - sometimes I get the high mileage oil if it's on sale.

High Mileage Oil - worth the extra cost?

I would guess it goes through about 1-1.25 quarts of oil every 1000 miles. I change the oil every 5000 miles or so. I think the oil capacity is around 4 quarts, so I usually have to add more oil once or twice before I do an oil change.

High Mileage Oil - worth the extra cost?

High Mileage Oil - worth the extra cost?

I have a Corolla with about 140,000 miles on it. There are no oil leaks, but it does burn through oil. So is high mileage oil worth the extra cost? What does it actually do?

    Looking for a new smartphone

Good choice! :) I really like my Atrix. Have you downloaded the update to Gingerbread (2.3.4)? This was my first smartphone, so I spent a lot of time going through the Help App to figure things out.

    Looking for a new smartphone

If you are willing to wait and spend the extra money, go with the SGS2. I got a Motorola Atrix several months ago and I've been happy with it. It was $100 with a 2 year contract.

    Ditching your landline phone?

I got Ooma this past January and it has been great. I have been pleased with the voice quality. I paid $200 for it and then there is a $3/month tax (used to have no tax until about a year ago I believe). I was a little worried about how long the company would be around as well, but just...

1st smart phone Android or Apple?

I just got the Motorola Atrix a few weeks ago, it's running Android 2.3.4. It is my first smartphone and I recommend it. It just depends if you want to buy now or wait and see what else comes out in the next few months.

    HDTV/Converter Box

Thanks, I did end up getting the Samsung PN50C450. I plugged the cable from the antenna straight into the TV and the picture looks great!

    Samsung PN50C450 50" 720p Plasma TV

I just bought the Samsung PN50C450. Picture quality is excellent, especially since I just get OTA channels. I hooked up the laptop and it looks way better than I expected. So far I am very pleased with it. I have not had any issues with image retention or a buzzing noise.

    Panasonic 50"

    HDTV/Converter Box

Ok, so I have a dumb question, but I really don't know much about the newer TV's. I have an older tube TV with a converter box since the TV only has an analog tuner. I made an antenna so I get OTA channels. I am considering buying a Samsung PN50C450 and according to their website, it comes with...

    Samsung PN50C450 50" 720p Plasma TV

Ok, that is good to know. I will primarily be using it to show pictures, videos, watch Hulu and ESPN3.

    Samsung PN50C450 50" 720p Plasma TV

I will typically be sitting 8-12 feet away from the TV, so I think the 720p will work...plus it's $300 cheaper than the 1080p. :awe: The Samsung does have a PC input (VGA I believe). I was told using this input will give a pretty good picture. Is this not true? I do have DVI out on my laptop. If...

    Samsung PN50C450 50" 720p Plasma TV

I am looking into possibly buying a Samsung PN50C450. After reading reviews, the majority seem to be very positive. A couple of concerns I have is some people mention hearing a buzzing sound when the TV is turned on. Also, some mention image burn/retention issues. I like that this TV has more...

    Panasonic 50"

I am just starting to look into TV's for myself. I don't really know anything about projection TV's. I was at hhgregg's the other day, they had a 46" Panasonic 720p (plasma) for $499 and the 50" model for $599. I am not sure how this would compare to your friends though.

Frontier taking over Verizon internet Services

For those of you that had Verizon DSL and now have Frontier, what do you think? I have had so many problems with getting straight forward pricing for DSL. I had Verizon DSL for over 5 years until Frontier took it over. Ever since then, every time I call, I get totally different pricing. It...

What do you think of IE9 beta?

Has anyone figured out if it possible for IE9 to use your tabs from the previous session other than having to go to Tools - Reopen last browsing session?
  36. J

What do you think of IE9 beta?

Were you running Beta? I had IE8 and I needed to restart my computer. Is Silverlight enabled in your add-ons? That is strange though.
  37. J

What do you think of IE9 beta?

Is there a way for your tabs from the last session to be opened when you start IE? I know I can go to Reopen last browsing session, but I was hoping there was a way around this. It's one thing that has always drove me nuts about IE.
  38. J

What do you think of IE9 beta?

Yeah, I'm not sure why they have it that way. I just selected the option to show the tabs on a separate row.
  39. J

What do you think of IE9 beta?

What exactly was the issue? I have not installed IE9 until today. I opened up event viewer and was able to close it. Not sure if that helps you though.
