iPad Pro 10.5 inch 512 GB - Just got

Some apps were not built in a way that they are properly scalable. They'd probably be even "fuzzier" on the 12.9" iPad Pro. The app is being upscaled from the 9.7" resolution to the 10.5" resolution. This can be resolved and will be over time. All of Apple's native apps should support the native...

    12" MacBook (2017)

It's always good to also look into some of the context for why the Geekbench scores are so much better so that you understand the actual real life performance impact. Two basic things: Kaby Lake chips can turbo higher and they can also turbo faster. For bursty workloads, they will feel *much*...

New iPad released 2017-03-21 called... wait for it... iPad

Wat? Improved color accuracy / wider gamut display, brighter display, faster and more frequency coverage LTE modem, better rear camera, better front camera, twice the speakers, accessory connector, higher input sampling rate screen for compatibility with pencil, faster cpu/gpu.

Extremely disappointed at the new Macbook Pros

Really happy with mine - grown very fond of the keyboard and USB-C is nice and flexible.

    2017 Apple Store experience

    1. I don't find this necessarily creepy. It's just very ... very organized. 2: Maybe just that store. All the modern ones modeled after the grove style that I've been in have *tons* of seating all around that can be moved throughout the store (SF, London, others). They also do have bathrooms...

Haven't noticed any of these problems. Using TMO.

Is 3d touch really any good?

Yeah very specific cases are super nice. - Cursor movement on the keyboard - Peek-preview a link from an email so you don't have to switch apps and switch back when you find out it's not what you want - Notifications interactions on the home screen are worlds better with 3D touch as opposed to...

What restocking fee? http://www.apple.com/shop/help/returns_refund - $1500 is crazytown. I'll concede the price *feels* higher but I also feel like I got a lot more. - I'm not having any UI hitching as mentioned by HaukSwe - I have played some games on it both under OS X and Windows and (at...

    Macbook Pro extension base

Saw a CES video for it... on the right side where that USB-C port is, there is an "arm" that connects the two USB-C ports together, then you remove the screws from the bottom of the MBP and it comes with screws that go all the way through to the laptop to hold the base of the laptop between the...

Gonna try running a Firewire 800 SSD as my iMac boot drive

Finding the right adapter might be tricky, https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204592 but that'd be a neat way of keeping the computer useful. Maybe this would do it: https://www.amazon.com/AllSmartLife-DisplayPort-Aluminium-resolution-ChromeBook/dp/B017TZTLC6 though by the timeline you're...

Did you opt for the 450? I've found the 460 so far to be pretty solid all things considered (its power envelope, its ability to not melt the computer as quickly as prior generation GPUs did at full load, and its overall performance in games and in applications for OpenCL acceleration)...

Extremely disappointed at the new Macbook Pros

I picked up a 15" 2016, and I think it's important to realize that "new macbook pros" are really three different things. I'm actually quite pleased with the system, it's very fast, compiles faster than my work 2014 rMBP, the 460 outclasses the old 750 significantly, takes up less space, is...

So that claim on their marketshare is pretty wrong. Their only significant impact in market share was as you said 14 years ago until the past few years when they've had much greater share than ever before.

    New iPad, need some apps

iBooks (native reader) is a spectacularly good ebook app, so that's pretty solid. It can handle PDFs and EPUB easily. SSH, I use Panic's app (Prompt 2), thought it's paid, it's good.

That Sapphire Radeon RX 480 Nitro sure seems like a good card.

Sapphire's launch has been so papery. I've had an order in for the 8GB card from the first hour it was available to preorder on Amazon on the 25th with no signs of shipment. Newegg had a few in stock for a brief moment on the 2nd which I missed and... gah.

Migrating between iMac's using Time Machine

MA brings forward a great deal of things, but not everything for sure. You'd likely lose things like stuff installed by homebrew in /usr/local for example, but it carries over the entire User folder and applications and Keychain information and settings and more. The nice thing, that answers...

Anyone upgrading their iPad Air to iPad Pro 9.7?

I contemplated it but I'm passing mostly based on the camera bump. I don't want or need a camera on a tablet and I don't want a case on the tablet and size and balance are not perfect with it back there. Keeping the Air 2 for now.

Migrating between iMac's using Time Machine

Why not use Migration Assistant to do a migration from the old system to the new one over ethernet? No need to worry about your TM volume being perfectly up to date or issues with TM across generations, just tell the new computer to migrate from the hard drive of the old one.

El Capitan on October 2009 Mini

I have this setup but I swapped in an SSD. Be aware that the Nvidia chipset will not negotiate a SATA-II connection for all SSDs. I had an Intel SSD that would only run at SATA-I speed and ended up picking up an older Crucial M500 SSD that ran at SATA-II. Also got one of the second drive bay...

    .

That's hardly the primary rationale. It's because of application sandboxing and making a consistent experience that an app can rely upon to perform well. The argument was stronger before it was super easy to register file handling support within apps and share content between them, but now it is...

    Macbook One in hot temperatures

I would say hot and shut down are not the most common thing in even notable heat. I had no trouble using mine while traveling in Cambodia in the vicinity of 30C. It certainly downclocked (noted by decreased performance) but continued to perform. Direct sun is hard to combat though.

The "regular" MacBook makes the MacBook Air look like Fred Flinstone's abacus.

It's weird that I provide a reason for one audience (people who don't like longer throw distance keyboards) to appreciate the difference and you provide the argument that the entire populace should only agree with your viewpoint. I don't see how it's bad for my fingers, maybe it is for someone...
