    Virtual PC (and others)?

I wouldn't run Virtual PC because it doesn't support a wide range of OSes. Instead I would use something like VMWare's free stuff (requires free registration). I use VMWare Player (works on 7) and it works great with all guest operating systems (I have used Debian 5, Red Hat 6, and XP on it)...

Should I put System Mechanic back on the PC?

Also good advice: don't use anything with Mechanic in it (like Registry Mechanic, System Mechanic). Those sometimes cause more problems than they are worth. And as Anteaus said, those programs actually cause harm to the SSDs and cause them to fail faster.

    Google links re-directing

I used to download viruses to virtual machines and ran into this error before and it was never fixed after days of work and searching for something using many different programs/pre-environments. Explain "cloud" to me, and how it applys to win 7 / 8

Exactly. I work with some software that IS supported but upgrading certain software pieces will actually cause problems with the system. This too. I work with both on-site and off-site and when the off-site servers go down, there is absolutely nothing that I can do about it. But the servers...

Explain "cloud" to me, and how it applys to win 7 / 8

I completely agree. Also, a cloud-based OS for users would almost never be feasible for many businesses since in the cloud, upgrading the software would almost be necessary where as in businesses they still run software that's 10 years old. Many patches/upgrades are not possible since the...

    My first/Your first server

My first server was Squid (proxy cache) running on Ubuntu. I've moved to Debian since then.
