Is Intels fabrication process advantage shrinking?

So very true. Today I have just found another reason to read these forums: your posts. I could comment on the state of funding for basic research, but that's another topic.

NextGen Console Graphics And Effects on PC (E3 Coverage!)

Maybe this point has been brought up before, but I kinda wonder: Since the next gen consoles essentially uses PC hardware, how difficult would it be to have good console emulators on the pc (eventually)? Obviously both Sony and MS probably won't allow that to ever happen, but wouldn't it be cool...

What the hell happened to the front page?

Hm. I think that is precisely the reason I don't like it. I'm sure they'll do some tweaking to the colors, font sizes, etc. Right now though, this new design is like those gaming cases that scream colors, and lots of things yelling at you "Look at me! Look at me!". The old design was...

What the hell happened to the front page?

Ack! This morning I go through my round of looking through Anandtech to see if anything new has been posted (I'm obsessive like that), and was greeted with this new site layout. Maybe it's my resistance to change, or something, but I'm still in shock. The new layout is probably nice, but I...

Toaster hard drive docks - mean time between failures

Ah well, they can just replace the drives when they fail. At least they are good about backing up data. I was just curious about it, especially since hearding Anand mentioning the MTBF of CPU sockets in one of the podcasts.

Toaster hard drive docks - mean time between failures

In the place I work the toaster hard drive docks are becoming pretty popular, and people like to just pop off drives and transport them between toasters. As you can imagine the number of plugging and unplugging is really high for those drives. Now, I remember from somewhere that a big difference...

    triple 2560x1440?

Thanks :) I gotta say, those Korean 27's are definitely the sweet spot for monitors right now.

    triple 2560x1440?

Nah, not gaming on it. It's mainly for programming, visualizations, and simulations in Linux, which works really well so far. Although now that you mention it, when I get time I'm going to try run something like Mass Effect 3 and see what kind of FPS I get, if the game actually supports...

    triple 2560x1440?

I don't like to revive an old thread, but just want to show you guys what came out of this whole affair: http://flic.kr/p/dv6zrn http://flic.kr/p/dvck3Y Total cost: about $1330: 3x Achieva Shimian, $900 3x Wennow 27in stand: $150 1x Bizlink active DP to DL-DVI adapter: $50 1x Nvidia GTX 660...

Any Korean 27" WQHD monitor with DisplayPort?

So I have been using the BizLink DP to DL-DVI active adapter. It's about $45, but we'll see just how reliable it is...

    triple 2560x1440?

ok that makes a lot of sense. In that case my third monitor might as well be a model with displayport support then. I guess I'm stuck with Nvidia for now... but I'm using CUDA for doing simulation work anyways. Thanks a lot guys :)

    triple 2560x1440?

So with those cheap Korean 27" panels I want to get a triple setup. As is I have 2 Achieva Shimian panels (Lite version, with only dual link dvi input), and both have been amazing. So my question is, can the newer GPUs support triple 2560x1440 with a single card? I won't be gaming on this...

looking for a reliable color laser printer

So my boss put me in charge of specing a new color laser printer for the lab. Now, our last laser printer (a xerox phaser 6250) developed paper jamming issues after about 3 years, so this time around I want to see if I can find a laser printer that's decently reliable. I think the lab prints a...

Looking for a cheap sata hardware raid 1 controller (PCI-E)

Not sure about WHS, but it works well in Windows 7. I flashed the firmware to LSI's IR firmware in Windows 7 following ChrisBenn's instructions. I've been running a raid 1 setup (as boot volume for Windows and Linux) for about a month and it's been pretty smooth. Just a note, this card only...

Looking for a cheap sata hardware raid 1 controller (PCI-E)

Just an update, if anyone's still interested using the BR10i controller, it's back on sale at glcomp: https://www.glcomp.com/Products/44E8689-IBM-System-X-ServeRAID-BR10i-SAS-SATA-Controller.aspx More expensive this time though :(

    PCI-E bandwidth

So I understand that intel chipsets prior Sandybridge only run at half speed for PCI-E. But does that half speed also apply to the PCI-E controller on the Lynnfield processors? Thanks. hammer Edit: nvm, should have being more thorough about reading reviews. Blah.

    RAID 5 Questions

I like how RAID disks are more expensive, while the "I" in RAID stands for inexpensive. By "like", I mean really annoyed. So far my two Hitachi drives in RAID 1 works pretty well with the LSI 1068E controller.

Looking for a cheap sata hardware raid 1 controller (PCI-E)

Yeah, the cards I got also have mounting brackets on them. Also, works well in the pci-e x4 slot on my P55 mobo (MSI P55-GD65). I don't see an os x flash utility, but it shouldn't be very difficult to boot into a linux boot cd and flash from there.

Looking for a cheap sata hardware raid 1 controller (PCI-E)

Just an update, cards came in yesterday in a very nicely packed box. Flashed the firmware per Chris's post, and it's working very nicely now. Did run into a bit of problem when the card didn't detect any drives, but turns out to be a cable problem. Lesson learned: don't buy some generic sas...

Looking for a cheap sata hardware raid 1 controller (PCI-E)

On a related note, what is the situation with the CCTL/TLER/ERC business with Hitachi desktop drives? I know western digital is a pain about TLER (you have to get RE4 drives for TLER to be enabled). Samsung and Hitachi are supposedly using CCTL, and Samsung's support for it on Desktop drives...

Looking for a cheap sata hardware raid 1 controller (PCI-E)

Well, I can't imagine sata 6G come into play for mechanical drives anyway. I'm mainly going to use this for desktop/workstation applications where having raid 1 can ensure minimal system downtime when a drive dies. Again, thanks a lot for the info. This is absolutely fantastic. Looking forward...

Looking for a cheap sata hardware raid 1 controller (PCI-E)

I totally agree. I've not seen a new hardware raid card for less than 130, this is totally a steal. I think I'll get two, can always find uses for them later :) Time to find out if they'll work with P55 chipset using the other x16 slot... hopefully that dual x8 mode isn't GPU only... Thanks a...

Looking for a cheap sata hardware raid 1 controller (PCI-E)

Hello, I've posted about this in Tom's hardware also, but I want to see if you guys have any advice on a basic raid 1 sata controller. I just need raid 1 and nothing fancier, but I want a hardware raid controller. Currently I'm looking at the Intel SASWT4I using LSI SAS1064E chipset with...
