    New i7 Photoshop CS5 PC

If your budget is tight- Id trade an i5-2500 for 16G of RAM. new CPU + 16G ram +SSD = heaven for photoshop! I was literally shocked at the performance difference- especially when processing multiple huge mult-layer files.... and using plugs like onone, etc.

Looking for cheapest Intel-based build for Photoshop CS5.

I just built a photoshop machine and it screams now. Id go i5-2500, 16G ram... and if you can squeeze it into the budget- a SSD for Windows and photoshop.... I cant believe the difference its made.

General questions about everything. Not total newb.

How about a budget laptop? or even a netbook? For those requirements- it would seem just about ANYTHING thats boots up would be enough horsepower. I bought each of my kids a low-end laptop- PLENTY for webbrowsing, word processing, etc, etc. Not to mention the added plus of portability...

So.... I *thought* I wasnt going to be playing any games...

ok- looks like the 5850 is the winner. thanks folks! btw- I'm feeling better about the browbeating I took for oversizing my PS when I built this system: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2155059&highlight= It looks like 500W is recommended for this card....had I gone with...

So.... I *thought* I wasnt going to be playing any games...

thanks- thats exactly what I was looking for.... :-) I wasnt too far off- I was looking at a 5830 that looked like it was on sale at NE. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102878 The 5850 looks to be faster and about the same price.... I guess I assumed Id need an extra dvi...

So.... I *thought* I wasnt going to be playing any games...

Thanks.... I was struggling to find where the onboard graphics "matched-up" vs radeon cards.... example- is what i have comperable to like a 5450 or a 5750, etc, etc. I was trying to get some perspective on how big of a leap a dedicated card would be. Regarding the one listed above- right...

So.... I *thought* I wasnt going to be playing any games...

I built a new desktop for MOSTLY photshop and video editting... so I figured Id be find with the onboard graphics... And I LOVE this setup- cant imagine going back to a non-SSD setup. Only thing- is I was tempted to fire up a few games- and now I DO think Id like to bump up the GPU for some...

Choosing what to place on SSD

Thanks for the links.... If I was still an avid PC-Gamer- Id be all over loading those on this SSD. I can only imagine a huge difference (judging by the HUGE improvement with photoshop). Im a bit conflicted with switching off system restore. Its actually "saved my bacon" a few times as a...

Choosing what to place on SSD

Just built a new system and I'm BLOWN AWAY by the speed of the SSD! Im trying to determine how to best balance the speed of the ssd with its limited capacity as I start moving more apps over to the new PC. Config: i5-2500 16G ram 120G Intel SSD (on sata3 channel) 1 Gig drive for...

Anyone using a Biostar TH67+ with 4 mem slots?

lol on the spoiler! :-) Yeah- I guess I'll wait and see. I just had that cringe of buyers remorse when I read a bunch of bad reviews right AFTER I purchased..... I hate when I do that.

Tax-refund gamer PC?? I'll build it myself!

You had a bad experience with MIRs? HUH? What do you think your federal tax return was!?!?!? :-) personally, I enjoy OWING the gov't money each year so I can make them wait for it till the very end, but thats me.

Did I blow it with this configuration ?

I think I did.... Well maybe not the premiere use- but this was a photoshop rig not a gaming machine.

Did I blow it with this configuration ?

Maybe folks that are just playing computer games, but I can tell you that working with very large projects on Photoshop (on Win7-64) will swallow up just about every bit of RAM you can throw at it. Adobe Premiere (crunching HD video) will also laugh at 4 Gigs or RAM :-)

Anyone using a Biostar TH67+ with 4 mem slots?

I have one on order based on several recommendations here. Since I placed the order- I saw 3-4 reviewed on newegg complaining that the mobo wouldn't boot with 4 memory slots occupied. I plan on running with 16G (for photoshop and vid editting) and absolutely want a mobo that can handle...

Did I blow it with this configuration ?

Thanks for the feedback ! I know I could have bought a cheaper SSD, but how could I have saved big money on the ram? I thought this was a pretty decent price for 16G?

Did I blow it with this configuration ?

Thanks.... I knew I was going a bit over on the ps. I plan to load the case with HDs and wanted to give myself some room to decide to play games on this someday and perhaps go with a real vid card. Any serious downside to going too big on ps for now though? Anything else I'm missing...

Did I blow it with this configuration ?

I got some great advice here on upgrading my old photoshop pc. At the same time a newegg sale flier arrived and I took it upon myself to make some slight tweaks. Here's what I ordered: 1 x CPU INTEL|CORE I5 2500 3.3G 6M R $209.99 1 x PSU ANTEC|TP-650 650W RT $69.99 1 x HD 1T|SAMSUNG HD103SJ...

Thanks for the fast (and clickable) response! You came in WAY under budget... :-) You've got me thinking what can I do to take this up to the $1500 limit (with SSD)? A few questions: (and this will sounds really dumb): I read in the reviews of that mobo that the connector was dvi-d and thus...

I have a DELL 720 on order )Q6600) with 2G of 800Mhz DDR2 RAM (vista) DELL wanted $290 to upgrade this to 4G (seemed like robbery), so I assumed it would be cheaper to just uprgade the memory myself.... Before I order it though, can I simply buy 2 more 1G modules (same speed of course)...

Warm: Canon Rebel XT $699 After MIR (+ shipping and tax if applicable)

Hmmm, Ive bought from buydig before (my canon 10D and 20D) but I would definitely choose costco- even at a slight premium. The return policy (again) here is huge- especially for something like a digital SLR. When that shutter fails at 50,000 actuations- whammo- replaced! Hard to beat.
