My Ryzen 1700x PC won't shut down, not in BIOS or Win10 or Linux

Okay, so I've made some progress, at any rate. I bought a cheap $30 Rosewill case to use as my test bench. The motherboard shuts down and Sleeps successfully in the BIOS, and in a bootable linux on a flash drive, when installed in that case. It doesn't shut down, hibernate, or sleep correctly...

My Ryzen 1700x PC won't shut down, not in BIOS or Win10 or Linux

ASUS did it again! They did it again! They mailed my broken motherboard back to me unfixed again! They wrote on their repair sheet the same thing that they did the first time, Test ok, BIOS / Firmware / Software Upgrade (NTF). Why does this keep happening?! Why do they keep sending me back my...

My Ryzen 1700x PC won't shut down, not in BIOS or Win10 or Linux

Reinstalled the motherboard. Yep, still broken in exactly the same way. RMA service center just flashed the BIOS (what? I flashed it a dozen times) didn't even check to see if that remotely addressed the issue, and shipped it back to me. I called them up again, and now I have to ship it back...

My Ryzen 1700x PC won't shut down, not in BIOS or Win10 or Linux

Nope, it's not the power or reset button, case works fine with old Intel P8P67 Pro and Core i5 2500k OCed to 4ghz. It's the motherboard.

My Ryzen 1700x PC won't shut down, not in BIOS or Win10 or Linux

So I just got the motherboard back from Asus, after sending it in 7 days ago. And if I'm reading this service repair report correctly, they briefly tried testing my motherboard, found nothing wrong with it, and sent it right back without spending another moment on it. Here's what it says in...

My Ryzen 1700x PC won't shut down, not in BIOS or Win10 or Linux

Most of the time AI Suite is turned off. It doesn't start up automatically when the system boots up, and I haven't done anything to set it up at all. I had to manually turn it on to check what you were talking about, and then go into EPU. Under Performance and Power Saving, I made sure...

My Ryzen 1700x PC won't shut down, not in BIOS or Win10 or Linux

Sorry it took so long to post an update, I had surgery; my pectoral muscles were dissected and two large foreign objects implanted under them, and if I had done anything crazy like trying to lift a giant Cooler Master HAF 932 case with dissected pectoral muscles, I would have caused internal...

My Ryzen 1700x PC won't shut down, not in BIOS or Win10 or Linux

I called Asus to tell them about my motherboard issues. They suggested RMAing the motherboard, but said that they didn't have any stock to do an Advanced RMA (and would not substitute it for a similar Asus AM4 motherboard), so I would have to send the motherboard back first, and be without it...

My Ryzen 1700x PC won't shut down, not in BIOS or Win10 or Linux

So maybe the surest way to test is to unplug the mouse entirely, plug a keyboard into the PS/2 port, so that no devices are using any USB ports at all, then boot into the Windows 10 login screen and see if I can sleep/hibernate/shut down.

My Ryzen 1700x PC won't shut down, not in BIOS or Win10 or Linux

Prior to running my most recent LXLE tests, I had the mouse plugged into one of the motherboard's rear panel USB 3.0 (or I guess they're called USB 3.1 5gbps now) ports. When I decided to do the Linux tests, I unplugged the mouse from the rear panel port and brought it over to the case's front...

My Ryzen 1700x PC won't shut down, not in BIOS or Win10 or Linux

Do you mean that I should turn on the PC with the 2-pin power switch cable connected to the motherboard front panel connector, but then while the PC is turned on, I should disconnect that 2-pin cable, then see if I can successfully sleep/hibernate/shut down the system? I only ask to confirm...

My Ryzen 1700x PC won't shut down, not in BIOS or Win10 or Linux

Okay, I tried. No joy. Reflash BIOS: 0805 - Current version 0612 - Version I was running when I initially started having these problems. I upgraded to 0805 to try and stop them. 0604 - Error message from Asus EZ Flash 3 Utility v03.00 - "Selected file is not a proper BIOS!" 0511 - Error...

My Ryzen 1700x PC won't shut down, not in BIOS or Win10 or Linux

No joy. I went out and bought an EVGA Supernova 650 G2. Error persists. Tried disconnecting everything in the system that I could - every USB device but keyboard and mouse, the PCI-E sound card, every SATA device, every fan except the CPU HSF. Error still persists.

My Ryzen 1700x PC won't shut down, not in BIOS or Win10 or Linux

I upgraded my PC with Ryzen components on June 17th, and everything was working fine until this last Monday or Tuesday, when I found that my PC would no longer sleep or hibernate. It would try to go into sleep or hibernate mode, and then half a second after turning out its lights and going to...

Did in-place upgrade from Windows 7 to 10. Now constant timeouts, errors, unusable

The last AHCI timeout occurred on 4/8 at 2am, the one I posted here, none since then. The errors I consistently get are: Log Name: System Source: Service Control Manager Date: 4/9/2016 3:47:59 PM Event ID: 7009 Task Category: None Level: Error...

Did in-place upgrade from Windows 7 to 10. Now constant timeouts, errors, unusable

Okay, I tried installing the latest Intel RST, and it said my platform wasn't supported. I looked up info on my chipset and found that for Intel 6-series chipsets like my P67, the latest one to use is apparently 12.9.4.1000, dated 04/24/2014, so I installed that. Asus's website has one for...

Did in-place upgrade from Windows 7 to 10. Now constant timeouts, errors, unusable

I narrowed it down some more. A clean install of Windows 10 doesn't result in the same timeout issues I experience with the upgrade install. @RampantAndroid sfc /scannow works fine after rebooting, but when Windows 10 goes crazy after I sleep or hibernate, it doesn't work anymore until the...

Did in-place upgrade from Windows 7 to 10. Now constant timeouts, errors, unusable

Okay, I think I've narrowed it down. The system basically stops working after I resume from either a hibernate or a sleep, and it's just constant timeouts. This is what happens when I try to run sfc /scannow, and my Windows Logs > System from immediately before putting the PC to sleep mode...

Did in-place upgrade from Windows 7 to 10. Now constant timeouts, errors, unusable

So I had been running Windows 7 on this system (same installation, clean installed once shortly after Win 7 launch and stayed with that since then) ever since it came out, and yesterday I made a system image to back up, then upgraded from 7 to 10. In-place upgrade, not a clean install. When...

    Bad Sectors on my SSD

I did a Secure Erase on the Sandisk 480GB SSD, then afterwards tried backing it up again, and got no bad sector errors. I purchased a 1TB Samsung 850 EVO, copied everything over to that, Secure Erased the Sandisk 480 again, and sent in an RMA request to Sandisk. Based on their reply, it seems...

    Bad Sectors on my SSD

The problem is that during those weeks when it was being shipped back to Sandisk, examined, and a replacement shipped back, I'd be without my SSD, which is my main disk, which I keep my OS and games on. I guess I'd have to migrate that data temporarily to an HDD during that time. I wonder if...

    Bad Sectors on my SSD

My SMART info and bad sector error I have a Sandisk 480GB SSD that serves as my main disk. Yesterday I was doing my weekly backup, and found that the backup failed due to bad sectors, for the first time. Then I had two BSODs, and during the second one I got a "BOOTMGR is missing" error upon...

Want to OC my Core i5 2500K for the first time, stay at stock voltage

Thank you BonzaiDuck, I deactivated C3/C6 report, and ensured that Spread Sprectrum is still activated. I am not sure that I should set the offset from -0.090v back to 0v, because then my load core voltage would get too high and my temps would be very high. I find that with offset at -0.090v...

Want to OC my Core i5 2500K for the first time, stay at stock voltage

That guide looks excellent. I read it, and then applied the settings it lists in the guide. I got up to 41x turbo multiplier at manual 1.2v, then got a BSOD 0x101, then retried with 40x turbo multiplier, and was stable at Prime 95 Custom 1344 15 minutes, then Custom 1792 15 minutes, reaching...

Want to OC my Core i5 2500K for the first time, stay at stock voltage

Borealis7, What does Core Temp show that your VID, Power usage, and max temp are at full load (in LinX) on your 2500K that is @ 4.4 with stock volts? And what does CPU-Z show for your Core Voltage? Yuriman, okay, I'll try the negative offset next. But wouldn't that negative offset also apply...

Want to OC my Core i5 2500K for the first time, stay at stock voltage

Okay, I tried setting Turbo to 40x then running LinX 5 passes. Holy crap, power usage skyrocketed, and my core voltage went all the way up to 1.37v in Core Temp. Somehow the motherboard is still tapping into some extra voltage when I try and OC it. I'll take screens of my latest BIOS config...

I have 8GB memory. I want 16GB. Do the new DIMMs have to be identical to the old?

I have 2x4GB (8GB) DDR-1333 memory. I want to add in another 2x4GB to get to 16GB, because I'm starting to brush up against 8GB, and memory is cheap right now. Can I go with this $30 DDR3-1600 8GB kit, or do I have to buy the exact same 8GB DDR-1333 kit again, making all 4 modules identical...

Want to OC my Core i5 2500K for the first time, stay at stock voltage

Okay, I went into my BIOS and snapped pictures of all the screens that relate to overclocking that I'm aware of. After that, I updated my BIOS to the latest version, 3602, and re-shot the bottom of the AI Tweaker page with the new BIOS. All the other screens remained pretty much the same with...

Want to OC my Core i5 2500K for the first time, stay at stock voltage

I bought a Core i5 2500K and Asus P8P67 Pro back in February of 2011 and never got around to overclocking it. I'd like to finally give that a try, but it would be nice if I could keep the power saving features active so that it would downclock/downvolt when idle, as usual. I'd just like to see...

overclocking sandy bridge? what's the best way?

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to use "Maximum Turbo Ratio setting in BIOS" or "Maximum Turbo Ratio setting in OS", I assume BIOS. But then, if I set the turbo multiplier for a mild overclock, say 40 or 42, the auto cpu vcore voltage will probably boost it too high, which I don't want, I want...

overclocking sandy bridge? what's the best way?

Because at a $10 premium over the regular 2500, I see no need to agonize over whether to go K or non-K. And I bought this 2500K + P8P67 Pro bundle for $360 at Micro Center, and I doubt they had a $350 bundle for a regular 2500 and P8P67 Pro. And it's possible that a 2500K would OC to a higher...

overclocking sandy bridge? what's the best way?

I'm also using the P8P67 Pro and would like to overclock, but I don't want to go over the stock voltage. It seems that there are a ton of ways to overclock on this board. How do I simply increase the turbo multiplier as high as it will stably go on stock voltage?
