My modem is showing 2688 Kbps / 864 Kbps. I live in an urban center. I can definitely try calling Verizon, but if the problem persists I fear they'll give the run-around.
Connected direct, experiencing intermittent disconnects. I had contacted Verizon with this problem before and they sent me a new modem. Should I get back in touch with them or am I better of switching to Comcast?
The disconnects are very intermittent, so it's hard to test for what's going on. I had one happen a few minutes when my wireless house phone rang, but I'm not using a wireless connection for my PC. I'm not downloading any torrents at all. Got 2 pcs and my Iphone on the network.
I'm not sure...
I'm using a 1-year old Linksys WRT110 with a Verizon residential DSL setup, using ethernet only at this time. I experience intermittent disconnects, where I end up disconnecting and reconnecting the power cable to get back online. I can't figure out if it's my router or the ISP that's the...
Thanks. Had to dig around but wasn't hard to find. The exact option was "Enable USB Keyboard". Strange thing is that keyboard worked to get into the BIOS (Del), but I'm sure there's a standard reason for that which I'm not aware of.
Hello.
Trying to install Win 7. Bios set to boot from CD drive first. Startup asks to hit key to boot off cd. I can't hit key and computer boots into existing install on HD.
Looks like it doesn't like my USB keyboard, and I don't have a USB one laying around. Workarounds?
Thank you.
Hi there. I'm completely new to hackintoshing, and I'm just idly wondering if the Shuttle XPC SX58H7 is a possible hackintosh, and if anyone has attempted to hack it. I know that it's quite possibly incompatible, and more than likely untested, but it makes for an interesting dream. :)
For...
Hello. I have a bit of a weird issue with my computer, and I'll try give the backstory to be clear on what happened.
I had an old IDE HD with a XP install. I bought a new Velociraptor HD, and put Windows 7 beta 64 bit on it. For some reason, the HD with the Windows 7 install wasn't a...
Thanks for your reply. Looks like I'll try the USB stick method. Off to Staples!
Mizugori - The problem for me is that my current OS is 32 bit, and the installer for Windows 7 is 64 bit.
I've downloaded the Windows 7 64-bit version with the hopes of mounting the ISO with Daemon Tools and installing it on an empty partition. It appears that because my current operating system is 32 bit, I can't run the installer in windows. Is there any way of installing Win 7 without buying a...
Within the next 1 or 2 months Apple should have all new Macbooks and MBP's, which should be significant improvement if you can wait that long. If you can't wait that long, the basic is probably fine, although you might want to check them out in store to figure out if you want a matte or glossy...
I have an EVGA 133-K8-NF41-AX motherboard. When I used a bootable cd (Bart PE) I was able to use both the mouse and keyboard fine (PS/2).
Currently I'm using this machine with a new HD and a fresh install of windows, with full mouse and keyboard support. I can access all data on my old HD...
My HD is fine, and I'm wondering how the utility above can help me in my situation. Is it at all similar to Bart PE? I downloaded and burned it, but wasn't sure what to do with it after I used it to book.
Thanks again for keeping up with me...

There doesn't seem to be an Repair option on the CD, and I did get an error mesage about a missing NETUPGRD.DLL. There is a Transfer files and setting option. Can I use it to pull all my data from the old partition? Ideally I'd like to be able to recover the old drive though. Thanks for your...
Well, I've installed a second drive and installed a fresh copy of Windows on that. Now I have access to my old Windows install. Is there any way for me to go in there and overwrite a few files?
Thanks for the reply. When I boot of my Win XP Pro CD I have the option to set up Windows XP, and option to creat a partition, and an option to delete a partion. T do have two partitions already, with windows on one of them. The option to repair ins't there..
I guess it's not detecting the...
Thanks for your replies, everyone. I have downloaded Bart PE as suggested, but I'm having trouble getting networking up and running. Also I don't know how to access my files from there, and not sure how to either fix the corrupted files or to be able to extract and back up data. At this point...
I've thought of that possibility.. If that is the case I will need to get my hands on the data on the drive. And getting my first Mac... kneejerk style. I have a feeling that there's some kind of tedious work around for this...
I purchased a Microsoft Wireless Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000 (mouse keyboard combo) and the installation process didn't work. The intellipoint software also erased any support for my previous hardware, a Logitech MX518 and a generic usb keyboard. Even a PS/2 mouse and keyboard doesn't work...
Thanks hendrix. I guess that is how I understood your answer. What I'm trying to do is basically be able to have output both on my speakers and on my headset. I currently have it plugged into my front audio port in the front of the case, so as a result I can just turn off my speakers and put...
My vision isn't quite bad enough to warrant extreme solutions like projectors or hdtvs. A 19" pretty close to my face is all the field of vision I can handle :).
Thanks boglwe, I'll look that up. I was at the store today, and I looked at an Imac and it seemed to hande it better, things were readable even at high res. Too bad I like to play games once in a while.
Thanks bogiwe. A lot of the Windows solutions are pretty lame in the they make some text large and some stays smalls, layout starts looking mismatched and ugly. All I ever wanted was a bigger monitor so that I could see things better, but unfortunately it isn't so simple. Maybe there are some...
I'm looking for a new headset for gaming and music, and I'm wondering if I'd be able to use a USB headset the same way as my current 3.5mm setup. I basically have my 5.1 speakers plugged into the back of the comp, and the 3.5 headset into the i/o jacks on the front of the case. That way I can...
Hello all.
I currently use Win XP with a 19" 4:3 LCD monitor, with a 1280x1024 native res. However, I run the monitor at 1024x768 because otherwise everything on the screen is just too small. I also have Large Fonts turned on in the Display >> Appearance settings, but that only pretty much...
These are all the processors still available for my socket:

I don't know much about Opterons other than that they are for servers, and I haven't been able to find any benchmark comparisons for them. Maybe there are faster socket 939...

One word of caution, even though I'm not an expert on this. The trouble with opening credit accounts like this is that having too many accounts, or closing too many accounts can hold back your credit score.
I just bought a second, identical 1GB stick of ram, and I'm wondering if it's running in dual channel. How can I tell if it is or isn't, or what else do I need to do?
How is spending that much on a hunk of metal justifiable? :scratches head: If you go with stock cooling you can throw the extra 50 at a better cpu, video card, or anything that would tangibly improve your computer's performance. Or is looking at the shiny copper fan through your windowed case...
