    Desktop Icons suddenly disappear

Do you have Infrarecorder installed on both of your computers? If so that is most likely the culprit. Try uninstalling it and see if that helps, there are other free CD burners out there which do not have these issues.

    2nd Hard Drive in Laptop

I just did exactly this on my Lenovo G570 laptop, it was as Corkyg said very simple. I picked up the caddy on ebay for under $10. (I have seen them go for as much as 45 to 50 dollars elsewhere.) The hardest part was transferring the bracket that holds the set screw from the optical drive to the...

    Desktop won't boot

I strongly suggest you check the dimensions on the PSU you are replacing, dells tend to be very proprietary and matching 3rd party hardware that will fit into their cases is tricky. I've had some very unpleasant experiences servicing some of my clients Dells while replacing hardware. Especially...

Migrating contents of system drive (including WIN 7)

I did this when I upgraded my Win 7 laptop from an HDD to an SSD. I just used the free home edition of Easus Todo backup. I cloned the HDD onto the SDD before I physically installed it into the laptop and I was up and running in about 1 hour.

    PCI driver help

Looks to me like the devices plugged into the PCI ports are missing their drivers, not the ports themselves. Your dell cannot recognize those devices and therefore lists them in device manager as "other devices". You need to go to the manufacturers website and download and install the latest...

    Lexmark 2400 driver

When I googled it, one of the first hits was the S2450 which is the laser version, and yes Lexmark confuses things with their model numbering. In any event the 2400 is a very old printer in the Lexmark line and is not supported in Windows 7. If you recall when Vista first came out hardware...

    Lexmark 2400 driver

The Lexmark 2400 is not even listed in the Windows 7 hardware compatibility list so I doubt there is a driver out there for it. And I agree with you on those driver installers from third party website, I avoid them at all costs as they are just a way of adding adware and malware to your...

    Firewire question

From what I have read in the past there is no way of adding a firewire port to a laptop that has no pcmi port. There is however a solution, a company called Pinnacle makes a product which connects to a computer through a USB port. It has various inputs including audio and firewire.

pc shutting on and off rapidly

System timer failure can usually be fixed by replacing the CMOS battery, what concerns me is the memory slot that is now unusable due to improperly seating the memory stick, it maybe that the mobo now needs to be replaced.

    need some help for explaning

Is it me or doesn't this sound like a hardware issue? What does it have to do with the OS? Did you open up the laptop to check if the keyboard connection is firmly in place? Was any liquid spilled on the keyboard? It just seems to me that these are the first steps to consider before assuming the...

I want to make my pc a dvr... Do I have enough?

I am sorry to say with that system you will more than likely be terribly disappointed. The processor is way to slow. the video card memory is bare minimum so you will get choppy streaming and the system memory needs to be at least 4Gb. Do some research, tom's hardware is a great website that...

A small metal object inside my chassis.

The "small metal", are you referring to the two fork like extensions? If so could the material be solder used to attach the pin (as Bubba suggester) to the mobo? It may just be an extra pin left there during the manufacturing process and jarred loose by the compressed air. If you are not having...

A small metal object inside my chassis.

Not sure what it is but I'll tell you what it kinda looks like part of or all of the retention clip that holds the CMOS battery in place, check that first, after that good luck! And be very careful with those cans of compressed air.

Since you can boot up using safe mode, go ahead and do that again, then use system restore and choose a restore point prior to when this error started, If that fails or you have no restore points, try using "Advanced Boot Options" in the Windows 7 by hitting the F8 key just as or just before the...

    Booting from external harddrive?

You could purchase a hard drive caddy where you mount the original windows 8 HDD, it then fits into the optical drive slot and you will essentially have a dual hdd laptop and you can then choose which drive you want to boot from. The only draw back is you will loose the ability to play dvds etc...
