Microsoft support online chat provided me with a link to downlaod Win7. I trusted it since MS gave me the link but I verified the hash just to be safe. The earlier post about the hashes listed them, but I found them on the MSDN site just to be sure.
I'll give it a shot if my other thread doesn't pan out. The bad thing is that even if it all goes my way, it is still going to be a massive pain in the rear.
Thanks,

We shall see I guess. I had already burned a DVD with the ei.cfg file modified from OEM to Retail. I was trying to figure other options because even if doing this will allow a Retail key, will it allow a Retail Upgrade key instead of a Retail Full veersion key?
I'm going to work on it in...
I own a legal, never used copy of the homepremium upgrade. My version is pre-SP1, I want to download the SP1 version to minimize problems with Windows Update.
As has happened with other people, according to the help forums at Microsoft, when I enter my key (English, US Only version) the site...
Microsoft has a Win7 .iso download page here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7
It requires you to enter your key to validate which version you can download, but it is broken and offers some people the wrong languages. My US Only English version only offers me...
I built the machine. There are no Win10 drivers for the mobo on the Asus support site.
I think the machine is too old to boot from USB, but I'll have to investigate that when I can. But removing ei.cfg would just present the choice of different OEM versions, it still wouldn't allow you to...
From what I understand, you can't install from OEM and then activate with the key from the Upgrade version. The OEM disc is for PC I'm about to build.
The PC I'm about to upgrade has an Asus mobo for which there are no Win 10 drivers, 8.1 were the last. Also, it belongs to parents and I...
I've got the original upgrade version which is going on an older XP machine. The OEM disc is for a yet to be built system.
I know how to do a clean install with the upgrade disc, but I wondered if there was some way to slipstream the SP1 part from the OEM disc with the upgrade disc. But...
The upgrade disc I have is what you got when Win7 was first released, it was actually a preorder.
I've seen some reports of windows update problems occuring, but nothing really specific. I'd appreciate any tips anyone has to help me avoid problems doing this.
I should also mention that I...
No servers. I7-4770k, gtx 970, 3 or 4 case fans plus cpu cooler, 1 ssd, 3 hard drives.
I've been looking at the cyberpower pfc true sine wave series, but I'm open to others. I'm wondering if the 1500va unit is worth $40+ more than the 1350va unit in my case.
I turn off my pc when I'm not...
I assume the APC units have fans, do they run all the time or just when the unit is on battery power? How loud are the fans? I'm trying to build a quiet pc which will be moot if the UPS has a loud fan.
I'm building a system with a Seasonic Platinum rated power supply and I'm wondering how a UPS with a simulated sine wave output will affect it, if at all?

I found a review that showed the 770 also has a backplate to "prevent flexing and sagging". The comments I saw about it before linked to an article that showed pictures of a build using the 770. One of the comments in that article was "Is it just me, or is that video card sagging"? So even...
I was thinking of getting an Asus gtx 770, but I saw a few references to the card sagging when installed. Is this a common problem with the current crop of higher end cards with larger coolers or is it an Asus problem or just this card?
I don't recall seeing this mentioned in any reviews...
Boot drive will be SSD. I've got two WD Green drives for archival storage and am going to add another HDD as a working drive for things that you might not want on the SSD.
How are the drives advertised as NAS drives different from drives like the WD Black? Can the NAS drives be used as a standard desktop drive or is there some reason it shouldn't?
Thanks

The new sticks are in no way similar. I'm not sure how the originals were set up. I'll just go into the bios and set it to auto and then adjust if necessary. I just didn't want to get into a situation where the machine wouldn't boot.

From the Haswell memory scaling artical here at AT:
I wouldn't pay a premium for it, but a current deal makes it a little cheaper or at least on par with ram that is a bit slower. The article mentioned the 2400 so I was just wondering if the 1.65V would make it less desirable, but I guess if...
I'm going to build a system with an I7-4770K and most likely an Asus Z87-Pro mobo.
Is there any down side to using DDR3 2400 1.65V ram vs something slower running at the standard 1.5V ?
All 2400 on Newegg is 1.65V . Does 1.65V cause any longevity or stability problems?

Asus M4A785TD-V EVO mobo w/ AMD Athlon II X4 630 Propus CPU
Amd 785G chipset, Win7 64bit
The Asus website shows AMD VGA Driver V8.660.0.0 dated 11/2009 with a size of 326.69MB.
If I goto the AMD website and search drivers for Integrated Motherboard Graphics for the 7 series chipset...
I need to add memory to my parent's pc before upgrading the OS.
Mobo: M4A785TD-V EVO
Memory: (KINGSTON) 2x1GB KVR1333D3N9K2/2G (1333MHZ, 1.5V, CL9)
I wanted to add another kit like it has but it is discontinued. Which memory specs need to match precisely? Will a 1600/1.5/CL9 kit work...
I have the discs, so the only advantage downloading the ISO was to cut down on the updates. I wonder if those ISO files on Digital River contain any of the post SP1 updates? Good to know the upgrade keys work on the ISO files.
Thanks
I read that to make a slipstreamed Win7 install disc, you have to have to do it on a PC that has Win7 installed on it. Unfortunately, I don't have access to one of those.

I think that was one of the ways to do a clean install with the upgrade disc. From what I've read, the keys for the OEM version and the upgrade/full versions are not interchangeable.
I didn't want to waste time downloading the ISO if I couldn't activate it with the key from my upgrade disc.
Does anyone know if the Windows 7 SP1 ISO files that are available at digitalriver will activate with an upgrade key or do they require an OEM key?
I've got the original Win7 Home Premium Upgrade discs from when it was first released. I want to download the SP1 ISO so I don't have to...
For me, the new system will always be connected to the router by cable. The only thing I can think of that might be of use is if you can do something along the line of Widi or something similar.
Thinking for purchasing an Asus Z87-Pro mobo. What would I use the built-in wifi for? I've got a router and the system with the Z87-Pro would be attached to the router by cable.
Thanks,
BGC
I have an upgrade DVD that I will do a clean install with when I build the new system. My current system runs XP so that my prevent me from making bootable usb sticks.
Do you or don't you have to make changes in the bios of a new Z87 board to install Win 7? How or why does having a UEFI bios change Windows installation?
Thanks,
BGC
