    Stock Options

Until the recent FASB changes, stock options were not dealt with as an expense on the income statement. They were reflected in dilited EPS and other measures. I don't see how expensing stock options accurately reflects their impact on a company. Assuming: First, no company assets are...

    Liberalism

From another thread, I thought I would burst someone's bubble. Democrats are only socially, not economically liberal. They have even less respect for property rights than republicans do.

    Happy Birthday!

To one of the greatest gentlemen in this country's history. I will share my favorite quote: "Do your duty in all things. You cannot do more, you should never wish to do less." -Posted in P&N because it degenerates into flames every year.

    Bush linking Iraq to 9/11?

It was mentioned in another thread, but I didn't want to pollute it with too much discussion. When did Bush claim Iraq was involved in 9/11? I haven't seen anything where he said that made a claim, but some posters are convinced he did. Can anyone help me out with a quote?

    Social Security Reform

Right now, it's apparent that someone will get the short end of the proverbial stick with social security. Right now, it looks like my generation. If we make significant changes, it may be seniors. Every plan irritates some group. So the question is, if you had to choose a generation to...

    Nice hypocrisy

They don't want them counted if someone voted for Dino Rossi. From today's seattle times. Basically, the democrats are saying they want every vote counted, but are going around and only telling people who voted for Christine Gregoire how to get their vote to count.

    Where's the UN now?

Linky. Do you think the French should have UNSC approval for this?

My idea for the electoral college.

I think we all agree that the electoral college has some problems. What do you think of splitting electoral votes the same way they are allotted? Whoever wins a state gets 2 votes for the state, plus one per congressional district (like how votes are distributed in Maine and Nebraska).

    Where is John Kerry's SOX?

I want this to be a discussion of John Kerry's leadership qualities. I know every other reply to this thread will be "bush is satan," but I'm hoping we'll hit the one in a million thread where it doesn't happen. When the democrats were deciding on a candidate, I was looking for two things 1)...

    Dems vs. Reps

I see a claim at least once a week that democrats are more educated than republicans. I certainly won't dispute this as our universities attract democrats as educators (while private business attracts repubs). I have never seen a discussion as to the propensity to commit crime. Has anyone...

    Patriot Act

Follow me a bit here. First Kerry votes for it, then Bush signs it into law and enforces it. How is Bush the bad guy and Kerry the good guy over this bit of legislation? I can see two explanations: 1) Kerry suckered the dems into believing he's really opposed to the Patriot Act, when he...

    Tax Cuts

This was a quote from another thread. I see one fundamental flaw in it. It presupposes that tax dollars belong to the government and cutting taxes is the government doing a citizen a favor. I think of tax cuts as allowing a citizen to keep what he rightfully earned.

    Election Trivia

What is the minimum number of votes constitutionally required for someone to be elected president, given the current electoral college allocation and excluding faithless electors.

    Assault Weapons Ban

The AWB came up in another thread, so I thought I'd start a little discussion about what the AWB actually does. Do you know what weapons it bans? Well, if it has the following characteristics AND a removeable magazine. Nearly all of these characteristics either have a legitimate use, do not...

    Question for the dems

Moreso than ever, this upcoming election seems to put all their proverbial eggs in the same basket. Democrats seem to be dependent on americans "losing" to win this election. Does anyone else get the nasty feeling with them basing their campaigns on this?
