I feel like the emphasis of this post is wrong. The fact that she sped to 107mph for the purposes of taking a snapchat is the first emphasis. The fact that she took a snapchat while in the ambulance is... I really wonder how this meeting at snapchat HQ took place. They okay'd a filter that...

Clifton NJ cop brake checks driver then writes him tickets. Driver had a dash camera.

Speaking from experience or speculation? I'd hope that there's some accountability for cops when they do things like this. It can't hurt to drop by the PD and file a complaint as well as contest the ticket. Allowing cops to have free rein over civilians with no possible recourse really...

8 of your moms? It's a bit of an overreaction. The comment was innocuous and not directed albeit immature. It's like hearing a dad joke at the worst moment. Sometimes its timed so badly that the situation makes it funny.

    Amazon shipping time

Shortsighted to compare modern day costco to oligopoly Costco. (See Idiocracy) You can trust a publicly traded company to always do what's best for the consumer, I'll place my trust in competition.

    Amazon shipping time

Yes that is how Amazon operates now. They know exactly how long it takes to get an item to you via UPS. If you don't have prime, the delivery timeframe is larger and they will aim for the actual date that shows on the order. Nothing really wrong with it since they do show almost as soon as...

    Tow procedures or rules?

Just out of curiosity, is anyone familiar with how tow truck operators are allowed to tow cars? I was just thinking about a year or two back when I had my car towed. It was a street in front of where I lived. They placed 'no parking' signs on the entire block for a timespan of about three...

    What happened to Ebay?

Craigslist for popular consumer products such as cell phones, game consoles, PCs, random electronics. Ebay for harder to find items and retired enterprise IT equipment. Seriously though, if you don'd mind last gen hardware, you can score some sweet deals. $1000 aruba N access points are going...

My first dashcam footage - some a-holes on the highway

Based on the responses I've seen here for several videos, I don't think anyone here actually know what tailgating is. There's some malice intent associated with tailgating. The OP just happened to get close since the rest of traffic was moving faster but he was blocked from the right lane by a...

2017 Ford Fusion skips over potholes

Hope it uses sonar to detect potholes or something. Otherwise I see this as something that could detect false positives and seriously compromise handling since we just took the drive wheel off the road. Also depends on the length of the pothole. This only works for small pot holes. If a large...

I was anticipating this yet it still surprises me - Dashcam

Even at the risk of being T-boned? Video never actually captures the amount of acceleration or braking correctly. I've recorded emergency braking instances and it looks very timid in comparison to sitting in the car. Point is, this looks more tame than it actually was. In the video, I was...

    ECS NM70-I2(1.0) Intel Celeron 1037U CPU/VGA/mobo $54.99+$1.99 ship-$25 MIR @Newegg

1743 Passmark score. I think in general people are overestimating how much processing power is needed to transcode. I bet that this configuration with a bare metal ubuntu server install and proper cooling for the CPU should be able to handle a 4k stream. I run a 1045T at stock speeds with a...

    Visual Turing test

Not what I was saying at all. All the computer generated art starts with a base image, most likely something that you would see on google image search. Then it applies a predefined style to mimic art. That means if it looks like the base image is something you can find on an image search, that...

    Visual Turing test

10/10. Just think of what images you can find on a google image search. Most of the PC generated ones lack something that I can't quite put my finger on. Human drawn images lacked a certain realism since it isn't generated from a photograph. (Image set 7)

Tech Purchases You Feel Guilty About?

I just dropped ~$530 on upgrading my server. Kept the main components but bought 12TB of storage to expand it. I also opted to upgrade the memory while I was at it to support more virtual machines. I ended up ordering so many extra parts to make it work. (Most were forseen but not all) It's...

Or just software jbod them together. Im not sure if he actually needed the speed or if he just wanted to see how much speed he could get. Theres videos of his company trying to max out 10gb ethernet for kicks and giggles. (Although he claims the speed is needed) All in all, if he is on the...

Well it does provide redundancy even with a striped software array. It is a weird set up but assuming the only potential issue is one failed drive per hardware array, it works in theory. He was screwed by the motherboard instead of the actual raid setup this time. His raid config didn't...

I love my new Computer Speaker setup

Congrats on the setup but don't think for a second that the subwoofer + D class amp crammed into that enclosure can outperform any home theater receiver in clarify or loudness. $30k PC with 7 GPUs can play Crysis

Yeah, I don't think anyone is in the business of making such malware. The logistics is insane to try to spread a virus to the hypervisor. You would have to deconstruct the VM file system as well as the guest file system then hope that the hypervisor actually has a vulnerability that lets you run...

    Let's revisit grounding a car

I didn't tap into anything. It was more along the lines of Transmission chassis to battery and engine chassis to battery connections. What about the throttle body motor? Does that ground to the TB instead of to the ECU? If there is less resistance for that circuit, it would actuate quicker...

    Let's revisit grounding a car

Thanks, this has some good information that I did not know. You're saying every TPS for every car is grounded at the ECU? Wire directly to ECU? That would make sense to me. Now, I'm fairly ignorant at this point, but why do we need a TPS when the throttle is now controlled by the ECU? We...

    Let's revisit grounding a car

    Let's revisit grounding a car

There we go. Now we're talking some logic and some real reasoning. True. I cannot deny that the ECU was reset and may have made a difference that I felt more than any grounding. My interesting calculation on how much it costs to drive

Really depends on where you live and how much you enjoy driving. Where I am, I am lucky that I don't have to pay for a parking spot yet there is a bar downstairs in my building. The amount of benefit in that case is drastically different than if I lived in Montana or something.

    Let's revisit grounding a car

I heard about car grounding perhaps a month ago. First thoughts that rushed into my head is that it is a pointless exercise since the positive cables are not upgraded. Looking more into it, it seems to be a polarizing subject in that people either swear by it or they say it does nothing...

My interesting calculation on how much it costs to drive

Are you calculating depreciation into the equation for mileage? I tried to do that but it seems that the formula to include mileage into depreciation is rather difficult. Most of it is based on age of the car instead of miles unless you go overboard with 45k a year or something.

My interesting calculation on how much it costs to drive

There's a tab #2 with the cost of everything. Edit: the figures seem right to me. $1015 (not including depreciation) base per year just to own the car then $0.23 per mile driven on top of that.

Humans Are Slamming Into Driverless Cars and Exposing a Key Flaw

A bit unrelated but I can totally see how there needs to be more algorithms to match how a human would drive. I remember one day while driving around a slight bend this car pulls out in front of me while I was going probably 45. I had the choice of slamming the brakes and potentially lose...

Drivers: Don't always be so nice

So here's thing thing about this situation. It's not about people being nice, it's about people taking advantage of society. In the adult world, something like cutting someone off or tailgating to prevent people from getting in a spot can easily lead to talking to the police and dealing with...

    What happened to my car?

Yes both fuses were fine. If I had to guess, I misseated the fuse tap to the fusebox and only the positive end was making contact. The ACC circuit was broken in that case but it powered the dashcam fine since the dashcam had it's own ground path. Reading up on fuse taps, there's actually...

    What happened to my car?

Update: I had a chance to finally mess around with it after work in the daylight. I pulled out ACC fuse that had a fuse tap in it, reset both fuses since both fuses were fine (my mistake there). Popped the fuse tap back in and everything is fine now. Radio prompted for the radio code which...
