I have two Synology NAS systems and I use them for my Time Machine backups for three MAC systems and they work great. I actually have it set up so that the Macs alternate between the two NAS systems on each backup. Very slick. If you already have the Synology you need to enable the Time...
My Mini and my MBP are both new so this will be my first upgrade to them. I am just going to upgrade the OS rather then do a clean install because of how simple and easy I anticipate it to be. If I had owned these for a while I would probably go the clean install route.
I have used many. I thought that the Buffalo was the best until I got a Synology. I have a 212+ and a 712+ with WD Red drives in them. Can't beat these NAS units. Yes they are a bit pricy but when I stopped to figure what I have on these drives it's well worth the expense.
I thought that the Red was best for a RAID system only and that there would be no tangible benefit to having Red over green in a single drive scenario?
I use Synology in my home and could not be happier. The user interface is super easy to use and the features are excellent. I never tried the QNAP but can't imagine being any happier than I am with the Synology box. I have two 212+ and a 712+ and I use the Western Digital Red 3TB drives in them.
I have 2 Air Port Extremes sitting here on the floor because they just flat do not work in my environment. I have two Linksys boxes that work great. YMMV.
Stay away from 16 port switches that do not have fans. When a 16 port switch is fully loaded the heat that is generated can over time cause the unit to fail. I had a Netgear 16 port switch fail because of the heat and replaced it with a 24 port Netgear switch with a fan and the unit runs very...
The OP is corrct though. His question is about how to deal with his Cable Company. It is unlikley that he will get someone knowledgable enough to help him on the first try. You guys are all trying to fix his problem without understanding the question. His question is how do I deal with my...
Acronis is the way to go. They have a cloning feature that I have used many times without any adverse effects. Just bear in mind that Win7 and Office will have to be reactivated but that should not be a big issue for you.
I don't think the sparks came from the PS. I think that the compressed air somehow caused the problem to occur but for the life of me I can explain why.
Last night I took a computer out of my equipment closet so I could install Ubuntu 11.10 on it. I opened it up to make sure that everything was there and used some compressed air to blow out the dust. I plugged it in and sparks flew. There was a series of sparks and loud pops and the smell of...
For me it was my ATI drivers that had been uninstalled by Drive Sweeper. I followed the instructions I found here and re-installed Drive Sweeper and restored the backup of the deleted files and then SP1 installed with no issues. Of course after that I had to uninstall and reinstall my Catalyst...
It's the Airport. I had two of them and they randomly dropped wireless connections all the time and had to be rebooted. I finally gave up and replaced them with Linksys E3000s and have not had a single issue since. In my opinion the Airport Extreme is a POS. I want to sell the two I have but...
I have two Airport Extreme routers sitting here on the floor. They would frequently drop connections and need to be rebooted. I never got more than a week out of one without having to reboot it. In my mind it's a POS. I bought two E3000's and put DD-WRT on them and have forgotten I even have...
So basically you are saying that you read it therefor it's true. Have you used DD-WRT? Probably not. I use it every day. I am running it on two Linksys routers in my home. I saw an increase in wireless speed vs. the stock firmware and the stability is excellent. Before you critize...
I actually saw an increase in performance when I did my E3000. I don't know why a performance hit is being suggested here. I now have two wireless routers running the software and have not had to reboot ever. Very stable. Very recommended. Follow the directions carefully and exactly. Do...
Better idea is to clone your primary computer's HD over to the old drive and have it sit there on the side in case something happens to the main. I do this once a month or so and then if my primary ever fails I can just pop in the old drive and I am up and running again in a few minutes while I...
You are right. The size is an issue. I don't get significantly better numbers but the cooler is so quiet that it more than makes up for it. The memory is just too damn close to the CPU socket. Just say a note about a new cooler from Thermalright that uses only one of the same fans on the...
I had an issue getting my Crucial C300 to run on the Marvel Sata III controller. I tried two different C300s and could not get them to run. The BIOS saw them okay but Windows would not work either from a clone or a clean install. On the clean install the installation would fail every time. On...
My vote would be for the P6X58D Premium. I have seen too many bad posts regarding the Rampage. I had a Rampage III Formula and returned it for the P6X58D Premium because of all the issues I had with the formula. No board is perfect and you didn't say what you would be using it for but in my...
How come no one asked him about the ambient temp in the room? I find that my CPU at idle temp is highly dependant on the room temp. When my room temps are at 72F my CPU is at 39C. When my room temps creep up in summer my CPU is about 43C. Plus the software that you use to measure the temp...
If theMarvell SATA III controller is set to on in the BIOS he will most definetly see it when he boots. It happens after the standard IDE and SATA ports boot. When it boots it tells the name of the drive and the mode it is booting in.
Yes, you can set the Marvell SATA III ports to ACHI...
Guys he says that he does not see the C300 in the BIOS when the computer boots. How will loading the driver when doing the install help?
Have you tried a different cable? There is a specific cable to use with the SATA III ports. Once you get the BIOS to see the drive you should be okay.
I have used the latest version of Acronis to clone at least three drives in the last two weeks and alignment was maintained. If Acronis broke alignment it was in an earlier version that what is current today.
I was using the fans that came with each unit. I also tried some Scythe low noise fans but the fans that come with the Silver Arrow are the most quiet. To be fair I also stopped using the Corsair Airflow memory cooling fans. They made way too much noise.
This board ended up being a bust for me. I returned it yesterday and got a P6X58D Premium. I had two different Rampage III Formula boards and both had issues with Crucial C300 SSDs. Over at the ASUS Forums there are other with issues getting the C300 to work with the RIIIF. I never could get it...
I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking about trying this on another system. You just need the brackets to secure the fan. It's not going in that fan holder on the Venomous.
So now I have two of these on two different macines and I have to say I love them. They really do the job of cooling the CPU and are extremely quiet. Sometimes I have to put my ear to the machine to verify it is running. I can't get over how quite the machine has gotten. The only drawback...
Some people just like to own the best. You can't condem someone for that. Maybe he got a smokin' hot deal for one or maybe he's got a boat load of money to spend. No matter it is what it is.
In any case my favorite board on this class is the P6X58D Premium. You asked for a recommendation...
I am making some changes to my system and don't want to reinstall Windows 7 64 bit. So I had Windows running with 2 drives in a RAID 0 set up. Now I want to run with just one drive configured as AHCI. I cloned the RAID drives over to a single SSD and changed the BIOS to AHCI and rebooted but...
