Upgrading my Workstation with 5930K, Upgrading Gaming Rig with Parts from Workstation

That is true, but I've had some bad experiences with AMD. I've had more cards last longer with NVidia, and drivers have been more stable and consistent, and with the exception of the 470, they normally run cooler. I'd rather pay a premium for a card I'm confident will run cool and stable, than a...

Upgrading my Workstation with 5930K, Upgrading Gaming Rig with Parts from Workstation

Yeah, I do. Last time I didn't want to go lower than an X70 card it was the 670 before the 660 and 660Ti came out, and they are all very close in performance. Only difference is the 660Ti ended up $100 less expensive when it came out. It's supposed to be coming out soon, so we'll see. If it...

Upgrading my Workstation with 5930K, Upgrading Gaming Rig with Parts from Workstation

It was between the 4790k for $120, or the 5930k for $200. I wish it would have been the 5960X for a bit more, but hey, when you're basically getting 60% off a good sale price on an expensive processor, you can't complain too much ;) While that is a great price, I play on the green team. Might...

Upgrading my Workstation with 5930K, Upgrading Gaming Rig with Parts from Workstation

I have the same one. So I'm just going to take the chipset and the case and swapping some parts. As for the budget. I spent $200 on the i7, but that ain't part of the $800 budget. The $800 max is for Mobo, RAM, and any cooling I need if I get the closed loop water cooler.

Upgrading my Workstation with 5930K, Upgrading Gaming Rig with Parts from Workstation

I have 2 builds I'm looking to improve and swap parts between, and I'm also looking to get some new parts that are needed with the new Processor. Feel free to check their specs in my sig. The main reason I'm pulling the trigger is I recently moved up to gaming on a 2560 x 1440 monitor, and it is...

HDTV Tuner for Amazon Basics 50ft/35ft Antenna and Other Questions

HDTV Tuner for Amazon Basics 50ft/35ft Antenna and Other Questions

I've been trying to find information regarding what will be needed to record HDTV from an Antenna, and what towers in my area broadcast an HD signal. I've been to TVFool.com and many others, but none specify what quality and resolution they broadcast in. Also, are the TV channels Encoded/...

Strange Backlight Glow On LCD/LED Panel

Nah, not that I know of. Maybe if it is plugged into a battery backup? It's coming through the power outlet for sure, because when I unplug it the light goes away after about a minute or so. Cool video by the way!

    RAM question

Yup, Just like Ripjaws X and Z Value Memory from G.SKill has always been a solid cheap choice for me, but it may or may not be in the future. Processors are being made to take advantage of better RAM these days. So cheeping out may not be a good option anymore.

New Desktop PC or New smartphone?

Fanboyery aside on the phone discussion, what will you be using the computer for beyond what you use your current one for? 32GB RAM and a R9 270 seems excessive to an extreme for someone with basic usage. What games will you be playing, and what new software will you use?

Need advice on new NAS build

I run ZFS on a AMD C60 with 8TB (2 x 4TB Red Drives) on 4GB RAM. It transfers at ~80MB/S most of the time, and can stream 8GB-12GB HD Video Files to 2-3 computers at a time. Might even be able to do better, but that's the most stress I've ever put it under. By the way, it's cheapo G.SKill...

Strange Backlight Glow On LCD/LED Panel

I recently acquired a Dell P1913 for a secondary portrait display. I like it without a doubt, but it has a VERY dim glow that isn't even noticeable from across a pitch dark room, and even the light from my mouse brightens the room enough to snuff it out. Only when you're straight on at about 5'...

Power Supply is Clicking and Grinding

I don't know if it's the fan or not, but I'm pretty sure it's not, unless it only spins when something is loading or I move my mouse on certain webpages. It has to be some kind of interference or fault. For example, I've just started testing this (or seeing it, rather). I visit Kotaku, or...

Power Supply is Clicking and Grinding

Hi Guys! I have a question about what might be causing this, but I'll give you a few details first. First off, this will be my fourth Corsair power supply four months. The first I purchased as an upgrade in reliability (or so I thought) from a BP430. I purchased a CX500, but as soon as I got...

Oh! I was just looking around again, and I found this gem. It's a current model from Dell. It's not an Ultrasharp, but it is a professional monitor with swivel! http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=04&sku=320-9715&baynote_bnrank=1&baynote_irrank=0&~ck=baynoteSearch

Fitting Monitors For a 27" Landscape, and XX" Portrait Setup.

I think I'll probably end up getting a 22"-24" The U2412 and U2312HM are great monitors for the price. I'll have the top flush with the 27", and let the bottom hang a little lower. I'd really like to conserve desk space and have a more modern monitor to be able to double up on later...

Fitting Monitors For a 27" Landscape, and XX" Portrait Setup.

Mainly, I want the height of the 27" to match the width of the smaller monitor, so I can have it in portrait. Like a "PLP Surround" monitor setup, but this would be a "PL" setup. Something like the Dell U1909W would be perfect if it were still readily available. Unfortunately, it looks like I...

Fitting Monitors For a 27" Landscape, and XX" Portrait Setup.

I'm looking at buying two Ultrasharp monitors for my Gaming Rig. I have a 32" 1080p TV, but the pixel density isn't cutting it as a monitor. I'm thinking of having a 27" be my primary monitor. While the GTX660Ti isn't going to be great for powering games in 2k, I'd rather downscale to 1200p in...

Playing Tomb Raider (Reboot) Sets Off Annoying Screeching Alarm in PC.

I have my new TX650 installed. Everything ran fine overnight downloading my Steam games I've purchased during the sale. I'm starting to think I need a new case and some decent SATA III cables. Half of the SATA cables in this build are broken, and this case has nowhere to run anything. So that...

Playing Tomb Raider (Reboot) Sets Off Annoying Screeching Alarm in PC.

I think I'm being punished by the electronic Gods... The Corsair 650TX kicked out on me after a full 3 minutes of use at 4:00am... Unplugged everything, plugged it back in. Made sure I/O from the case was all seated correctly to insure the power switch worked, and plugged it into a different...

Playing Tomb Raider (Reboot) Sets Off Annoying Screeching Alarm in PC.

I literally can't do that. It's so loud I'd go deaf if I got any closer. Since the PSU I just bought has been changed so recently, I returned it. I was at day 28 for my return to Amazon, and I didn't want to risk a lengthy RMA process with Corsair. So I didn't have much time to troubleshoot. I'm...

Playing Tomb Raider (Reboot) Sets Off Annoying Screeching Alarm in PC.

Just to add to the things that would possibly cause this issue... My DVD drive is going ballistic with some weird whining and stuff. I don't know how that could be connected to the issue aside from some weird glitch, but hey. It varies in pitch, but it's the closest sound to the sound that's...

Playing Tomb Raider (Reboot) Sets Off Annoying Screeching Alarm in PC.

My Gaming rig seems to be whining about something, especially while playing Tomb Raider. It is a long high pitched whine coming from somewhere inside the tower after about a minute of gameplay. I thought it was the fire ALARM! (except it was one long beep.) I relaunched the game, and it started...

New Build: ordering within the hour...

Overclocking can cause instability, and one normally wants stability and reliability in a computer for work. Opinions on Lian-Li's PC-Q27 case for new HTPC build?

I know I like to have room to work in my cases. I've worked in a Micro-ATX Lian-Li before, and I have to say I'm really not in love with Lian-Li after the fact. The case is well built and looks great, but building in it and swapping parts is a hassle...

Gaming PC Feedback needed - $1000

Every two to three years I swap my GPU, every four to six I do a chipset upgrade. In between I'll upgrade my peripherals and case as desired. I'd say that GPU will start requiring you to lower settings around the 2-year mark to get good framerates, but that's not something I can say for sure...

ivy or haswell budget gaming nvidia gpu help

I entirely agree with this. A 650Ti would probably be the lowest I'd recommend. He has to compromise somewhere, though. There is a reason higher end components cost more. They provide a better experience and perform better. He can get an ASUS board, but he needs to be willing to extend his...

Gaming PC Feedback needed - $1000

I can be down with a 760 for this build. I just don't want him to get 3-4 years down the road and still expect a card that performs to his current expectation. Unfortunately, we're in a time where what should be branded a $250 GPU is stamped with a $350 sticker. NVidia has rebranded pretty far...
