Very loud. Obnoxious, even.
I got rid of it and got a 780 ti which was very quiet.
Of course I really wanted to try out AMD Mantle so I got rid of that too and bought a Sapphire Tri-X OC 290x.
Unfortunately it is also pretty loud. Mine also has a lot of coil whine. It's too bad prices are...
I have a
3770k @ 4Ghz
Sapphire 290x tri-x OC
16GB RAM
1TB 840 SSD
Windows 8.1
I will report my experience here.
Do you folks think that Mantle will improve 4K performance? I have BF4 @ 150% rendering; everything else maxed. Would be nice to hit 200% without a performance impact :p
Honestly I don't know. I have no idea what happened to it.
I was really careful and I'm very experienced with PCs.
Since it was the holidays I wasn't in the mood to fix it so I sold it as is.
Luckily I only lost ~$80 due to cryptocoin speculators :D
I had a 290x but broke it replacing the heatsink. I wanted to replace it cos it was too loud.
I take "not that loud" to mean that it IS loud but that for some reason you don't mind.
Is your PC in a noisy environment that hides noise?
In case people think I am trolling...
lol nice post OP. I can totally relate to your situation. As others have said a 120 Hz monitor is probably going to be the next step you should look into. They are very nice for games - especially the ones with the light boost. Myself I have the Asus 27 inch 120 Hertz 3d monitor. The 3d effect...
Always look at the bright side of life.
It's pretty clear that this is only a big boost for 60hz monitors.
IMO this tech would have been more useful a few years ago.
It's nice to have but not a killer app for those of us with 120h+ monitors.
Why would anyone prefer 60hz IPS with gsync vs...
I was lucky enough to snag a 290x but then fucked it up when replacing the heatsink. It's selling on ebay now for ~$300. It is clearly marked as damaged... weird times.
I wish I would never have bothered to remove the heatsink.
Can you expound? I can personally say that I have never had an issue with them. Maybe you bought all their duds (due to lack of research on your part) and I bought all their great products after deliberation? :colbert:
whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Yeah, I get it too.
Because of the cooling weather I turned off the AC and opened the windows. Naturally this is not as cold as A/C at full blast so now I get to hear the loud fan, the coil whine -- and now you get to hear ME whine :p
Using EVGA Precision X and a lot of free time (lol) managed to get:
+165 GPU
+425 Mem
I suppose that I can get better results with better cooling.
CPU: i7 940 w/ stock cooler and default clocks (2.93 GHz)
I forget where I read it but a reviewer said evga told him all cards should be able to do +100 GPU; +500 mem -- so that's what I did and stressed test it -- works well!
My funny logic here: I always buy nvidia high end because nvidia fanboys are nerdier which means I can always count on 3rd party apps like nhancer or Nvidia Inspector to supply hidden AA and AF settings :p
I used to OC my CPU only but things got complicated for me with i7 (from Core2Duo, etc) so I gave up and bought a 940 i7 :p
I don't have the time or patience for OC'ing anymore; since I make enough I'd rather spend money to make things work out of the box.
how old are you, ctark?
I ask because often times people give it up when they are young.
It's a lot harder to give it up when you are older and most of your social life revolves around religion -- as mine did. Most of my friends I made @ church.
My decision was an intellectual one. It's funny...
someone must have seen me at the super market last night with a cart full to the brim with groceries...only to leave empty handed cos I left my wallet at home...
Going again today but definitely going to another market XD
meh welcome to my world. Working full time to support my parents since they've been unemployed for 1 year + and can't find work.
If you have vacation time available, it's time to use it.
