Lenovo P51 - Xeon E3-1535M, 64GB ECC, overkill or appropriate?

Hello AnandTech! It’s been a while. I need a laptop for work primarily to run 5-10 android emulators simultaneously. I am currently using a generation old MacBook Pro (i5-5287U, 8GB) that absolutely chugs running 4 instances. Here is a fully-loaded Lenovo P51: Xeon E3-1535M v6 Processor (4...

    coffee vs. caffeine supplements

(Not medical advice) Try taking half a pill (100mg) sublingually. Let it dissolve under your tongue and it should accelerate the absorption process. I can feel the effects of sublingual administration nearly immediately. Usually I'll let some of it dissolve and then swallow the rest for my...

Is it better to separate the days by body part?

It's going to be pretty tough to get big with such a strength deficit. You may be better suited on a strength program for now, like this one. That program has a 100% success rate for the people that do it. Most guys are squatting 255-275 lbs within the first couple months for sets. Although...

    Long term benefits of "supplements"

I didn't read the article, but I would say it is very possible. Part of the benefits of steroid use is that you can recover much quicker. Yes, you still have to do the work, but I'm sure 5-10 years of doing training at a volume you wouldn't normally be able to sustain has lasting benefits...

    Front Squat vs Back Squat

Some people with good form can clean very close or even more than their front squat. I'm not very strong, but I weigh 145 lbs and can clean 170 lbs. My 1 rep max on front squat is 205 lbs. I have some pretty glaring form issues so I have perfect confidence that I could clean 205 lbs if I...

    9th Annual Tax Thread - 2011

The question was at the very end as I was attempting to submit it so I guess it probably was in relation to e-filing. The turbo tax representative had told me that tax returns must be submitted in chronological order. Good to know that it is not the case.

Hobby programmers: Where did you start?

I didn't read the thread, but this is how I started: Around 1999~2000 a friend introduced me to HTML. Shortly after I began investigating how "other" things on websites worked. Dynamic things. This led me to PHP which was then in version 3.x. I started making things and slowly added...

    9th Annual Tax Thread - 2011

I did my taxes for 2010 last year but forgot to send them in. I found them this year as I was preparing my 2011 taxes. I sent my 2010 taxes (I was due for a refund) in on Feb 1st. How long do I need to wait before I can send in my 2011 taxes? I had asked a TurboTax representative because...

Will taking a community college class as college grad affect GPA going to grad school

Do not do this. If they require that you submit all post-secondary level transcripts then you must submit all post-secondary transcripts. Even if you just took 1 gym class at podunk community college. Most programs will use the National Student Clearinghouse to verify enrollment and if you...

I get mine done through my employer, but I know there are training centers that will do it for $40~50. If you need it as a potential job requirement make sure you get the American Heart Association (AHA) version. A lot of employers or schools won't recognize certifications from other...

    Listening to my body . . .

I've been doing a similar program (Starting Strength) and these are my thoughts on this particular issue. With the default programming you lift three days a week. After one workout per week you would get two days of rest. Since this is a beginning strength training program it uses...

    GWestphal's 2012 Fitness Reporting/Accountability Thread

I'm pretty sure the guys at Starting Strength suggest doing no additional cardio unless absolutely necessary while on the program. Recovery is as important as working out and if you're constantly hammering your body you limit gains.

last day in vegas, black or red?

That question has no answer. It could be 1 or 9000 or more. I think you mean how many people do you need in a room for there to be a 50% chance that two of them share the same birthday.

Or you can learn how to play poker and actually be a favorite to win money once you hit a reasonable level of proficiency. Gambling is more fun when you're expected to win money and will do so over the long run. (1/2 NL is not very hard to beat)

Small overdoses of Tylenol can do deadly damage

4 grams per 24 hour period should be considered the upper limit for a healthy adult. Acetaminophen is very hepatotoxic and even more caution should be used in older adults or those with potential liver problems. Impaired excretion could cause toxic levels at lower doses than 4 grams.

    Switching Majors

For most people it is not that simple. Most 18-year-olds do not know their head from their arse. By the way, I am all for the technical school route as a viable option for a lot of people, but I do think the "develop a whole person" methodology of college is valid.

does school someone graduated from matter in the workplace?

Smarter people probably end up going to more name-brand institutions. Therefore in a statistical analysis it may appear that the school made a difference, but one must keep in mind that they likely had smarter people matriculate to begin with.

Anyone here working a 3 day/12 hour shift? What kind of job is it?

12 hour shifts are very common in hospitals (e.g., nursing). Some places do 8 hour shifts but the general consensus is that the extra hand-off report per 24 hour period is worse than fatigue after 8 hours.

Parents being forced to pay kids' college tuition
