GOG Connect - Connect your Steam account & get DRM Free versions

I don't see any downsides to connecting GOG to Steam. Yes, once you add something to GOG, it should stay there forever. The caveat is that there's typically a small window during which you can add certain games. I've added The Witcher 1 and 2 to my account so far, and it was pretty easy to do so.

The Future of PC Gaming Requirements

Thanks for confirming my point. A non-overclocked 2500k averages 45 fps which perfectly matches what my AMD 480 averages. My overclocked 2500k would do even better. 404 rubbish not found.

It looks like CPU can make a big difference in Watch Dog 2 if you're running 1080 SLI: http://www.gamegpu.com/images/stories/Test_GPU/Action/WATCH_DOGS_2/wd2_proz.png The i5-2500k at 3.3 GHz runs it at 53fps minimum at 1080p. The AMD 480 runs it at 45fps...

The Future of PC Gaming Requirements

Source? I seriously doubt that any game would murder my cpu at 1080p 60Hz with an AMD 480. Obviously the CPU would bottleneck a GTX 1080, but that's moot. How is an i7 better than an i5 for gaming? That part of your comment makes me think you don't know what you're talking about. This article...

The Future of PC Gaming Requirements

My i5 2500k at 4.3 GHz is 5 years old and still handles games great. I recently upgraded to an AMD 480 and 16GB of RAM for $275, which should last me another few years. I'll recoup some of that cost from selling my old 7870 and 8GB of RAM.

    Korean Microboard M340CLZ 34" 3440x1440 100Hz FreeSync Curved

I have no idea about the 3rd party through Amazon. As long as the reviews are favorable, I'm hoping to snag a CF791 for $800 - $900 sometime within the next year. I'll probably buy from Amazon since they're supposed to be great about monitor returns for any reason.

Remind me why people don't like Electronic Arts

I don't think the hate was around Origin, although a lot of people still dislike it. The hate involved things like day-one DLC and shutting down servers early to "encourage" people to buy the newest games.

    Radeon RX480

I recommend checking the PCIe cable from your power supply to make sure it's plugged in correctly. Another thing to do would be to download both Heaven and GPU-Z. Run Heaven in a window and GPU-Z next to it where you can monitor temps, voltages, etc. to see if anything is out of the ordinary...

    Gaming chair recommendation

I have two chairs: a recliner and a mesh desk chair. I use my recliner when I play with a controller and my desk chair when using a kb and mouse. It's a bit of a pain switching them, but it's really nice to game in the recliner using a controller.

Which brand of RX 480 do you like best?

There is a point of diminishing returns for overclocking. To reach 1340/2200, I only had to bump up the power limit by 10% while keeping the voltage stock. While this gave me a 6% performance boost over stock clocks, this card was already running at 1288 compared to 1120 MHz of a reference 480...

Which brand of RX 480 do you like best?

I did a little bit of testing with my XFX GTR 480 last night. I let it idle for an hour, and the card was 31° with the fans off. So, I'd say the heatsink is quite impressive. At stock, I think the fan profile is too aggressive. The fans were running at 74% to keep the card at 65° under load. I...

Which brand of RX 480 do you like best?

I just installed an XFX GTR over the weekend. So far, it seems really nice. The 3-year warranty on the card and 5-year warranty on the replaceable fans are big pluses to me. I'll check the temps and try some overclocking tonight.

    Xbox controller

The newest Xbox One S controller is bluetooth. If you have a bluetooth dongle for your PC, then you can it wirelessly without the $20 Microsoft wireless adapter. Edit: I have the original Xbox One controller and have been using it with a micro-USB cable. I'm thinking about picking up the...

Which new Video card do you think offers the best performance per dollar?

I just ordered the XFX 480 card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16814150782 It was $235 using MPGAMER16 code and should be $215 after the mail-in rebate. It should be a really nice upgrade over my 7870.

Which new Video card do you think offers the best performance per dollar?

Thanks! I'm getting a 480 8GB sometime between now and Christmas, and I'm looking to get the best AIB. In response to this thread, I think the 480 8GB gives the best performance per dollar. Technically the 4GB does better in benchmarks per dollar, but some games just won't give the same quality...

Problem with Vizio E32-D1 60 Hz or 120 Hz

AFAIK, the only TVs that will accept a 1080p 120Hz source are 4k TVs, and a lot of them won't do that. rtings is a good resource for this: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-usage/pc-monitor/best Look at the 1080p @ 120Hz column, and you'll see that not many TVs have that option. PCGH Updated their 480 review (4 months later)

I'll second Pcper. I like their frame rating and how they test the power consumption individually from the PCI-express slot and PCI-e power-supply cables. Edit: And the performance improvement over time from AMD is one of the main reasons I'm choosing the 480 over the 1060.

What games have you played recently that you really enjoyed?

I recently bought an XBOX One controller and used that to play Shadow of Mordor and Dark Souls. I enjoyed both games. This forum is aging.. gaming getting old for you too?

I'm 35 with a 7yo and 2yo. I took a big break from gaming after my 7yo was born and didn't really get into it until about a year ago. Now it's my favorite hobby, and I try to get a couple hours in every night after the kids go to bed.

    RAM for gaming

You have a similar system to mine. Honestly the only reason to upgrade to 16GB is because DDR3 is cheap now, and it might not be cheap in a year or two when you might need it. You have to weigh the cost versus the reward. Spend $35 now and risk wasting that money because you might not need 16GB...

Talk me out of buying a LG 34inch Curved Monitor

There's a code (10OFFACER) to get the Acer x34 down to $900. That's $200 more than the LG in your OP. IMO, the Acer is a better buy at $900 than the LG at $700. I'm in the market for a 34" ultrawide for less than $500, so both of those monitors are out of my price range.

Can I complain about how fast PCs are today? I want to upgrade, but 0 reason to:

Same here. My i5-2500k is at 4.3GHz, and there's really no gaming advantage to upgrading the CPU. Any money spent on a CPU would be better spent on a nicer graphics card. I do plan on replacing my 7870 with a 480 in the near future. I plan to keep my i5-2500k another 4-5 years until there's...

    GTX-1070/G-sync v. R9 390/Freesync

Freesync can actually do that now (or something similar to that). It's called LFC (Low Framerate Compensation). It's automatically (but only) available on all Freesync monitors where max refresh is at least 2.5 times min refresh. (PDF Source: http://www.amd.com/Documents/freesync-lfc.pdf)
