Need help re: Virtual Memory popup

Nope and I should have. Instead, I was more concerned about saving all of my open projects / links. Oh, forgot to mention. utorrent was running in the background. Not sure if it was downloading anything though. Would that be a major player in the memory usage arena? Is there any other way...

Need help re: Virtual Memory popup

Was never adventurous in pagefile/virtual memory matters (usually leave it be) so please bear with me. Earlier today, I've been on my work pc doing a research paper. Due to the extensive subject ground I needed to cover, I've had multiple tabs open (around 11) and additional windows as well (8...

Quick question on salvaging a gaming rig

The x3 is already in there for now, since I needed it to check the bios version. Should I go ahead and update the bios before installing (don't want to have to switch back and forth)? http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4000#bios This is the version it's currently on: F3...

Quick question on salvaging a gaming rig

Thanks! Although I'd probably end up convincing him to get an aftermarket cooler.. So, despite being a bulldozer, I wouldn't need a reinstall/update of the mobo chipset drivers or bios, right? The mobo is an 880gm-d2h. Saw that it was a revision 4.0 and that the bios was an f3 (used CPUZ and...

Quick question on salvaging a gaming rig

My cousin said he "overused and fried" his Phenom II (I believe it was the 3.5ghz one) and went ahead and bought replacements. Anyway, he bought 2 alternative choices, much to my dismay... as I would have preferred an Intel mobo/cpu overhaul, since he had the spending power. Yup, he bought 2...

    Upgrading Mobo and need help...

After a slew of random controller errors that happened when I was burning discs and once while I was gaming (1. had to unplug my SATA DVDRW from the board due to a controller error on \Device\CdRom0, which made the system stable again until 2. alternating events of parity error was detected on...

    301.42 WHQL is finally here

Let me know if you spot any bugs as I usually give it a month before I update my drivers. Hope they fixed: - the psod of 296.10 for the gtx 560 - the v-sync stutter problem - the 3D problem (not so familiar with this one since I don't include the 3d option)

    301.42 WHQL is finally here

http://www.legitreviews.com/news/13195/ And since we are on this subject, can someone please send the link on how to properly install a gpu driver... the one that involves more than checking the "clean install" tick box in the Nvidia installer. I think there was also a driver sweeper in there...

    **OFFICIAL** Diablo 3 Thread

I am amused at how WoW, these days, is treated like the metric system for gaming. Swtor: WoW in space Rift: WoW with better graphics GW2: WoW with duck, drop and roll Tera: WoW plus Final Fantasy Oh well, however similar the analogy may be, at least in terms of quality, it is leagues and...

    **OFFICIAL** Diablo 3 Thread

I agree. Was most likely a speed run. There is a price though... you sacrifice those tidbits of stories and lore. Even back in D1, I would read every tome and talk to every character and it enriched my gaming experience as a result.

    **OFFICIAL** Diablo 3 Thread

Sadly, DRM only hurts the paying customer. As for D3, a no achievement, no multiplayer perk true offline mode would've helped ease the server congestion significantly. Sucks to have paid for two copies and not get your money's worth (i.e. the uninterrupted satisfaction of playing)... and...

Recommendations for top quality Nvidia card maker (no EVGA)?

I'll vouch for Inno3d as I have been personally using them since the days of the MX400. The only time I'd switch cards is because of a system upgrade and not parts failure.

Nvidia WHQL Driver for the GTX 560

Does anyone have any idea when the successor to 296.10 gets released? Not really that happy with the current WHQL, mainly due to certain bouts of the PSOD when I am gaming. I'm open to trying the beta drivers but I wouldn't want to do the clean OCD installation twice if the WHQL release is...

Not quite sure which area I should post this in, but since it involved a beep...

I just noticed an unusual thing just a few minutes ago: After I successfully burned some files to a disc (Nero and with an equally successful data verification), I closed the dvd tray to recheck the files in My Computer. As the lid closed and the green light powered up, I heard a faint beep -...

Chkdsk and external hdd with os question

Will chkdsk have any ill-effects on c: if i ran it on an external hard drive containing the same os (xp sp3) and pretty much the same files as the aforementioned main drive? Basically the hdd in the enclosure used to be the former primary hdd of this pc. According to my friend, the volume kept...

Which is the better MicroSD brand and why?

I swear by Sandisk, but, in this case, I'm currently limited to 3 options as they are the only brands that are available in my current area. I'll need it by the weekend, so even expedited shipping is a risk I'm not willing to take. Anyway, the 16gb choices are: - Lexar - Apacer - PQI Thanks!

Swapping out GPUs, what is necessary?

Disabling the onboard in bios and then slapping in the card (and installing the latest drivers) should be enough

    JKDefrag/MyDefrag...

    Planning to get a 1Tb

?? But yeah, the highest I've gone is 500gb and it is the one I have now. I don't really tune in to HDD news (as opposed to CPUs and GPUs) unless I am in the process of getting one. What was it about? A bad batch or premature release (read: buggy)?

    Planning to get a 1Tb

Specifically a Seagate Barracuda internal HDD (as that brand and model has never let me down). Anything I should be look out for? And are there any disadvantages in getting a 1tb as opposed to 2 500gb drives? Also, are 1 tbs more prone to failure than their smaller storage counterparts?

    Chkdsk/Partition Anomaly..

Yeah, I did the chkdsk thing with the 3 phases. The defrag was done after a handful of those (in Windows and during restart). What I didn't do was check for bad sectors. ------------ Did the chkdsk /f /r on all drives. Zero bad sectors. Does that mean I'm in the clear?

    Chkdsk/Partition Anomaly..

Early this morning, as part of my not-so-regular interior cleaning, I decided to open up my PC to blow away some dust and to check if all the fans (PSU, CPU, GPU, Aux) are spinning as they should be. No cables were moved or removed and replaced. The one thing I did new this time was to hook a...

that a psu is stable after running smoothly and without issue for 7+ months? My cousin bought a rig last August with a no-name 650w psu made in China. The reason why he can't go for a Cosair or an Antec was due to budget constraints. Anyway, the aforementioned unit has been powering that GTS...

Saw these errors in the event log and not sure how to address some of them

Thanks! Definitely not an issue now that I've tested it on another laptop. The list after I did a safe mode scan was the same, save for the processor. I'm guessing the reason why the processor driver failed to load for my desktop is due to the upgraded AV (i.e. paid).
