    Question mATX barebone with Displayport

Thanks for that. So there is a chance the 3100G/3200G will work? I got thinking about buying a used Dell as suggested by mxnerd. I presume I can't move its insides to my own HTPC case because of its proprietary form factor?

    Question mATX barebone with Displayport

I actually did consider gutting Dells like the above but wasn't sure what form factor those used. I presumed those are ITX and I'm not sure if I can use the motherboard in a mATX case.

    Question mATX barebone with Displayport

Thanks for your help. My search led me to the same motherboard. I'm deciding on the cheapest CPU (with iGPU) but the supported CPU list seems quite... limited. The 3100G/3200G or even 2000-series CPUs are not supported. I have not been in this game for a while but I thought AM4 sockets are...

    Question mATX barebone with Displayport

I'm happy to go with used (up to 2-3 years old) as long as the motherboard has DP port (rare apparently in the budget sector). Is there a list of such motherboards I can refer to? I'm happy to pick CPU and RAM around the motherboard choice.

    Question mATX barebone with Displayport

Hi all, I'm looking for ideas on CPU+Motherboard+RAM combo to replace the innards of the below existing HTPC: Intel Core i5-760 Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 Asus HD7450 (DVI output to Dell U2709 @1920x1200) Silverstone GD05 Crucial M4 SSD 128GB Corsair VX-450 PSU 4x2GB Kingston DDR3 The PC is...

Question Connecting to Dell U3011 monitor (2560x1600 resolution)

Thanks, all. I've been scratching my head on this as I don't want to spend much money on what is otherwise a mundane process (connecting to a monitor). There are adapters out there but few make it clear if they will do above 1080p resolution. I just got a DP to dual-link DVI cable off for ~$5...

Question Connecting to Dell U3011 monitor (2560x1600 resolution)

HI all, I just got a Gigabye 5600 XT card, which comes with 3 x Displayport 1.4 and 1 x HDMI 2.0b ports. No DVI. I currently connect two devices to the monitor: desktop via dual-link DVI cable and work laptop via Displayport. The sole DP port on the U3011 is taken up by the work laptop...

Cool-running GPU upgrade for HTPC [Advice needed]

Thanks for the suggestion. It does look like a good replacement (significantly low 30w tdp and performs reasonably close to the hd7870). Considering the non gaming use though, is there anything against getting a gt 710? I can buy it for a third of the gt 1030. Cheers!

Cool-running GPU upgrade for HTPC [Advice needed]

Bumping an old thread of mine. The system is still in use but pretty much now only for basic office/web browsing activities. I'm looking to downgrade it to reduce the amount of heat it generates. System is otherwise stable even under a stress test. Current CPU is a i5-760 (scythe shuriken HSF)...

My 5 year old GPU died... anything I can do? I feel cheated.

Doesn't hurt to try contacting either AMD or the store you bought it from. Technically you are well out of the warranty period but who knows if they will replace it for you out of goodwill. On the plus side, current cards around $100-150 easily surpass the HD6870 and without wasting as much...

    GA-H55M-USB3 POST issues

Hi, While troubleshooting this (unplugging amd reinstalling the same components really), the mobo bios eventually recognised an error and reset itself. Now it is booting normally. I haven't used it much since then but I hooe that's the end of it. I have had this computer for about 7 years so...

    GA-H55M-USB3 POST issues

Hi all, I've got a boot issue with my HTPC. It would get stuck (or freeze, I can't tell) at the POST splash screen. It would not respond to any keyboard commands either so I cannot enter the BIOS page. There are no error beeps either. It wouldn't boot from a USB stick either (BIOS is either not...

    Death from working too hard.

The Red Bull overdose (and any other bad habits such as diet) contributed to her death. I once worked with someone with similar habits (long hours, red bulls, irregular meals, cigarettes and no exercise). She lasted about a year in the job before an aneurysm took her at home. I don't know if she...

11yrs later my very first PSU is going strong!!

My HX620 is easily 8 years old now and has seen 3 system upgrades. It's still as whisper quiet as I remember it to be. Here's hoping it will keep going for a few more years.
