I did not realize that the TR 140mm fan had 120mm mounting holes, I'll probably go with that one then as long as it fits. I was trying to stay with a 120mm cooling footprint which is why I ultimately decided against the Rampage IV Formula MB and the TR True 140 heat sink.
I can always use...
Whatever the BIOS has for fan control, I'm sure it will be fine. The Motherboard is an ASUS P9X79 PRO.
The Silverstone case is actually designed for positive air flow so the top fans are designed to be intakes but they are easy enough to switch/swap around if needed so I'm not too concerned...
I was thinking about using one of these:

or maybe one of these:

I think either could be controlled via the ASUS BIOS to start @ 70% and ramp up if needed. I will also have (2) 120mm...
The CPU is an i7-3930K and I guess I probably won't change the stock fan on the VenomousX as long as my temps are good. I was hoping to get 4-4.1 GHz with quiet operation. I just wanted to give myself some extra headroom in the cooling dept. just in case.
I have one of these coolers coming and will try the stock fan it comes with which is identical to the True Spirit 120 but if I decide to change the fan configuration what is the best fan to use on these VenomousX coolers?
Should I be looking at the Silverstone AP-121's or the LEPA Vortex series?
You should be able to see ALL of your drives in the BIOS. Do you have the latest BIOS for your Motherboard? Have you tried another SATA Port or another SATA Cable? I had problems with one of my SATA Ports and even though it would detect drives in the BIOS, they would fail under Windows.
Well, I finally got tired of waiting for the new Intel Drives and picked up a 256GB Samsung 470 for $449 and I'm more than happy. Since I'm still using SATA 3 in an older system and needed at least 250GB, the Samsung will serve nicely as long as it holds up.
I'm not sure why AnandTech hasn't...
I was thinking about using this on Pre-2008 R2/Windows 7 VMs

I just ordered a 256GB Samsung 470 for VMware Workstation testing and I'll be working with some XP Clients and maybe even SBS 2008 (non-R2) and those OS's are not optimized...
I think I've decided to go with the SSD, the VelociRaptors are just too expensive for what you get anymore. If only Anand would do a review of the Samsung 470 with the current firmware revision to see if it improved the "TRIM" support issue that Tech Report found...
Update for the users who wanted to know how it games.
Oblivion - Good
Titan Quest - Good
BAD Company 2 - Ok, but not good enough for me
Painkiller - Ok, but not good enough for me
No Gamma setting on the Monitor was a deal breaker for me and using the Nvidia CP to force...
I have limited physical space in my case so I really can't do a multi-drive RAID setup, that will be in my next build. I'm just looking for raw performance in a single drive. It's really down to the VelociRaptor vs. the SSD. I'm just trying to justify the cost I suppose.
I was hoping...
I'm using VMware workstation for testing purposes so I'll only be working with a 1-2 VM's at a time and I probably won't keep extensive snapshots. I figure I can move unused VM's to my 1TB Data drive so I'm thinking I can make the SSD work but the more input from others the better. I found the...
