I have a Alcatel USB Modem with my KT7-RAID. There's a BIOS option called "Enhanced Chipset Performance," which is set to Disabled by default. If it's disabled, the modem hangs all the time. Enable it, it works always. Both my board and yours use the same chipset...see if that's a BIOS option...
