? This launch is the same as every launch since R300 back in 2002. $500-700, and this falls on the side closer to $500. Not really sure why you expected your made up hopes to come true.
Because it's nVidia's fastest single gpu card, just like this is AMD's fastest, single gpu card.
What does it matter what the reviews compare it to? They can compare it to the 8800 GTX for all they wanted.

My 4870x2 crushes even the latest single gpu cards but gameplay experience is no where as close.
Micro stutter, sli quirks, and frame spikes (more like dips).
FPS isn't the only metric that needs to be measured - the quality and consistency of FPS plays a huge role.
nVidia cards always under perform at launch. Look at Fermi (worst performance per watt in the business), GTX 560 (which required ti variant to be competitive), etc..
