Thanks all, I was thinking about replacing the motherboard but since its customized and I can't find much info or get support about it I wanted some affirmation that I can run with 512 mb for just a little while (I'd rather have gotten a new barebone with processor if I needed the 1 gig.)
Say for the next one or two years just to be able to play most games moderately well.
512 mb or maybe 1 gb?
I have RDRAM by the way, if that makes any difference.
The processor I'm running is 2.4 Ghz but I'm not sure how to check the other aspects of it. I've asked Dell about the power supply and the guy didn't seem to know anything about the machines as he was just reading some information off of the papers.
I'm trying to avoid moving everything over to...
The motherboard is $159 plus $8 shipping and I think its comparable to an Asus P4C800 which is about $160 as well since both contain 4 slots for RAM, but I'm not sure.
My desire for a new motherboard is because I only have 256 mb of RAM and its RDRAM. Even if I buy the motherboard from Dell I'd...
Hmm, maybe I misunderstood, but are you sure it'd be difficult to take the motherboard from a Dell Dimension 8300 and place it inside a Dell Dimension 8250? The cases are the same. I'm not sure anyone will want to buy a desktop that uses RDRAM though :(
Yeah, I know, bad move on my part going for Dell but I didn't know any better back then.
I can order a Dell motherboard from Dell themselves but I'm curious if it would work I'm not even sure if it'll be compatible with their power supply which I also hear is customized.
I know I'm going to...
Thanks for the vote of confidence :)
I've been doing some looking around and for some reason this Celeron M 1.4 Ghz has 1mb of L2 cache in the tech specs at Sony  Thinking this might certainly be a typo or mistake, I find this on Anandtech...
I've read that, its just that he brought up Pentium 4 and I don't remember any comparisons to P4. I'm also trying to get some second opinions on whether or not its worth saving $300.
I'm looking at the Sony Vaio A series and I'm thinking of picking the Celeron M 1.4 to save $300 over the Pentium M 1.5. Battery life isn't a big deal I'm usually plugged in, benchmarks are probably good enough for the price difference, but I know nothing about heat issues it may have though...
