Bingo! That did the trick!!! Thanks a lot. Didnt have to do that on my last PC which was a AthlonXP 2500+ which I built in 2003. A lot changes in 4 years:D
I assembled a new computer based off the following specs
Intel Core2 Duo E6600
Gigabyte P35
G-skill DDR2 800 2GB
eVGA Geforce 8800 GTS 320MB
Corsair HP620 PSU
Tuniq 120 Heatsink
LIteON DVD drive
Western Digital HDD 500G SATA
Ares Raidmax Mid-tower ATX

CPU validation cycles are much longer. Usually a year from tapeout to production, not to mention the amount of trouble it would take to ramp these parts.
K8L will not be up against Conroe. K8L will square off against Penryn, which is Conroe 45nm shrink with more cache and faster clocks. The fight will be tight.
FX-60 is good enough for now if you can afford it. But if you can wait for 2 months, Conroe 6600 is a really good deal as it offers near-FX like performance for around $300-400, plus you will have good mobos like RD600 or Nforce 5xx SLI which offer crossfire or sli.

Dont have too much expectations on AMD for now. Low expectations is...
I believe K8L was nothing but just a name used by Intel internally to denote next-gen AMD processors. Somehow this info was leaked to the Inquirer, and here today we have all kinds of rumours about a K8L.
The Conroe parts will surely be competitive with AMD, whether they beat their performance or not is probably not important. If they do, then I hope AMD doesnt bring out a product as tasteless as was the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition, when the Athlon 64 came out.
At that time, I think Intel just...
