Getting Old Files to New Computer

Haven't tried copying folders to the new machine, would that make a difference? The old OS was XP and the new one is Vista. And I haven't figured out how to show hidden files on Vista. Thanks for the suggestions, I hope to get this fixed soon

Getting Old Files to New Computer

So I had an old Dell Inspiron 5100 whose power supply crapped out on me. I was about to buy a new machine anyway, so I did. But now I want to get all the old files off of my laptop, which no longer powers up. So I bought this: a Adaptec IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter. So I took the hard drive out...

    Power Source/Video Card Question

Oops, I guess I had no idea I was linking to a 1GB card. Anyway, if I maxed out my budget, here is what I would come to: Studio Mini-Tower Intel® Core? 2 Quad processor Q9650 (12MB L2, 3.00GHz, 1333FSB) RMQ965H [224-1778] Operating System Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium...

    New Desktop

Dell's site is a nightmare: you have to click on desktops, then the middle option under Studio (Studio Desktop), then the second from left to right and then config from there.

    Power Source/Video Card Question

@Schmide Whoa, one gig of memory on that card? Sweet. But again, not to make a total fool of myself (maybe it's too late for that), the specification tab on that very page you linked to says it requires a 400W power supply. Will my 350W Dell explode if I try to install that card in there?

    Power Source/Video Card Question

Thanks Slugbait! Maybe it would pay off to just order the card from them and pay the extra $30 or whatever to make sure it's hooked up right and works, no?

    Power Source/Video Card Question

The reason I ask is because this card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?Item=N82E16814130440) has a system requirement of 400W. A few others do too so I got scared off from buying the system without the card and then buying the card separately and installing it myself to save some money. So...

    Power Source/Video Card Question

So I?m building a PC at Dell (with a 25% off coupon) and the build I?ve got right now (Studio Desktop) has a 350W power source. Now, my question is about the graphic card that I?m going to put in the system. The plan was to build it with no card and then go and buy a GeForce 9800GT for...

    New Desktop

I went back to the configuration for this machine (at dell.com) and changed the video card to the GeForce 9800 GT. Granted, they charge me 150 for the card, but I'm assuming that they've done something to the power to make it work? What gives?

    New Desktop

I just noticed that the video card shows it requires a power wattage over and above what dell studios churn out. Is this gonna be a problem?

Where to get a decent prebuilt gaming PC

JonnyDough: Total newbie here but I noticed that the video card and system you recommended don't seem to be compatible in the power dept. The card says it requires a minimum of 400W and the system shows its 300W. Will that work? I ask because a system I'm looking at is also 350W and the card...

    Upgrade RAM or Buy New?

Yeah I made sure that it's compatible with a couple different sites, but 4allememory has one of those handy little widgets where you punch in your make and model and they show you exactly what module you need. THen I double checked it with dell.com. So I'm thinking I agree with reloading XP...

    New Desktop

So I need to replace my desktop, which is over 9 years old and can't do a whole lot. I'm going to use it for basic internet stuff like email, web use, some photoshop stuff, etc. But I also want to play the occasional game on it, like Fallout 3 and such. I found a pretty good deal on Dell...

    Upgrade RAM or Buy New?

Thanks for the tips! I think I'm going to buy the RAM ($34 at 4allmemory.com) and I finished running Smart Defrag too. Will that take care of the registry issues or should I get a program dedicated to cleaning up registry problems (like Auslogics Registry Defrag)? Trying to do it without...
