Confirmed - i9 9900k will have soldered IHS, no more toothpaste TIM

I guess this goes for X299 Skylake-X Refresh too. On UK PC Parts Picker 7980XE is surprisingly out of stock for almost all the retailers and price has gone up too. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/8cdFf7/intel-core-i9-7980xe-26ghz-18-core-processor-bx80673i97980x This probably indicates the...

How about embargo for X299 SKL-X Refresh (Basin Falls Refresh) ? Does it have same embargo date as 28 core and 9900k ?

Intel Shows Off 28 Core, 56 Thread Core-X HEDT Processor For Enthusiasts, In Market Q4 ’18

Yeah this is what I am thinking too. They can use all three LCC, HCC and XCC dies on the socket 3647. Iirc they already have a quad core xeon on 3647. Edit: Xeon Platinum 8156 quad core on 3647.

Intel Shows Off 28 Core, 56 Thread Core-X HEDT Processor For Enthusiasts, In Market Q4 ’18

Cascade Lake-X is 3647 as shown today. Unless intel splits the Cascade Lake-X into both 2066 & 3647 then I don't think Skylake-X on 2066 would get any further refreshes or successor on the X299 platform.

Intel Shows Off 28 Core, 56 Thread Core-X HEDT Processor For Enthusiasts, In Market Q4 ’18

With the introduction of this 28 core cpu does this mean its the end of the line for x299 and there won't be any further refreshes/releases on the current 2066 platform ?

Intel's LCC on HEDT Should Be Dead

Yeah I think the prospect of 7nm 24 core zen 2 threadripper in 2019 has definitely spooked intel and given their current troubles with 10nm it would not be surprising if intel goes all out on hedt too utilising socket 3647 and releasing 28 core hedt flagship chip to try to maintain performance lead.

Intel's LCC on HEDT Should Be Dead

    Intel confirms Z390 & X399 chipsets

SX suffix next to X399 stands for Skylake-X cpus only. Does this mean we can drop in these cpus in X399 motherboards aswell ? I wonder where does Cascade Lake-X fit into this development.

[Gartner] Q1 PC Sales down 1.4%

This is exactly what I did. I bought 7980XE to last me at least 10-15 years.

Coffeelake thread, benchmarks, reviews, input, everything.

Yeah. Skylake-X was released in Q2 2017 and now we are almost through Q4 2017. So thats already 3 quarters gone and 3 more left before Cascade Lake-X appears. The timespan between Skylake-X and Cascade Lake-X is much shorter than between Haswell-E and Broadwell-E.

Who's buying Skylake-X? (You may now change your vote)

Can you manually disable cores on the 18 core part? I didn't know that.
