NEC 3520A - Max speed option of 4x - Why?

I'm using 1Click DVD Copy, Nero 6 Ultra, and Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6.

NEC 3520A - Max speed option of 4x - Why?

I just installed my new drive and the max speed I can choose when running any of my burning applications is 4x. I am using Samsung Pleomax 16x DVD+R media. Any help would be much appreciated.
