Be aware that IF you want to use them, they are of the correct height.. i burned an XP to flames using a shim that was 1 tiny bit higher than my core... like 1 mm or something.
I use Aston, but thats also a complete shell replacement for windows. I like it becuase its faster and cleaner than the default Explorer.exe

Smilin i thank you forever !! ;) i just had this exact same problem on my windows machine and i couldn't figure out for the life of me how to fix this.
Now it's booting again !! i'm still missing some configuration stuff but at least i didn't loose a whole 200GB disk !

Any card that does DX9 also does DX8.. OpenGL implementation is also a 'standard' on current video cards.
Nvidia cards have the better OpenGL implementation and ATI cards have a better DX implementation (according to many)

I just installed the VGA Silencer rev.3 as follows:
Start computer
Play DOOM3 or any other intensive video game for half an hour
Turn computer off
Then the heatsink will come of like it is just stickie butter..
