I did an easy transfer from xp to 7 and this icon appeared, there was no such icon on my xp front page. There was, once upon a time a file by that name that the icon is a shortcut to, but that file was deleted before the easy transfer took place. In other words, the file no longer exist in xp...

    Orphaned Icon

I have an orphaned Icon on my front page that refuses to go away. It is a shortcut to a file that no longer exists, so it can't be moved , deleted or hidden because it needs that file. The computer here runs Win7 pro and Win xp on a dual boot set-up and that stupid Icon somehow appeared...

    Formatting a HDD

Thanks, mechBgone. I found an easy solution. I installed the HDD in my external USB enclosure, where I was able to format the drive without any complaints from the operating system. Then I wiped the drive with 'Eraser' without problems. WernerB

Well, the cable from New Egg arrived on Friday, 1/19 via ups 3 day service and it works flawlessly. I disected the defective cable and found that when they put the heatshrink over those ferrite sleeves, (those fat lumps at each cable end) they partially melted the cable at on end. I t was not...

    DVI problems

For once, customer service really seems to have worked. I may wind up with two replacement cables. After some initial hesitation, New Egg appearantly thought better of it and has already shipped a replacement cable. In the meantime, I complained to Sceptre and they informed me they are...

    DVI problems

How does it "turn out to be a bad DVI cable?" Probably poorly assembled, the bandwidth required is in the Gigabyte range and it does not take much to screw the whole thing up. wb

    DVI problems

I have a Sapphire AGP X1300 256M that has VGA and DVI outputs. It is rated at 1680 x 1050 60 Hz. The monitor is Scepter X22WG LCD which has a native resolution of 1680 x 1050, 60 Hz also and DVI and VGA inputs as well. As long as I use VGA, everything works nomally, but DVI has major...
