The main difference is that the turion is more energy efficient, meaning longer battery life and less heat. But besides the energy savings, the athlon 64 x2 and the turion 64 x2 are similiar.
If you can't get yours to overclock, I would first try lowering the HTT to 3x, bumping the vcore to 1.5v or 1.55v. Then finally try lowering the memory to 133. Right now my setup is stable at 10x250 also...
I am using the Biostar bios, and used Award's winflash to do so. I am using an Arctic cooling freezer pro 64, and get about 40c idle. I haven't tested for stability, which I think will be at 2.5ghz...
Since you mentioned that it is an old system, it really depends on what she uses this computer for. If she basically surfs the web and check's her email, I doubt that she'll notice. If she is a gamer (plays Doom 3 or HL2 etc.), then there might be a perceivable difference. But I am guessing...
Wow $10 price drop within a day. I guess with the new rev. E coming out, prices will begin to drop even further. To bad the price of the 3200 doesn't drop as often as the 3000.
