Sorry i didn't pick up on this shortcoming. I don't have any use for two moniter outputs however so its something i wouldnt have noticed in any event. I'll add this info to the main post.
At least we know why the card is so cheap in any event. Its actually reassuring in some ways since...
Eek, its not reformating in and of itself its making sure i dont' delete anything of value, and then getting all that i saved to reinstall correctly -_-. Its not the video card at least! as reinstalled my older card and its doing just as poorly. So any more suggestions now that i know its not...
thx for the help but ive already tried reinstalling drivers as well as changing most settings.
See i didn't change anything for the video card (except for the o/c) i only adjusted one games' settings - and then the card tanked. Ive checked AA/Ansiptropic ect, but they're all off. Im not...
This is a repost from rage3d since the tech support forum there seems dead.
I got in on the newegg.com deal and was suprised with my cards performance. Everything ran fine - UT demo, Serious Sam demo, Il-2 Sturmovik, ect.. all the 3d RTS games i tried worked fine as well.
Now although i had...
I'm just chiming in again to say it is indeed rated at 250/275 w/3.3 ns ram. In fact, if im not mistaken, this ram is actually faster than that available on retail cards.
There is a baffling array of different 8500 cards available, each with different clock and memory speeds. Many (if not...
According to TomsHardware the 64mb and 128mb cards perform virtually identical to one another. Performance has improved i think with latest drivers (if Sharky's more recent article is any indication).
Tom's Hardware VGA charts
n/m heh late night posts are slow on the uptake - these 128mb...
I just received my shiny new Radeon 8500 LE from newegg, that apparently (perhaps because its from a newer production batch) is clocked at the modest 250 mhz core but has excellent quality memory at the asynchronous (and incidentally, retail speed) of 275. So this card is virtually comperable...
These i guess are the 'potential' vcard improvements, as from Tomshardware
Testbed: AMD Athlon 2000+XP
(ill take 10% off Radeon score because of my LE version for comparison)
% max gain is gain potential unattenuated by my slower cpu (bottleneck)
Aquanox 1024x768 32bit
8500LE: 47.2
old LE...
Thanks for all the suggestions!
BTW: you can get a 1800xp at newegg (actually about 117 after shipping i think).
Hmmm, this is really a tough one for me. My SiS 735 mobo chipset is XP compatable; i have a 365 enermax ps and a great fan, so no limitations there...
A cpu upgrade will last...
Here's what i've got right now (relavent to the question):
Duron 950 (non-Morgan)
RADEON LE (OCed to 164)
Swiftech MCX370 fan
256mb 2100 DDR
ECS K7S5A mobo
I don't really use the comp for much else that is cpu limited other than games. I have some statistical proggies for biology research...
Several years ago i thought about getting a second job at Best Buy as a hardware tech for a few months to build up my cash reserves. Suprisingly, (and im not making this up) their job performance criteria for tech repair and service is by how many "saves" you make in a week - ie., how many...
I didn't want to let the cat out of the bag...just in case, you know ^^
But there is an 8500 LE card at new egg listed in the ATI section for 108$, that WAS (but apparently not now) clocked at (and this makes no sense) 250/275? So i checked on pricewatch and many newer low end LE's are...
I ordered a 700nf that should be in today. Uses Mitsubishi Diamatron (their version of Trititron i think) tubes. Aperture Grill. Has won a few 'best buys' from monthly mags. Ill report on it as soon as its up and running.
Thx AluminumStudios looking into that moniter after i finish typing this response...
Thx for the recommendation on the 753ds; has anyone heard or seen the Samsung 700(nf?) model? Its supposedly an aperature grill rather than shadow mask and is around 200$.
