Question 'Ampere'/Next-gen gaming uarch speculation thread

Have you ever looked at a lower quality image of anything and 'fixed' it visually in your mind? Or look at re-masters of old video's that are made to look better than the original recording. Feed an algorithm enough content and it can guess what a lower quality image should have looked like...

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

How am I mixing them up?

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

Correct, but in the real world (at least in The Netherlands, and I'm really someone who tries to fight this behavior FYI) people will rather pay a little extra for nVidia, because "nVidia" and they also often see EVGA as "the holy grail" and they can pre-order a custom EVGA GTX 1060 model for...

Geforce GTX 1060 Thread: faster than RX 480, 120W, $249

Before editing it included a "(surprised?)", but that got lost after making a small addition. Sorry :).

In most countries here in "Western" Europe (read: UK/NL/BE/DE/FR) you can get a non-FE/non-reference GTX 1060 for < 300 euros with stock, while finding a RX480 with a reference cooler for the same price is possible, non-reference isn't. Prices are pretty much equal, going from 259 to 339 if you...

    Newegg has 7970s in stock

I run a heavier setup than you with the same PSU, you will be fine (I use at least 100 Watts more).

    AMD goes fermi

I wouldn't count too much on a HD7790 to become an impressive card. The whole sad thing with the prices is that you usually got 30 to 50% more FPS for the same, or maybe 10-20% more, money. Now you get ~40% more FPS (over the 6970) for 60% more money.

More like a 4890 of each series (rather a bad one from the higher tier). Kinda like the 5830 most likely.

This is what should be obvious to everyone now and why I think it's a bit meh to repeat it every 5th post in this thread. It was obvious before anyone posted it (as most people can read reviews and figure it out on their own) and now that it's repeated a lot I'd personally be happy to see...

    AMD Radeon 7000-Series 28nm (Southern Islands) | 7990 7970 7870 7770 | Discussion

It would be nice to see a real competition at the absolutely high-end (with big die-sizes). My point was (though that was probably already clear :P) that the 7970 is not aimed at that market and comparing a future card that matches the above description with the 7970 doesn't make sense. As a...

For all the people using "Yeah, the 7970 sucks as nVidia will release a faster high-end in the future!", please think what you are saying. Just look at the past, heck AnandTech has had entire articles dedicated to it already. AMD is NOT aiming at keeping the #1 single GPU spot, so none really...
