I too bought it from dell on boxing week (the 40gb model). Hopefully, it's not a bad batch from dell, how reliable is your information regarding bad lens during the Christmas surge? Btw, I believe Dell has a one or two month warranty.

As said, sometimes the cd keys are stored in the regestry...however, they may be encrypted. Depending on what program/game you're trying to get the cd key for, you may find a program that directly tells you what cd key is used.
