Replaced 9500 GS with 9800 GT, now only getting intermittent fans

I figured out the issue. The IPIBL-LB (Benicia) mobo has an SPI header that requires a jumper on pins 1-2 (visible here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01324212). I had to reshuffle the RAM around because I don't think the technician replaced them in...

Replaced 9500 GS with 9800 GT, now only getting intermittent fans

Yeah, we tried it with a 450W PSU and had the same problem, and even after re-installing the 9500 GS were having the same issue.

Replaced 9500 GS with 9800 GT, now only getting intermittent fans

I took the PC to a technician, and we tried a bunch of different things, including a new PSU, to the same effect. He thinks it might be a mobo problem. When we opened the case, we did find a loose jumper, and tried it on the only available BIOS (or CMOS, not sure) position, which didn't make...

Replaced 9500 GS with 9800 GT, now only getting intermittent fans

Checked the RAM, and it's solid. I'm not sure about the PSU, but will check it out. Any other suggestions?

Replaced 9500 GS with 9800 GT, now only getting intermittent fans

I believe that it is. I ran the 9800 GT on another rig with the same wattage, but I'm not sure about the voltage on the new PSU's rails. In any case, it still didn't work when I re-installed the original video card.

Replaced 9500 GS with 9800 GT, now only getting intermittent fans

Hi, I'm trying to replace the stock 9500 GS on an HP Pavilion Elite m9425f with a working 9800 GT. I uninstalled the original drivers, powered down the machine, and replaced the card. Now, powering up the PC only gets the fans to spin for a few seconds intermittently, without any boot...

Which one of these is causing stuttering?

Update: thanks all for your help and suggestions. I upgraded the GPU to a 9800GT and added 1 gig of RAM, and everything seems to be working a lot more smoothly. I think the 7950GT fan wasn't working properly, and was overheating. Thanks again for your help!

Which one of these is causing stuttering?

Update: neither cores seem to go over 70% load. The GPU temp is steady around 82C, but I'm still getting 6-10 fps in some cases, and it doesn't seem to be a latency issue either. I'm thinking it's maybe RAM? Strangely, I'm getting a 2-3 fps bump on Ultra settings, better than anything lower!

    Geforce 7950GT Overheating?

Great, thanks very much. I did re-apply thermal paste when I cleaned the fans out.

    Geforce 7950GT Overheating?

I know, it's crazy! I did clean the GPU of dust. It could be the fan controls. If it is the gpu, is the VF900-Cu a good choice for the cooler, or can you recommend a good PCI express x16 GPU that'll work with a 400W Fortron PSU? Thank you!

Which one of these is causing stuttering?

Yes, it didn't seem to stutter when I first got the pc, but as you've mentioned, that was a while ago. I'm running at 1680x1050, so maybe that's too high of a resolution? I don't notice the HD light going crazy when it starts stuttering, and haven't looked at if the cores are at 100&#37...

Which one of these is causing stuttering?

Hi, I'm getting a bit of stuttering and slowdown in some current- and previous-generation games, like The Witcher, Aion, WoW, LotRO and Rift Beta. I'm running a Compaq Presario SR1750NX, and have upgraded the processor to an Athlon 64 X2 4400+, the RAM to 2 GB, and the GPU to a Geforce...
